Fun Fact: Apparently, the scene where Charlie notices the newspapers about Willy Wonka's success Dr. Wonka framed is based on an event in Tim Burton's life where he met with his mother after years of estrangement. Turns out while he left home at 15 due to constant fights over his decisions, she had posters of his films framed and even kept her ticket stubs from when she went to see them.

Honestly, I would argue that Wonka’s experiences with the Candy Cartel and the inn probably helped wisen him up. Like, his sense of whimsy never left and he knows there’s good people in the world, but seeing the level that some people went to screw others over for their own benefit probably helped make him get a little more cynical of certain individuals (plus, you know, people sending spies to his factory to steal his recipes probably didn’t help).

They somehow managed to PERFECTLY capture the wholesome whimsy and slight darkness of a Roald Dahl novel. Getting the Paddington director to do this movie was fucking genius. Also it's hilarious that the movie people expected would ruin the Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp movies ended up feeling closer to the original novel than both of them combined.

I found the film highly enjoyable. I liked that they made him a boat person and the fact he couldn’t read is true to life for kids who grew up on the waterways in the old days (and the mum not passing down the skills she has is also true to life).
