i wasnt sure what to expect, i thought shed go the full 90s rnb vibe cause the snippet we got a few months back "Nasty" is full 90s rnb but i guess with the single she wanted to go a little more mainstream friendly and give us a taste of whats to come. I was definitely expecting a little bit more considering her comeback singles have been so good and so explosive, for example: “Dangerous Woman”, “No Tears Left To Cry”, and “Thank U, Next”. Her lead singles are usually so explosive! I feel like ‘Positions’ is great and has a catchiness to it, but deserves to be listen more times. It’s a grower and to be honest, the song has something attractive to it that makes me listen to it more then once! And to be honest I’m proud for Ariana because she is showing growth and that she wants people to listen to her music more than one time. To fully experience the music🙋‍♂️✨ I think in a couple of hours or days I will be in love with ‘Positions’ and if some of the albums leaks are true... then the album probably won’t disappoint! :)

I agree, I wish she wouldn’t play it so safe. She’s so talented and her newer albums sound really similar, I wish she’d write about things that aren’t love, breakups, and uh the other thing. I get that she’s a pop star, but she has real talent and I think if she wrote about deeper and more interesting topics, or even just telling a story through a song (like In hey there Delilah by plain white T’s, sure it’s about love but it tells a story of a boy who’s in love with a girl and she lives in New York City, still trying to finish school. It’s not like he’s saying “ I am love you kiss me blah blah blah” where it’s about love but it’s not about the feeling, rather the physical manifestation of it. “Kiss me blah blah blah” anyone could write a song like that, but the thing is with her talent she could write such beautiful and poetic love songs or really any kind of song, and people would go CRAZY! A new Sound that isn’t r&b/80’s sounding or pure pop or ballads? Even better!

honest, i in many ways agree with what you’ve said. ariana has grown so much over these past few years. i wasn’t really a fan until i heard my everything. ari has genuinely saved my life with her music. with her releasing dw as a lead single we expected her to kind of drop off the charts when sweetener but then she released ntltc and giaw. every single she’s released has been EXTREMELY powerful. positions was definitely a first for her career, the song wasn’t just about sex and the parts that were, weren’t over the top. positions was a wonderful song but the video really made it complete.

I feel like Positions is the Folklore of Ariana where, although it's not a surprise album, it still came out in short notice. Like Folklore, I don't expect this album to be more impactful than her last album but rather a documentation of her life right now. It would be very difficult to top the Thank you Next / Sweetner era, and with only 1 single I don't think that is the goal of this album. I feel like this album will be a palette cleanser for ag7.

I’ve honestly never been the hugest fan of her but you can’t deny that when you watch interviews about her you feel just how much shes in love with what she’s doing. I’ve never really noticed it in any other artists but her, and the fact that she be in the studio all the time just proves it. I surely do miss her Victorious years but I love that she’s evolving more and more. It just goes to show music is not for everyone, you have to really have a passion and love for it, and that way your viewers can see it through your artistry.

i agree on the underwhelming part, i felt it too i haven't listened to positions a lot of times (less than 10 times), but i feel like it'll grow more when we'll have the entire album overall i like it and i cannot wait to hear the entire album because i love her few r&b tracks and it's amazing she has "changed" her direction once again edit: the last part of the song is amazing to me, with all those vocals... i cannot wait for the acapella edits to be published

I can't even consider myself a Ariana Grande fan as I've only just casually started listening to her. I actually like the song it's got the old school feel with some lovely vocal arrangements in it and she has proven on multiple occasions she back it up live. This will be the first time I'm tuning into a Ariana G era so look forward to what else she has to present.

i completely agree it’s a grower. but it DOES grow on you. it’s not as strong as her past singles but this song really showcases her raw vocal talent and harmonies with less techno music. sometimes you just wanna vibe to chill music , and not want every song to slap you in the face. that being said, it’s a good song, not her best, but it’s definitely catchy , and i think she’s gonna serve with her new album.

Honestly, I’m glad she didn’t come out swinging with the first single for this album. I feel like the first release being more toned down for a more sexually charged album makes the most sense. It’s doing exactly what it should represent: foreplay. It’s teasing us, warming us up for what is about to be something amazing and memorable. Ari played this very smart, and I think it’s going to really pay off.

When Ariana said from her recent q&a session that 34+35 was supposed to be the lead single and it was also what her team and recording company wanted her to make as the lead single but Ariana kept hesitating because positions is really challenging 34+35 to be the lead single (as what she said), I was angry and happy. Angry because her team and recording company really wanted just to make money by making a commercial, trendy, and radio-friendly song as the lead single, though I'm not saying that positions isn't a radio-friendly song, 34+35 is just not the best lead single to follow up the line up of her previous lead singles. And people are saying that positions were the weakest lead singles of hers, so what if 34+35 was the lead single? that'll be a disaster. Happy because she kept positions as the lead single. It may not the best lead single of hers but it's definitely the best song to be the lead single on the position album. I'm also thinking if pov was the lead single? But I also wanted that song to be the last single because it's just a perfect song to end the position album/era.
