Maybe because I had higher expectations being a Pacific Rim fan, but Tomb Raider was a much more serviceable movie than Uprising. Uprising took all of the cool human-POV slow-but-powerful aspects of the original combat and decided to take the Transformers route where giant things move at hyperspeed. Killed the best part of the franchise.

Really hoped that Uprising would have progressed the Kaiju storyline at least a little. What we got was what we already knew from the original. If a third movie did come out, this movie could be completely skipped and none would be the wiser.

Definetly agree with you. My only real issues with tomb raider was that the plot was a tad generic and lara croft was pretty much a punching bag for 60% of the movie

Don't get me wrong I loved that feel of the mechs slow but powerful punches n movement from the first ....but if I could pilot say gypsy danger or saber Athena it'd be a no brainer for me ...they are like gundams ...just get better with next generations ... also the best part of any of these two awesome movies is that they have kaiju fighting mechs.... that's all I'll ever need as a nerd 😍

Tbh the entire prolog could have been its own movie, with the two protagonists being survivors of Trespassers attack growing up to become the first pilots to ride a jaeger and save the day. I saw Tomb Raider a few days after my own father died - I'd already booked the tickets, and I badly wanted the distraction. It wasn't much of a distraction, but watching Lara get to not believe her father was dead, find out where he might be, jet off to go find him, and get the goodbye the rest of the world had tried to deny her - well, it's been a few years now, but I still like the thought of doing those things - the film will always be special to me.

Pacific Rim 2 was the most angry I felt at a film this year. They killed off Mako in the first 30 minutes, they made Newt the villain, and none of the new cast was likable. Absolutely hated it.

The Kaiju can't be led anywhere. Their target is Mt. Fuji. If the Jaegers leave, the Kaiju will just continue toward their target. The only way to divert them is by force, which is what they used.

asuitandty That doesn't mean anything. Plenty of directors follow the money. I prefered his aesthetic much more. And also because I can have my own opinion and preferences, regardless of what others think.

asuitandty nope, he stated back in 2016 he wanted to do prequel and he did send his script to legendary pictures. The story about how that idris elba joining as yaeger and saving miko from kaiju. Legendary pictures already have idea they want which is sequel so they reject it. The title for del toro script is pacific rim maelstrom. They hire daredevil director to do script and story based on what they want. This is why this movie basically retcon many thing from previous movie for example in this movie they stated that young yaeger is easier to do mind drift but this thing never said from first movie. Yaeger robot suddenly move swiftly although the land and building should break or have heavy impact everytime the move has lost. Kaiju actually learn from what kill them but this movie didn't do that. They also retcon all previous character except 2 scientist.
