I'm not a Pokemon fan by any stretch, but I still paid money to see this for the simple fact that it's a video game movie that actually gets it right. I have zero idea how well it holds up to the Detective Pikachu game, but I appreciate that they worked very closely with the makers of the video game franchise to get it as close as possible.

I'm not ashame to say that I enjoyed this movie way more than I though I would. Ryan was perfect for the part. My niece to this day is traumatized by Dito. And I agree with some of the comments below, please do a "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" honest trailer that movie is a staple in my collection

@@ScionStorm1 Live action adaptations and video game movies have massively lowered our expectations. Almost all of them suck. The fact that they were not only able to adapt a decent spin-off game fairly well, but emote and animate the pokemon in the movie so well makes anyone who's tired of Hollywood's nonsense happy. Honestly, I don't think we're gonna get a good live adaptation of a main series pokemon game. I can't imagine anyone in Hollywood being interested in putting time and effort into making a good story out of the games. So this movie was WELL above my expectations.

I went to the movie with two friends who love Pokémon, and one of them brought his girlfriend. She knew nothing about Pokémon. She loved the movie, and a month later, we watched several of the animated Pokémon movies with her. I mean, do you think Marvel fans were overly impressed with the original Iron Man? It takes a while to introduce everything. Would have loved to see an Ash cameo though.

I just watched the movie, and I enjoyed it. I'm impressed they actually wrapped up the ending by having Tim's dad return, because the end of the video game was so open-ended and rather disappointing.

See now I feel guilty for loving the hell out of this movie. It wasn't just the Pokémon, the premise kept me interested and it was just hammy enough to keep that pokémon charm. Also it's been said that Pikachu's human voice was for our benefit. Tim heard what everyone else did, Ikue Otani's timeless "Pika pika!", he just understood the meaning. Even if he had heard the voice of his father, how the hell was he supposed to recognize it after a decade of no verbal contact?

One prime example of improving upon the source material however si Jurassic park. I was actually surprised, I went in with low expectations, really low. But I admired all the work they put into the movie. And it feels like they actually did some research instead of googling popular Pokemon and quick descriptions. I still feel the cgi could've used more work, but at the end of the day, it's a movie I could watch anytime I'm bored.

I enjoyed the movie and i enjoyd this vid, but that´s the one part I have to disagree.. Only detective in this pikachu was the hat...SUCH a huge missed opportunity to have an actual DETECTIVE pikachu, there is actual potential in that idea that could be really entertaining, but they desided to just play the cute-card and slap in the rest :(
