A note on Halfbreed: the first edition did not include 1-2 pages that depict a scene of sexual assult inflicted upon Campbell. The page was ripped out without Campbell's consent. Two women approached Campbell years later, telling her they would find the page. She said that they were all burned. These women found the page in the archives with a red x across on the page. Campbell added that page to this new edition. She is incredible.

Clarice Lispector is indeed AMAZING and one of the best Brazilian authors, but I have to say that we have produced a lot of incredible authors! As a good Brazilian, I feel the need to recommend two: Machado de Assis, which is arguably our most famous author. One of his best books is The Posthumous Memoirs of Bras Cubas - which got a new translation last month and the Amazon copies sold out in a day. Also, if you want to reignite your love for contemporary, there's Vitor Martins! He has three books published here, and they're all fluffy, happy, queer rom-coms that I think you'd enjoy! He's making his international debut this year with Here The Whole Time (also, the cover is stunningly beautiful!)

Ariel-- you mention that you're a mixed-race person, so you're allowed to say 'halfbreed'. I totally adore that the majority of your picks highlight or include Aboriginal people and cultures. I'm from Australia and am heavily focused on Aboriginal Australia (in fact, it's my degree!) and we usually compare Aboriginal Australia/ns to an international Indigenous community. I always always always pick Canada, as I find many of the First Nations Canadians as absolute #goals (/'aspirational') for reconciliation here in Australia (it's an absolute disaster). I've been watching you since roughly 2014, so forgive me if you've said it before and I didn't pick it up -- are you Aboriginal Canadian? I totally understand if you wish to keep this private -- I absolutely adore that you are promoting Aboriginal businesses and stories. It's something I wish to do on my own channel, but in the context where I'm from.

Books read by the author are my favourite audiobooks I also read The Chrysalids in grade nine and I forgot to return it so I got a notice three years later that they wouldn't let me graduate until I did

For memoirs I definitely do prefer for the audiobooks to be read by the authors. When it comes to fiction, unless the author has performing experience, then I don't think they should read their own books. I've encountered some awful audiobooks read by the authors where they don't do enough with their voice to differentiate between different characters or add any emotion to the scenes. It can make it too confusing to try and listen to the book because I can't tell which character is talking or it's just a monotone droning on.

During quarantine I've bought so many books from my local bookshop, bless curb side pickup and their website. To celebrate my would-have-been graduation day I bought 'The Plague' and 'My Year of Rest and Relaxation', had been interested in both for a while though still most definitely an #ArielMadeMeReadIt moment, and both were fantastic! Ecstatic that you picked up some Indigenous books, sadly many people in Canada aren't educated on Aboriginal history as we should be and it's important to continue to learn.

LISTEN TO THE SPLIT TOOTH AUDIOBOOK!! That listen was my FAVORITE last year. Throat singing included as a part of the experience. Absolutely adored that book.

Actually Heartstopper is in grey-scale. The teal is the American edition. For anyone who wants to read it, it started as a webcomic and you can read it on Tumblr, Tapas and Webtoon
