I didnt mind the arkana stuff it's all a metaphor for cole finding him self. For them all finding themselves really. Its daft but its internally consistent.

I think the way the explain the arcana thing has other implications. If each arcana has a type of power it would make sense why some of them have the powers they have, like Kano got laser powers, then Sonia killed him, and took them. It's possible that the powers would have manifested differently if Kano, Kabal, and Jax hadn't been injured. So maybe Cole loses his mark later, or gets killed in one of the other movies. If Jax's mark grew him new arms, just so he could do the clap, it might have just been a pair of gauntlets/gloves originally, so maybe Cole's will go to Striker, or him regrowing the majority of a body will create Cyrax.

The quick cuts were probably someone's idea of making the film echo the game. No one cares or will probably ever get the message, but any good video game movie ironically does not duplicate the video game, it adapts it. You are making a movie not a game. I feel like an old man yelling to the kids, "get off my lawn". BTW anyone have a Vigo moment (Ghostbusters 2 from 1989) with the @21:05 "death is only another portal" line?

Yes, the quick cuts in the action was basssssically my only real complaint. I can happily accept every other problem in the directing, writing, acting, editing, etc. but having the fight scenes be filled with cut scenes was disappointing. If the action had great directing and editing but the rest of the movie was the same, I'd have LOVED it, lol.

People who focus on Cole being irrelevant need to be a bit more forgiving I think. I mean I remember Mortal Kombat Conquest with Siro and Taja, and how really nothing in that series had any relevance whatsoever.

I loved the movie, but cole is really the weak link and i never thought he was going to become scorpion, thats dumb, this movie really was a mix of ideas to see what to throw out in the next movies, arcanas link the real world with mortal kombat, cause how can you explain powers other than gods powers, i think it should have been anyone fighting gets it, the marking is okay but could be removed

I hate putting "arcana" into everything because kids will recognize it's some League stuff and watch it. It's not how it works, kids will bow out of this movie within 3 minutes. The actors were good, but they had horrible scripts to work with. I like the concept of the new guy and him not being from MK kanon, but god damn is the script bad. Give each character some introductions, give them some back story, let the new kid explore them one by one. Great concept, ruined by a horrible script and shitty writing.

It's apparently very cheap, made for like 50-60 million dollars. Between that and the fact that moviegoing is not what it used to be (and also the simultaneous HBO Max release), a worldwide gross of 100-150 million is not bad.
