Yeah, Smith and Wesson have done and are doing great things in the gun market when it comes to quality, design, and innovation. The newer M&P Metal handgun that released is really a pleasure. My only personal drawback is the amazing trigger. It's amazing in terms of smoothness and reset, but I want my personal carry/duty gun to have a stiffer trigger like a Glock so there's no accidental discharges during possible highly tense lethal threat situations where one's adrenaline will be high. I mean you just put a bit of pressure down on the M&P Metal and bang! Great for the range, but not my personal carry.

You can make a good argument for almost all these guns on HO's list, but I swear to hell... Glock is so fucking overrated. I have seen video after video of glocks failing while other guns like an M1911 and a S&W M&P 2.0 succeed with flying colors. Now, I WILL say, I think perhaps the older Glocks may have been much more reliable than the newer models for whatever reason, but regardless, I hate how Glock gets this place of honor in so many gun lists that it really REALLY doesn't deserve. Overpriced, shitty out-of-the-box trigger, temperamental, bad finishes, lacking in features, and without any external safety. The Glock is just a joke with the only exception being, again maybe, the older models. Like gen. 3 and down. And only because they might actually have the purported reliability that glocks are supposed to have.

@@Slider6294 It's really dependent on what kind of arthritis they got. If it's mostly in the finger joints then definitely focus trigger but if it's in the wrists then the big focus needs to be recoil shock and slide pull weight. Good list. I have to say I'm putting the M&P over the echelon. I have no doubt it's solid but the M&P is much more proven and Smith and wesson just keeps making it better. I also would of liked to see a walther on there Somewhere. Possibly the ppq.

I had an Echelon... *Had* an Echelon. Loved the way it felt while getting to know it in dry-fire practice, HOWEVER the magazines couldn't handle the Arizona desert. I took it to a competition as it's maiden voyage. Stage one, flawless. There was a reload in the stage so I dropped one of the the mags in the dirt. Picked it up, banged it on my knee to knock the dust off it, loaded it back up. Stage two, jams, failure to feed. Convince the RSO to give me a mulligan. Go back to the tech table, completely disassemble the mag, run a rag through it, wipe off the follower, reassemble and reload, run the stage again. Jams, failure to feed. Good thing I brought a backup pistol, I finish the match with gun X. Afterward I experiment with the Echelon again. Clean the mag again and I get it to run. Drop BOTH mags in the dirt, bang them on my knees, reload, BOTH mags jam. Repeatable results, this is an unreliable system. What was gun X? A Shadow Systems XR920. That same XR920 went through a 2-day ~500 round pistol training class and allowed me to qualify Expert, no jams or problems AT ALL, all while dropping those mags (Magpul GL9) in that same dirt, them getting kicked and stepped on, and all me doing to clean them off is banging them on my knees and loading them back up. But that's more a testament to the mags than the gun, right? Well, I traded my Echelon for a used Shadow Systems MR920 with an RMR on it. I brought THIS one to a 2-day ~750 round pistol optics training course. About 2/3 of the way through day two I dropped the gun, at the time it didn't have a magazine in it and all that desert dirt went up into the frame through the magazine well and locked it up to where I could barely get the slide off the gun. But I managed to field strip it, wanged the frame and slide on a folding table a few times to clear out as much dirt as I could, blew into the crevices a few times, added some fresh oil to the slide rails, rammed it all back together, and ran it the rest of the class without any further maintenance. Racking it sounded like I was rubbing two pieces of sandpaper together and I could feel the grit in the trigger, but despite all that there were zero malfunctions. Ran the qual with it like this, achieved Expert with it like this. Shadow Systems products have earned my trust, I've owned 4 of their handguns at this point and plan to own more. I know FOR YOU Shadow Systems has NOT been reliable, and that's completely the opposite of my experience. And here you are recommending an Echelon, which is completely OPPOSITE of my experience! Funny how much a change in environment and/or a bad case of QC can completely change the end-user experience.

I’m shocked that no M&P made this list, considering: 1) your own proven first hand testing & experience 2) the outstanding performance during other grueling reliability tests from people like Garand Thumb (eg mud, freezing, dropping, etc.) 3) Its own track record with military/LE I know you like 1911s, but no way I’m taking one over a modern M&P 2.0 if I had to bet my life on it.
