Man 0 all Js ST wrath of khan was supposed to be the true death of Spock. Nimoy was sick of his typecast, and wanted to sever ties with his vulcan character. He requested him to be killed. However, he changed his mind, and thus, the search for spock was born. Into Darkness was just a movie that meshed "old" with "new". So, they kept the same "death scene" just rearranged who it was.

I would highly recommend you to watch Star Trek Deep Space Nine. The first season, like most Star Trek series, is more or less "expandable" but DS9 is definitely one of the best Star Trek shows ever made.

For an Honest Trailer here's an honest oppinion: I don't know the Star Trek Culture because I am not a hardcore fan of the series. I didn't know who was Khan prior at the viewing of the movie, and appart from the original series, all I know of Star Trek are these two last movies. I found them pretty well done and very entertaining. Conclusion: These last two movies were not meant for hardcore fans of the franchise, but for the opposite, people that know very little or nothing of the series. If you are a hardcore fan of Star Trek, and if you are reading this, get the message: all the new Star Trek movies will dissapoint you. THEY ARE NOT MEANT FOR YOU.

Also the original was made for an audience in the sixties. We're not in that time any more, even the original fans will have changed in that time, they're just different. If people want they original they can see the original, it won't change but these films give a new perspective due to applying modern film production to the series. They add to the franchise. Also, I love TOS but my main issue with it is that there wasn't as much focus on character back then as there is now. I understand it's a style of the times but I love character based stories and I think these films have a little more of them than the original so I may prefer them but I'll need to rewatch the movies first, I finished the series recently. :)

will This movie was awesome...if I ignore the little nagging voice telling me it's taking a giant dump all over the original Star Trek. I mean, if they had made this a straight reboot with no reference to the original universe (a la BSG), that voice would go away, but this is still technically the same universe as the show, just a different branch of the timeline.

Let's all hope Steven Spielberg and Abrams don't collaborate for a movie. One insists on flashing as many spotlights at the camera as possible and the other obviously has a fetish for lens flares. To get all the way through such a movie, theaters would actually have to turn the room lighting up as opposed to dimming, otherwise risk eye damage.

Bullshit!, these so called "Star Trek fans" wouldn't have been happy with anything short of the entire original cast playing their roles in the new movies. People that are fans of any original series would swear on the lives of their children that the original stuff is always better. I'm like that with some of my childhood entertainment (i.e. TV shows, games, movies), but you should know what you're getting into before you watch the movie. It's a whole new generation, in a new era of cinema. If you're not going to make the effort of going into the theater with a open mind, DON'T WATCH IT!

I actually kind of liked the J.J. Reboot. It was kind of dumb and tacky but so was the source material. I thought Into Darkness was a terrible movie though. Not just a terrible Star Trek movie, but a terrible movie in general. I don't mention this to bash the film, just to point out that some people who like trek in general and liked the first film still managed to hate the second.
