Fun fact; "love actually" didn't have the budget to pay for a third of the more famous actors in it. However, when the producer told several of the actors this they said that they would do it for a tenth of their usual price (keep in mind that they had far more profitable alternatives at the time). So, point is; these seasoned, famous, frankly good, actors thought that this script and these characters where so good they were willing to do this for the pleasure of the roles and the beauty of the film.

TomValedro I think I would have enough experience with this subject, since my circle of friends is about 50/50 male and female and there are a bunch of us exceptions to your silly rule. Only one of the girls is your stereotypical girly girl, and many of the boys are quite feminine. Also, I study industrial surface treatment, and the class is divided pretty much 50/50, with a few "girly" girls, macho girls, feminine boys and macho boys as well. And that is a very crude and simple way to put it, since within the group of macho guys there are so many different types of people. Looks like people are individual and different, huh? What a wild concept.

TomValedro So it's in my biology to like pink :DD How is that in any way an evolutionary trait that ensures the continuation of human race? Please, you have to get better than that to convince me to like pink and barbies. And how has it been this way for centuries? Give me some evidence that all women, for hundreds of years, have only liked pink, cause that's an absurd claim if I've ever seen one. You're hilarious dude :D Thanks for the laughs...

Hey yo people, who thinks Honest Trailers should do Alien/Aliens?
@reveilles
@reveilles 9 жыл бұрын
I usually LOVE Honest Trailers, but unfortunately this one got most of its laughs from being DIShonest. :( Grant's character doesn't fire his employee for being fat or distractingly hot; he falls in love with her instead, and refuses to let her weight define her. To protect her, he tries to get her reassigned to a different position that doesn't involve her personally interacting with him, but his chief of staff misunderstands his request and fires her instead. Likewise, Firth's character doesn't seduce his subordinate; he sends her off safe and sound, despite being attracted to her. Lincoln's whole plot is about how he *doesn't* hit on his best friend's wife, avoiding her as much as possible despite him being strongly attracted to her. Three variations on being responsible about love, and how to love someone asexually by putting their needs above your own desires. Neeson's plot is actually not creepy at all, and just because a boy has fallen in love with a girl who has his dead mother's name does not automatically mean he's wrong to do it. This plot is about the other side of the coin: the loss of love through death, and then finding a way towards hope again. Heartbreak in equal parts with cheerfulness. Yes, the Thompson/Rickman plot is depressing, but it's intentionally so and his character is an idiot. I like that the movie isn't all rose-colored-glasses about love, unlike most rom-coms. Similarly, I like that Linney's character doesn't just indulge in random, sudden sex with her hot coworker, but instead is self-sacrificially loving her disabled brother. Another kind of love that's not romantic love. There was something deeply broken with her and her coworker: they weren't talking and building any true intimacy at all. They might have had a chance if they'd gotten to know one another in a meaningful way, not just suddenly try to have sex, but that's not what they chose to do. Yes, Freeman is awkward, but his whole plotline turned the usual assumptions about the progression of a romance on its head and he charmed our socks off with his totally unassuming portrayal. Plus, they weren't making porn, they were body doubles. The Nighy plot is hilarious and awesome and shows yet another kind of love: either platonic bromance or a gay relationship (it's unclear on which). The Marshall plot was again hilarious, but in an unbelievable-fantasy sort of way: yet again, a different kind of love. I think the movie holds together surprisingly well, is funny and sexy and convicting and poignant and British throughout, and at the end, it draws the viewer's individual experiences of love into the movie's own story, ending with a vast array of images of non-famous people loving each other in a myriad of everyday ways. It's an excellent movie. There are clichés, but they're executed well. And what are clichés but compelling memes?

I agree with a lot of what you said - even though I don't remember being a big fan of this movie, it was more nuanced and less gooey than a lot of rom-coms - but the "premarital sex" phrase threw me off a bit. You just mean her having sex before she had a deep enough connection with him, right?

Not really Alemanio. If you think that, you don't really look into the actual characters he portrays. John Watson used to be a soldier and is addicted to danger and adrenaline. While Bilbo Baggins did have that affinity for adventure, he was never a soldier and never suffered PTSD. His character in The World's End was a hard working businessman who was never a fighter and favored a stress free life. MF plays all these roles perfectly despite the differences in character.

I liked it, too, quite a lot. Normally I loathe romantic comedies (they're predictable, cheesy, and not that funny) but this one got a bunch of laughs out of me. Yeah, sure it was predictable, but I still loved it. The humour was actually clever, and I would get lost if I had to list every good actor in it. Also, Emma Thompson was better in this than she was as Trewlany, if you ask me.

You know Honest Trailers does satire right? All of the movies they do these videos aren't actually bad. Some of them are, but it often comes down to personal taste, nitpicking and other criteria. It's totally fine to like something if someone else doesn't. And cinema sins themselves stated some of the movies they parody are actually their favourites. :)
