My first handgun, and one that I refuse to sell, is a P10F. Interestingly, when I went to buy a handgun, I told the counter person that I was new to having handguns (I had had a .22 rifle as a teen, but it got lost in one or another of several moves), that I wanted a solid first pistol that could be a home defense piece as well as a "learn to shoot" gun. I got spoiled, frankly, and the majority of the handguns I've bought since then have been CZ products.

Walther's PDP is a great gun, it's my EDC IMO, home defense is a little different. You don't know where you'll be if/when someone breaks in so I have three in my home. I have my bedside G19, an EP9 and PSA's Dagger and they ALL run Glock's 9mm mags. This ensures that, no matter where I am, I have access to something that will run the same magazine/ammo as the next location in my home

The Walther PDP is legit. It's a great all in one package and the ergonomics is very comfortable for many beginners. It also forces beginners to work on their grip mechanics and recoil control for better shooting overall in the long run. Yeah their are other guns out there that will be easier to shoot in the beginning (like a Glock), but many times beginners don't work enough on their techniques leading to bad habits. I personally started with a Sig P320 and I was glad that forced me to learn how to shoot properly because I can shoot most guns flat. I didn't even realize people thought the Walther PDP was snappy after I shot it until I read comments online. My aunt never shot a gun in her life before she moved to America from New Zealand. She's been training almost exclusively on my dad's 4.5" Walther PDP Full size. She's tried other guns afterwards, but still goes back to the PDP and can shoot it extremely flat. If a 5'3 skinny 41 year old lady can do it, I think anyone out there can do it if they train. also the trigger guard is huge so if you're up north doing work around your yard or property with gloved hands, I found that the PDP makes it really easy to get a gloved finger in.

I have several Walthers, first being a first gen P99 from interarms, then P22s to train my daughter and her friends and lastly a first gen PPS I carried for years, When Canik came out I moved that way because they basically copied the Walthers (Patent ended) but with a better trigger and better value. I own a TP9Elite and the TP9SFX you show here and just picked up a Mete MC9 to possibly replace the PPS. Fantastic and reliable guns, and the Caniks are a great budget alternative.

One gun I would like to see you talk about is the Springfield XD. 16 years ago, several friends and I went through a police reserve course. Quite a few had XD pistols. They shot hundreds of rounds through those guns with no problems. One guy even used steel cased ammo that shot just fine. Years later after determining my Taurus PT45 was a piece of crap, I sold it and bought a XD45. It was a little over $400 which was way cheaper than a Glock or M&P. Springfield had a promotion going at the time which they would send 2 free magazines in the mail. The gun comes with a nice case, 2 magazines, a mag holder and a cleaning brush so you get a lot for your money. Mine has been very reliable and very accurate. I am so glad I bought this gun and most likely will never part with it.

I wish I had found your channel, or one like it, 8 years ago. I purchased a Smith & Wesson SD40VE as my first ever handgun. I took it to the range and the one box of ammo I put through it was the last box that has been through it. Too much fun for a beginner. Your content has me planning for a new handgun.
Interestingly, when I went to buy a handgun, I told the counter person that I was new to having handguns (I had had a .22 rifle as a teen, but it got lost in one or another of several moves), that I wanted a solid first pistol that could be a home defense piece as well as a "learn to shoot" gun. I was handed a CZ P10F, and I bought it that day. Mine doesn't have a cut-out for a red dot sight, but I could send the slide to any of several good shops to have that done. I got spoiled, frankly, and the majority of the handguns I've bought since then have been CZ products. Like many new shooters, I was reluctant to carry a striker gun "hot" (meaning with one in the chamber). Whether you carry "hot" is up to you, and I would suggest that you read and learn the pros and cons and make an educated decision for yourself. I eventually bought a CZ P07 and found that I'm more willing to carry "hot" with the double-action/single-action trigger system, and my P07 uses the magazines from the P10F (and P10C), so there's that. But, back to the home defense topic: Because I carry the P07, and practice with it much more than my P10F, I also have a P09 (full-size version of the P07) set up as my primary HD gun (some folks feel it worth having more than one HD gun, in different places--I sincerely hope you don't feel such a need, and hope even more than you never experience such a need).

My wife shoots my guns as well and she mentioned that the pdp would be her favorite if it wasn't so snappy.. So my question is, how can I reduce recoil? I changed the backstraps for her, helped her with her grip and she still says it's snappy... would changing the recoil spring reduce recoil? I know it comes with an 18lb spring from the factory, if I was to reduce it to a 15lb would that possibly reduce recoil? I been researching this subject and I'm getting conflicting information..

Yes. I've got a polymer PDP compact and with the stainless steel guide rod and 15lb spring from Galloway, felt recoil seems nearly cut in half. Also easier to rack - not an issue for me, but a woman might find that a good benefit.

Another great video. I have the Canik TP9; I like it a lot. I very much appreciate your comments re: "...the gun doesn't matter as much as YOU matter..." Totally agree! I hit the range sporadically (4-6 times a year) and I prefer my GP-100; I'm a lot more accurate with that. And though I spent six years in the Navy, I've never been under fire, but I am very aware that the ENTIRE self-defense/shooting scenario will change when/if that adrenaline dump ever happens. So... I have chosen the .357 magnum revolver as my primary home self-defense firearm, as I am very familiar and accurate with it. I'm learning to use the pistol better, and I agree with your other videos re: shotguns, as their patterns give them a limited advantage due to collateral damage issues. I appreciate your expertise; please keep it up!

This is one of the best videos I have seen. Straight on and to the point. I think you just convinced me to go with the CZ P10F instead of the Springfield Echelon. For me the $200 price difference is the deciding factor along with your review.

Nice list! Being of German origins I would favor the Walther PDP…that and I have an HK VP9 that I absolutely love…but it’s not exactly a budget gun either

If you had a bigger budget would you choose the Canik TTI combat over the Rival series?

I carry a Canik METE MC9 as one of my EDC almost daily. My other favorite EDC is my Sig X Macro. These two are my favorite GoTo EDC guns.

Considering that most people will never attend any kind of formal training a four inch revolver is my recommendation. It's much safer and easy to maintain. It also has a heavier trigger pull so one is less likely to have a negligent discharge.

I think the P-10C would be the best all arounder, even moreso than the F. The P10C isnt small by any means and yet will conceal much easier than the F
@joshuafallet56907 ай бұрын
Well said the grip on the f is stupid big and is bound to print.

I understand his pick because its a actual home defense handgun but I do have a P10C myself and it takes the P10F magazines. I just use a sleeve to take up the space and it makes for a seemless grip. I have a P-09 too and my 21 round mags and 19 round mags are shared between both guns. P-09 for bedside, P10C for everyday carry.
@stealmysunshine7 ай бұрын
Why not go for both 😉? One for home and one for carry?

I have the f and c. C is optics ready, threaded barrel, f is irons. The slides are completely interchangeable, as well as the mags and they're 2 of the best guns ever made.

I have alot of pistols now, my favorite pistol is my canik metes and my rival. Awesome pistols, perfect triggers, bigger guns so they arent snappy. After those id pick my echelon, the whole red dot setup to run any footprint is awesome!

Good choices..I started with the M&P shield, then to the M&P competitor, then Canik rival darkside tricked out, then the TTI combat..

I bought a Canik Tp9Sxf a little over 4 years ago and absolutely love it. I have noticed it's very finicky with new shooters and limp wristing the firearm though. Whenever I have someone who is fairly new to shooting use it they seem have a lot of ejection failures. It's pretty easy to fix by working with them to feel more comfortable and confident with the firearm though. I highly recommend Caniks for their reliability and recoil management.

After owning a Springfield XDM Compact in .40, then getting a Walther PDP Pro Compact. I shipped them all ahead to FL in anticipation of a move. However due to construction the move was delayed, and I was stuck without any other firearms back in PA. I needed something new and reliable to hold me over, and I didn't want to just waste money on some piece of crap. I tested many potential options over a couple of weeks at the rental range. Tried a S&W M&P 2.0 compact, Sig P320 compact, Sig P365 X Macro, CZ P10C, Glock 19, and CZ P07. I was the most accurate consistently in descending order starting with the CZ P07, CZ P10C, Sig P320, S&W M&P 2.0, Glock 19, Sig P365 XMacro. The CZ P07 and P10c were basically tied, sort of depended on the day. Surprisingly the P320, as ungainly as it feels and looks, shot really well for me. I really wanted to like the M&P, something about the original lever trigger just wouldn't play nice with my style. The Glock 19 is sort of awful in ergos (for me), and trigger (for everyone). I was really surprised by the Sig P365 Xmacro...I almost bought it before shooting it as it was originally my first choice, it felt great in hand in the store, and trigger wasn't terrible...however in person I could not get it to shoot accurately for me, no matter what I did. I tried it on multiple days...and no matter what I was throwing rounds all over the paper, 10, 15, 25 yards, didn't matter. I ultimately ended up going with the CZ P07 (gen 2) with the threaded barrel. I really fell in love with it, while it was as accurate as the CZ P10C, it shot softer. It was one of the softest shooting polymer pistols I've ever shot. The ergos are great, and I love the DA/SA Omega system on it, currently running it with a decocker. It can take basically all current CZ double stack mags...it's just a pleasure, especially for the price. I could see someone maybe getting turned off cause it doesn't have a stock red dot system...and it'd cost a couple hundred to either buy a pre-cut slide, or get yours milled if you want one. I generally don't care for red dots on pistols, so it didn't matter much to me. Though I do plan on getting it stippled, and doing some trigger work (gonna Cajunize it...), also throwing a primary machine comp on it.

Honestly I bought a PDP because of the info here. I highly recommend it. Got almost 500 through my PDP. And I love it. Working on decking it out now. Put trijicon iron sights on it when I broke the rear poly sight.

My beginning pistols were SP101 327. Started shooting 32 long, moved up to 32 mag, then the 327. Now I reload 32 long cases like magnums for the fun of it. My second was the LC9S. Light, thin and affordable for it's time.

I have the Canik Mete for my main home defense gun. I haven't put a dot on it, but the sights are big enough that I can easily get a good sight picture without focusing on that front sight so much.

I think for me as a beginner I rather have a DA/SA gun because this way I can have one in the chamber but not worry about the trigger being too light . I’m surprised you didn’t put one on the list. Love your vids Chris! Ty for making those
@jefferytillis83097 ай бұрын
Nice list . Probably would replace the Canik with the IWI Masada. The Caniks started off as an affordable knockoff of the Walthers . And at the current prices might as well go with the Walther. The Walther has been refined beyond where Canik is now. The Masada falls more into the budget option over Canik and is still a very fine reliable pistol. Of course there are many other options as well. We live in an age of extreme variety in handguns.

CZ at the top as it should be. I've had 6 firearms from different manufacturers: Smith & Wesson, Uberti, Anderson, Taurus, Ruger and CZ. The only one of them that had none (not even the slightest) issues whatsoever was my CZ P-10C OR. I've managed to make all of my guns work (except darn Redhawk), but the fact that I haven't had a single issue with CZ makes me respect that gun the most.

Thanks for the info as always Outlaw ~ Really appreciate the time and info! I am so close to "pulling the trigger" finally on a PDP or CZ10!!! Thank you for coming in hot on these as they have been at the top of my purchase list for months! They shot so incredibly well at the range recently, even after seeing oceans of action from previous members. I couldn't agree more on the aggressive grip for taller ladies and gents. If you have larger hands and are 6' +, trust in Outlaw. The recoil is laughable, especially with some time, practice, and simply what the gun allows you to hold. Would really recommend anyone who is considering the PDP or CZ to give them some shots. LASTLY - It would be awesome Outlaw if you could make a video on your top 5 "End of World" Rifles!! The top 5 handguns was fantastic, but as someone who is just getting into rifles, it would be awesome to hear your thoughts on different shotguns, long rifles, or even bolt actions that you think would be incredible for hunting, protecting friends/family, or survival. Thank you again and be well brother ~

Thank you for making this video. I love watching all the videos but the ones that pertain to specific topics are really interesting to watch and learn. I wish you could make a video something like this one for disabled people who are in a wheelchair and are venerable out in public places that would love to be able to defend themselves in a self defense situation. Thanks and I love your videos
