Discretionary trading isn't just 'trading with the gut' though right? There are skills involved. Discretionary trading is like taking the pitch to bat and score the runs yourself. Systematic trading is like delegating all the scoring to a batting machine instead. Great initiative btw.

The best part about systematic trading is that it removes all the emotions from Trading. 95% people lose money in trading because they let their emotions affect their trading. Its very difficult for a new trader to control emotions while doing discretionary trading.

At 8:04, what Tanmay said is the prime example of the gambler's fallacy. Let's assume u make money by getting a head after tossing a coin. The win rate is 50%. Then one day u get 5 consecutive tails. This doesn't increase the probability of getting head next time. The odds are still 50%.

A coin is not the right analogy for it , cuz head/tails both have 50% probability to come. Take the example of a roulette wheel, where a skilled trader is the casino and the people bidding are noob traders, the casino has 51% chance of winning, that means out of say 100 trades, there are 51 profitable trades. The actual effect of probability comes out if the sample space of events is big enough, at say 60% winning probability ,you won't win 6 trades out of every 10 trades you make, this is too small,but yeah you would win more than 50 trades out of every 100 trades you make. This is for sure, or more than 550 trades every 1000 trades. Again this doesn't tell, how often you will you win, you may face all 40-45 losses first and then 55-60 wins or whatever. You just can't deny data and maths.

@@tanishqrathore7285 You are partially correct. You are correct that if the sample size is large enough you are winning 50% times in my eg and 51% in the casinos example. But the problem also is it takes a large sample space. You don't have infinite money. You will also agree that it might happen that you will loose all 490 trades consecutively and will 510 one after another. My point is for those 490 trades are you financially strong enough to sustain that. In my opinion a retail trader isn't. Whereas a HNI or a hedge or mutual funds might sustain that and live through it.

@@rohankavari8612 Well what you stated is like the worst possible case, I haven't seen someone have more than a string of 10-12 red trades, moreover you don't risk more than 2-3% of your capital/trade and if you cut your losses quickly, you won't be in money crunches.Also a lot of it depends on position sizing,you take very big positions, risk a lot of capital/trade surely you'll make a ton of money if you are right, but it won't take more than 5-6 trades to wipe off you from the market. So in the end,if you don't have unrealistic expectations from the market, you would be profitable.
