I'm about 3/4ths the way through. I just want to say: for those who are super against safeties in a duty pistol - I served for eight years in the US Army as a tank crewman. Most people in the Army do not carry handguns, tankers and MPs are the main exception. That being said, an actual hard safety is 100% necessary for military purposes. The sheer amount of people you have handling weapons, on top of the sheer number of people who are not super careful with weapons, makes a hard safety completely necessarily for military purposes. I get that for civilian purposes with an enthusiast handling a firearm on the weekends and when they're specifically carrying - sure no hard safety is hunky dory. But when you take the least-common-denominator Pvt. Joe Blow who has never handled a handgun in his life, and is suddenly going to be handling a handgun constantly ...that shit is 100% necessary. That is all.

Mine stovepiped the very first round I put through it. I've had 5 or 6 failures total, most of them being failures to eject and one failure to extract. I noticed the gun does not seem to like running a full mag plus one in the chamber. In fact, I think every failure I had occurred when I ran a full mag plus one in the chamber. More importantly, the modular rear sights came loose on me THREE times since buying the pistol brand new last month. The first time happened after running about 390 rounds. The torx screw that secures the rear sight came loose. I tightened it, fired another 270 rounds another day and not only did it come loose again, but the torx screw backed completely out of the threads and dropped down into the slide rails, locking the slide up. I brought the gun to a local gunsmith and asked him to look at the threads and tapping, and to reinstall the screw and secure it with fresh loctite. He did. I took it home, fired about another 170 rounds through the gun, and the sight came loose again. Fed up, I sent it back to Sig for repairs. They paid for the shipping it back and forth, and it arrived back to me just a couple of days ago. I have a feeling the rear sight will come loose again. I believe it's a design flaw. Why on earth would they design a removable rear sight secured by torx screws secured only with loctite that mount from the underside of the slide and upwards? Especially on a pistol designed for military use? If they went top-down, at least if the sight came loose and fell completely off, the soldier operating the pistol could continue firing it. If the failure that resulted in the slide locking up due to the torx screw dropping down into the slide rails happened to soldier in combat it could very well cost their life, and possibly the lives of others.

@Gabrielk 2024 I'm a former Navy Seabee. I would say about 1 in 7 are issued a sidearm, the rest of us had a rifle, with a very select few getting a shotgun. Most of our top shooters where guys and gals that relied on a gun to put food on the table before they joined the military.
@HFTONE5 жыл бұрын
It's been my training that if you're within pistol range in a gun fight, you'd better know how to shoot accurately without actually using sights. If you take the time to align sights you're likely going to lose the battle. You can be deadly accurate using the sights but if you can't do it really fast you're a dead man.

I built a 320 X-Carry over the course of early to mid 2020, with factory parts that were randomly available. Its a pretty good gun. It ran flawlessly until I had several failures to extract at the same range day (different mags, different ammo, same failure) but I also hadn't cleaned that area of the firearm for about 500 rounds. So I chalked that up to my own error, it hasn't happened again so far. Pros: - Apparent excellent accuracy for a handgun - Good ergonomics for most hand sizes - Above average trigger pull for that family of handguns - Mags drop freely every time without wiggling/shaking the weapon - Good size and weight for all-around use - Modular and easy to work with internally Cons: - More muzzle flip/recoil than some other polymer striker-fired options due to higher bore axis and general design - The reset could be more forceful - In my case, I wish I would have bought the heavily stipled grip instead. I find myself somewhat over-gripping the gun to keep it from moving around in my hand, thus affecting my trigger finger reflexes and capability due to tension; this causes some minor inconsistency sometimes in the big picture, we're talking about split times at that point. - Cost is kinda high for what it is and the mags are expensive, although good. I'd say its a middle-of-the-road type of striker poly gun in essence. Some people will prefer the way some of the glocks or CZ's shoot overall; some people will prefer the trigger of the Walther or the H&K. *In my opinion* in its X-Carry grip module form and 3.9 inch barrel/slide assembly, it is the best *looking* poly striker on the market, and I think they could use the fire control units (the internal gun itself) or something very similar for more types of firearms in the future, not just normal handguns, so, there is something to be said there as well for the design and its possible influence moving forward. But it has been a pretty good handgun for me so far overall.

Finally added this one to my safe this week. Came with 2 21rd mags and a 17rd. I’m not sure if Sig made that change permanently or if I just got lucky. Definitely ready to head to the range.

I handed my NIB 1911 Colt Gov over to an ex-SEAL, a Christian friend and a veteran of Bay of Pigs who ended up as an Orthopedic Technician at our local Children's Hospital. He 'asualterized' the sidearm to a spec that is far beyond that of the most expensive of the configuration; it's one-of-a-kind now and it's mine. It took him 4 months to build and me nearly 500 rounds for me to seat it, which is normal,. The 1000's of rounds since only make it the most accurate and the most reliable sidearm I have ever holstered... It gets better with use. No. it's not technique, it's the weapon.

Sig website says the M17 barrel = 5” and the P320 Full Size barrel =4.7”. I have the Full Size, w/Streamlight flashlight and 20 round mag as the “nightstand gun” because it’s such a smooth shooter. I can imagine the M17 is as smooth or slightly smoother. I’ll bet that 20 round mag would balance the gun better for you. Helps mine.

I have a 320 RX full size and everything you say is right on, like all your reviews! I will say that the more I shoot this gun, the more I like it. Especially since I did a Grey Guns comp trigger job and bought the TXG grip module. Added about a pound to the lower grip. Wow transformative! Big soft shooting and fast. It’s like and old school caddy. I absolutely love the gun now. More than my P10C? Not really but it’s a solid #2 among my pistols. For the range, I’d probably pick the Sig first.

Got the M17 with no safety and loved it. Then I bought another one, but with safety and I am never going back. These pistols are amazing and I recommend everyone put their biases aside and just try it. If you don't like it then fine, but chances are you will.

I tend to be the opposite of most--Glock ergonomics are awful for me (not a problem with the gun, just user interface) so they tend to be about equal in shootability. Neither can touch the M&P or Cz P10 series in my hands.

I've never been a Glock fan, either. They're perfectly fine guns but I don't like them due to the ergonomics. Like you, I prefer the M&P and the CZ P-10.

Just added the CZ P10F to my collection. I like the P10c for ccw. 19 plus 1 for the F for home defense.

The only thing I like about Glock is that I can use the same magazines for all the different sizes (assuming same caliber, double stack). The P320/M17/18 gives me the option of a SC on the ankle, compact on the hip, and full size in the truck that will all use the same extended mags. The fact that I can change calibers in under 10 seconds is also very handy.

Just shot this for the first time over the weekend and qualified Expert. The sights are MUCH better, and single action all the time is very nice, but the super small slide release is worse not better (in my opinion) than the one on the M9, and I did feel like it was a little more difficult to get a good grip because of the increased (and rounder?) diameter of the grip. I dry fired it a little bit before we started, and I was very unimpressed with it - the trigger break felt really soft and rubbery, and you could barely tell the striker did anything. But during qualification I did not experience any issues.

So out of curiosity, (fairly new to the channel so if I've missed something, show mercy!), but it seems that you've had tons of problems with the P320 series, but this M17 review seemed overwhelmingly positive, would you still recommend this pistol as a general use/home defense/range pistol 4+ years after your review even with your terrible experiences with P320s otherwise?

Shooted it here in Germany at the range form a friend of mine and it was smooth and accurate as hell. He bought it for something about 750 Euros and when it was clear that SIG will sign the contract for the u.s troops they stopped delivering the civil market.

I own the P320 and love it. It's been reliable, not a single malfunction in my 5000+ rounds. I'm curious to know if you could do a comparison video with the M&P 2.0 5" to see which one you prefer as I also have the entire 2.0 line except for the 3.6" which to be honest, is a bit of overkill to me. Anyhow, another great review of another firearm I enjoy even though I haven't purchased one yet but it will be a part of my collection soon.

Torin Rodriguez I have a 4.7 320 and my son has a M&P 2.0 5 inch. They are both great guns. He has had two failures with me there, both fail to feed. The M&P has a very abrasive grip which I like. The M&P has a loose slide. It doesn't seem to affect the functionality it is just loose. My Sig is tight and the action is very stiff in comparison. The Sig has better sights which are tritium from the factory. The triggers are a wash with me preferring the Sig. I have had 0 failures with my 320. Mine had the new trigger from the factory. Both guns have about 2500 rnds through them.

@@ErikS308, I own the entire 2.0 line minus the 3.6" model, I love my M&P's but I also love my Sig's. I have a P320, P226 Legion, my dad's old service weapon the P220 and and they all are freaking awesome, I just would like to know how Outlaw feel about both, I think he's got one of the best channels going, and I take his opinions over many others, Sootch and Hickok are 2 others that give great info but Outlaw is the man.
