oooh, she brought up the Netflix personal algorithm. Let's all pour one out for the thousands of 1-to-5-star feedback reviews that we each gave Netflix over the years before they were thrown out in order to have an undeniably worse thumbsup/thumbsdown system. The recommendation *used* to be amazing. Legit one of the worst decisions I've seen of a company this type.

I was at a film fest a few years ago and saw a movie called Wheelman that had already been picked up for “distribution” by Netflix; i.e., it was a Netflix Studios release. 20 or 30 years ago, a movie like Wheelman (nothing too great, but a competent action movie) would have made $15 million in a quiet theatrical run and then had a long second life as a VHS rental (and, years later, been revived as a Vinegar Syndrome or Arrow Video blu-ray). But in the streaming era, it got bought and then it just completely vanished into the Netflix catalog. I bet it’s been watched by a few hundred people, tops, and it has no future. Higher-profile streaming movies like The Vast of Night, The Platform, Okja, I Lost My Body, Wonderstruck, The Meyerowitz Stories and The Ballad of Buster Scruggs would all have made a much stronger impact if they’d been distributed in some other way. Even though these movies are theoretically available forever, in reality each was barely available even for a week and is lost now. Even the doomed awards candidates from 2020 (Mank, etc.) barely existed in the culture and are as forgotten today as a random TV movie of the week from 1974 is. But I understand why directors and producers would throw their work into the abyss like that. Arguably, the movies are finished at this point, and there are few other options. (I don’t consider Black Panther, Black Adam, and Strange World actual movies; they’re trashy theme-park rides created in computers. For anything more interesting than a theme-park ride, you have to look on TV and the streaming services-and the quality of new work on those platforms is getting sharply worse as the HBO/Peak Television era fades.)

I watched Wheelman. It was incredible for a Netflix movie. It sits between Drive and Transporter. Thrilling little movie.

I disagree, Netflix made it possible for niche movies to be discovered and watched, also over a longer timespan, giving the makers more reach than they could if they had shown the movies in a few small arthouse cinemas. And cinema itself is largely a thing of the past and that isn't going to change. Though your last sentence really reveals you to be a cultural snob, so I don't expect you to understand the current age of media.

I'd really like to know how easy it is to get a show on the platform. I have a few ideas.

Even when your film gets on Netflix you will still need to drive traffic.
@AlienShomoe Жыл бұрын
That why you have to have money for marketing or if you have a relationship with someone who knows a big actor that would like to be apart of it that’ll drive traffic itself but you’d need a really good script

Before I start watching, let me guess... Netflix has narrative guidelines you must insert. Either that or they only accept that which follows their political checkboxes. Amazon following Netflix (after making headway as a better alternative more like original Netflix) was a huge mistake. Look at the money wasted on Wheel of time, rings of power, and the others I can't muster any interest in watching after reading the description.

To any scriptwriter out there, how do you know if your comedy storyline is too far-fetched or not? Thanks
@genepsullivan4 ай бұрын
Can you hire someone to pitch a script, or help you sell it? It's a true Story, About Evel Knievel's Body Guard. Gene could be famous for several things that have been written in a Hollywood movie. He was a motorcycle jumper, heavy weight boxer & more. Gene's father is the subject of THE ODD COUPLE movie. His real Father is Ernie Nevers. Who has fame in 3 Professional Sports. He invented the hook shot; Pitched to Babe Ruth; Saved the NFL & has the oldest 4 NFL records. Ernie was a first inductee to the NFL Hall of Fame. George Clooney made a movie; Leatherheads about him. Gene's GREATEST privilege is about the lives he has saved, even famous people. Just by an inspired thought that came into his head... instead of using his fists. His fists that were going to fight Ali, Joe Frazier, George Formen, and the heavy weights of His day, before Rocky Marciano died in a plane crash. He even had a thought come into his head when he invented the first Skido, and did a stunt in San Francisco. He sent the blue prints to Honda and Kawasaki with no patent. But that voice in his head said "undo your helmet strap", and it kept his head on his body to respond. The movie script starts with his famed WW2 Command Bomber Pilot mother, buzzing him and his brother in a Crop Dusting Plane, bombing them with toilet paper rolls. Gene was the longest touring motorcycle jumper in the world, flying a bike through flames of fire, when there were only 5 motorcycle stuntmen in the world. He's highly regarded in the stunt world. You can watch him speaking to a King, or doing Evel Kneivels Funeral on our channel. Thanks for your advice. Ceci
