It’s not like I just hate all villains I really like some of them like Joker, Dexter(anti hero), etc etc but in gone girl I absolutely hate that woman so according to me the fact that she got away with everything was a HORRIBLE ending.

To clear up the ending, Amy inseminated herself with Nick's semen that was on file at a fertility clinic that they went to before. She knew this would make him stay. Everyone loved her and there was no evidence against her so Nick leaving after she heroically killed her abductor and making her way home despite being abused and assaulted would make him look horrible. He didn't care about this, but he wouldn't be able to obtain custody because she was sane to everyone else and women always get the children. He couldn't trust a sociopath alone with a child so he had to stay for the child. THE END (And all you can think of is what horrible things could happen. Now that's an ending)

If you see a dog you'll surely see him interact with the cast or intervene in some way, if there's a ferret it's used to determine just how quirky a character is, if there's a pet like a spider or snake it's used to scare someone at some point...but cats? They just are.

People who think this movie is "pro-feminism" because the wife is a murderous psychopath who overpowers her husband are stupid. This movie isn't "pro-feminism", but it's not "anti-feminism" either. Feminism is not the main theme of the movie, marriage is. But for those who are really asking for it, there is a brief but nice undertone of feminism in Amy's "cool girl" speech (the one about women feeling pressured to match the male's ideal). But no, let's be clear about this, Amy Dunn is absolutely fucking not a feminist icon. She is an evil, manipulative crazy ass character from a book.

***** We need masculanism so that we can define our gender and its relation to society on our own terms, but people like you just want to go back to the same definition of the "masculine" from 4000 years ago. You have no interest in solving our problems, so you are just attacking people who are completely irrelevant to those problems to feel more like a man.

Calling the kettle black there buddy. And no, its reading a variety of comments and also from reading the people who comment back to you agreeing with your mentality. But again, keep beating on low hanging fruit and buzzwords that have nothing to do with your life or the issue of men.
@maxben3391
@maxben3391 9 жыл бұрын
Using buzzwords as if they are a meaningful? Judging people by their reaction to stimuli including things, ideas, and people is really basic in the way that humans and other animals interact with one another. But no, lets use a phrase that seems meaningful like "guilt by association". And no, thats not the definition of bigot. You are redefining a word to throw it around as an insult because of its emotional weight. Again, a common rhetorical device. Its kind of sad really. Aaaaand scene. We can play this game again if you want. Either way, reality hasn't changed and who you are hasn't changed.

As a feminist, I don't see it as pro-feminism, but I don't see it as anti-feminism either. Undoubtedly, there's going to be people who think that feminists are cheering Amy's actions, but the ones who do are fucking morons. Amy is a psychopath, clear and simple. But she's also a very brilliant, entertaining antagonist. Was her husband an idiot? Yes. Did he deserve to go to jail and be put through the ringer? Fuck no. Was it fun watching Amy completely manipulate everyone around her? Most definitely. And no, I'm not saying it was fun because I like seeing douchey men killed (a divorce would've sufficed, but hey, it's a movie). I liked watching her go nuts the same way I liked watching the Joker go nuts in The Dark Knight, or Jake Gyllenhaal act like a creepy creeper in Nightcrawler - it's just entertaining. I like watching or reading about twisted characters. Then again, me being a feminist really doesn't have anything to do with that. I really like how this kind of psychopath was a girl in this situation. We see people like Patrick Bateman doing twisted things to women in American Psycho because that does happen in real life, yet we don't see many female antagonists like Amy Dunne in movies, despite the fact that there are plenty of women out there that have murdered their husbands for things like cheating and whatnot. This is just what I get from this movie: people are capable of terrible, horrible things. This is one of those times where I think this doesn't really have anything to do with feminism, at least, not on the surface. I can understand why some might see the film as misogynistic. I personally didn't, but that's just how I interpreted it. I haven't read the book nor do I really know what Gillian Flynn was really trying to say with this book/movie (if anything at all). I just liked that there was a female villain for once. And it's an interesting take on how people and the media view big 'missing person' cases like this, despite not knowing all the sides to the story. I quite liked how they were clearly making a dig at Nancy Grace the entire movie (I cannot stand that woman). tl;dr I am a feminist who loved this movie and does not want to be like Amy Dunne, nor do I think anybody should aspire to be. Because she's nuts. And the people praising her actions, believe it or not, have nothing to do with feminism either, they're just fucking morons. But then, there are people out there who think Charles Manson and Ted Bundy are the bees knees, so there ya go.

Gone Girl was certainly interesting. I felt like it was good about not following too many stereotypes when it came to socio/psycho-pathology as well as abuse. Amy was like the female version of Hannibal Lecter, she just didn't eat people, she has the same cool, collected, calculating socio-pathology. You feel sorry for her b/c of her messed up childhood (forever being used and compared to a fictional character, Amazing Amy, by her parents, the public; that's gonna mess with a person's mind while growing up no matter what). As well as feeling sorry for her being stuck with an a-hole of a husband. Then you also feel sorry for the a-hole husband b/c of everything she puts him through. It was interesting seeing the man being the (sort-of) victim instead of yet another woman being portrayed as a an abused victim for once. I think it opens the doors for society to accept the fact that men and women can BOTH be abusers, BOTH can be monsters, but BOTH also have the potential to be good human beings. Female characters can be strong feminists and still be the bad guy. She's smart, cunning, not willing to lie down and take her husband's crap and basically does something about it. It's the way she went about fixing her problems that are questionable and immoral. Overall, the character of Amy Dunne was AMAZINGLY written and certainly a great opportunity for an actress to play her. Despite the leaps women have made in the last 50 years, there are still very few compelling female characters out there that we get to see come to life in books/movies when compared to the vast amount of complex male characters. Writers/Hollywood tends to focus a lot on the growth of male characters and often use the female characters as props. So, in terms of the overall film being feminist, I would argue that the idea of the compelling main female character being so completely complex is what would make it be considered feminist, not necessarily in terms of what that female character actually does. Also, the direct definition of a feminist is "equality between men and women." It has nothing to do with hating men, ruling the world, it's just the EQUALITY of men and women and Gone Girl does stay true to that. The feel sorry for both characters while at the same time, there are moments where both character make you hate them.

+lore albano It's funny, in the book it's actually difficult to figure out who to root for. Part I makes Nick look as guilty as possible-you're reading from his POV, but it STILL sounds like he killed her, and interspersed with Amy's diary entries, you spend Part I believing Nick is guilty and wanting him to get caught. Then Part II turns the entire narrative on its head by revealing that Amy's alive, and that she's trying to frame Nick for her murder. There's no winning with that narrative because you really find yourself hating BOTH characters, and not wanting either to win. It's an uncomfortable book to read but at the same time it's really brilliant-it kinda forces you to reevaluate your entire stance (which is at least partially built on personal prejudices) halfway through and face the truth, this isn't a story about an abuser and his victim, this is a story about two monsters trying their best to control, manipulate, and abuse each other worse than the other.

Nice to see adultery being taken seriously, though. Does more harm in society than heroin. It was once a crime, but laws are made by dudes who like to commit adultery, so suddenly it wasn't illegal anymore. Odd to see Ben Affleck attached to the project, though, as such a well-known cheater himself.

No one actually thinks yanderes are "okay", they just make for really compelling stories. Same with slasher movies, we "root" for the bad guy even though of course we don't want them to actually exist. This movie is basically a psychological version of the slasher movie, in an odd way. The unlikable college protagonists do something stupid (they go into the woods at night, Nick cheats on his hot wife) and a psychopath goes after them for it, and in the end, you could say they were about 80% successful and at least caused what's left of the protagonists to suffer greatly. Just like in those movies, Nick managed to get some small victories, and in the end lives in a very fucked up version of the status quo rather than being stuck in prison for a murder he didn't commit.

ImperiustheGreat I've never read the book, nor seen the movie. I just know my mom loved it. Anyhow, from this video I've gathered it's her own blood. What you have to remember is a person can't come up with a plan like that, and execute it so perfectly without time to figure everything out. She probably drew large amounts of blood from herself at one time and stored it somewhere until she had enough. She was able to drive afterwards because she didn't draw too much blood then and there? I don't really know. Just a guess from what I've seen, which isn't much.

James Bond I saw the movie and as I understood she couldn't figure out how to store her blood without it clotting so she needed it fresh, that's why she had limited window of opportunity before her husban came back AND she needed enough of it to make the police think she was murdered there. So eighter the movie didn't explain this well enough or didn't consider that bloodloss causes difficulty in driving an automobile safely/without drawing attention. Either way that's a sin. Ding.

Seeing as how Honest Trailers is a satirical series meant to pick apart movies and show what's bad about them for humor purposes, I'd say never decide whether or not to watch a movie by watching their videos. Unless it's because you don't like that genre of movie or something.

This movie is possibly my favourite movie of 2014 and if you look at movie reviewers 'Top 10 movies of 2014' videos you will see it a lot of others as well. Don't decide on what movies to watch based on these videos. These are meant to pick any movie apart and as you should know every movie has problems and you should not let them stop you from watching movies.

I just rewatched it with a straight couple. While the girl was rooting for her, the guy was super scared and they argued because she liked the ending and he didn't. For the first time I watched it with my boyfriend, we both genuinely wanted to be Amy and walk around the house with the cool-girl monologue.

It is so weird to see so many women on tumblr and elsewhere try and idealize this woman or say she had any kind of point, completely missing the author's point that people will do anything to defend a woman no matter how crazy she is if she's pretty, weepy, and pretty enough.

SlyMagma Um, maybe because I've seen people who watch the movie talk about Amy like she had valid points about men you fucking idiot. But thanks for proving how reactionary and idiotic feminists are. You somehow couldn't even process a very simple sentence.

Ahhh...this movie (well, the book too) kinda invites it. Between Amy's psychopathic monologues shredding apart women's roles in relationships and the the detailed, bleak and twisted view this story takes on men and women as a whole, it's hard to NOT talk about the story without discussing gender roles.
