"The Little Mermaid": Hans Christian Andersen's classic tale is a 180 from the Disney film. Some parts align. She does see the prince from afar in his ship, and she does rescue him from drowning and fall in love with him. He doesn't see her. She does visit the sea witch who takes her tongue in exchange for legs (and she does do it because the little mermaid has an amazing voice). The deal is the same: The mermaid can only remain a human if she finds true love's kiss and the prince falls in love with and marries her. However, the penalty in the movie is only that Ariel will turn back into a mermaid if she fails. In the story, she will DIE if she fails. Also, while the prince remains a main motivator, the mermaid in the story is also motivated because humans have eternal souls, and mermaids don't. The Disney movie leaves out that the penalty the mermaid pays for having legs: every single step she takes will feel like she is walking on sharp shards of glass. At first, it seems like the plan is working, but then the prince ends up marrying another, a woman he THINKS is the person who saved him (the mermaid can't exactly tell him the truth, since she can't talk). She is told that if she KILLS the prince, then she can simply turn back into a mermaid and doesn't have to die. She just can't do it, though. She throws herself into the sea, and turns into sea foam. How's that for a happy ending?

Sally - in the original Hans Christian Anderson story the little mermaids tale is split in two to make her legs. She's in constant pain and bleeding from this. It's really messed up.

Don't forget the lovely part where just physically walking feels like knives are digging into the mermaid's feet and they bleed all over the place. Also, her sisters offer up their hair to the sea witch to get the knife that will kill Eric. Also, the mermaid doesn't really want the prince's love because she loves him originally, but so she can gain a soul and not turn into sea foam when she dies. Yay fairy tales. :)

ACTUALLY the tale is that the little mermaids sisters cut off their magical hair and sell it to the sea witch she gives them a magic dagger. The little mermaid has to kill the prince and have his blood drip on her feet to get her fins back. She doesn't do it and turns into sea foam. She however is given a soul in the end (mermaids have no souls) because she died as a human.

If you don't wanna know the true story then never read the hunchback of notre dame. Quasimodo is deaf from ringing the bells and is always the king of fools. He was brought down by Frolo every year and humiliated to remind him of how cruel people are. Also the story of Tarzan is an interesting one. His real name was John Clayton. Yes, Clayton the bad guy was related to Tarzan. Sabor the leapard was never in the story, it was another ape that Tarzan defeated. Kurchak never died from a gun shot, Tarzan killed him. Hunters came to the jungle and began rou ding up apes. When Tarzan fought the hunters off, the apes began to follow Tarzan more than Kurchak so, as a result, Kurchak went after Tarzan in a turf battle that Tarzan didn't want to have and ended up killing him. Pinochio was the worst. He was told he had to devour the flesh of a real boy to become one... yeah that's a kid you want runnin' around lol
