When I was a teenager (ages 13-15), I was so obsessed with Amy Lee's vocals that during vocal lessons I could pull off any of her songs while singing completely trashy everything else ending up with mostly singing Evanescence songs for the exams :) I sometimes still sing her songs for warm ups and I'm always surprised by the muscle memory I have of those songs and how with them I can notice how my voice changed in last 15 years. But I generally don't sing anything similar to her style. What I would add about her style is that her belts contain a lot of volume modulation - which is very rarely used by mainstream singers nowadays and I would recommend her songs if someone wants to practice such :) Also if someone wants to sing something where they would want to try to "release" their voice and check their range/stamina/abilities - I recommend her songs because the melodies "flow" in a way that one won't accidentally harm their throat while singing :)

I can sing. Her songs like my immortal, but i tried to sing going under like 3 times but i always think im singing to high so i try to lower it and then i sound like someone punched me in the throat but powered throigh lol. Im not really a good vocalist but i like to try to take the little things the singers do along with the notes and stuff to see if i sound like them. Yaaaaaas, so cool! Thanks dear Georgina, Amy Lee is my favourite singer and I've watched countless live videos of her singing myself (I knew pretty much all of them, I must admit), so this video is really exciting to me! IMO Amy's voice developed really greatly over the years. On the records they managed to keep her very dark and thick tonal quality while transforming it into these very strong and sharp belts in her upper range, which is so cool! Sadly, she wasn't really able to pull that off live at the time, especially because she's a really intense performer. So she tended to be out of breath a lot. There are clips of her though, when she was randomly singing along to her songs backstage or sth, when she hit these notes with ease, really, but in a lighter, sharper tone. The clips you mentioned were different were indeed younger. She somehow managed to work a more sustainable live version of her belts out, that she used on more recent studio works as well. She literally sounds the same now live and on CD, check "Synthesis" out. Some parts in older songs she does differently, though. Last year I saw her live and while she was able to safely perform all the songs well, her... resonance? I guess - was all over the place sometimes. That's still the case with her, she sometimes sounds like a speaker with a glitch. Sometimes its so loud and thick and then again less supported or darker with a lowered larynx jaw and more breath... Oh Lord, I am nerding hard here, am I not? Guess I am an Amy Lee voice nerd. 🤣 Gotta admit what you gotta admit! 🤷♀️ Anyways, I think the two hardest songs she's got in her repertoire (despite most of them being challenging as hell, mind me) are "Cloud Nine" and "Never Go Back". Maybe you can check those out. Her live versions of these two songs show some real struggle except for maybe two versions I found. Maybe I can find the clips!

I looove Amy's voice, and I've been a big fan for many years now, but I've always thought her live vocals can often sound forced and painful. Especially more recently. I hope she's taking care of her beautiful and unique voice, and works with a trainer to maintain what she has. Oh P.S to be fair, these were all definitely not her best vocals. I've heard better live vocals from her of every song in this list. A shame whoever makes these doesn't really put much effort into finding the actual best vocals. It should just be called "compilation of my favourite Amy Lee vocals".

with the performance of the song 'The Change', she did mention she was sick during that live session, having admitted it before after she had performed 'My Heart Is Broken', saying she wasn't sure she was going to be able to sing it. you can tell in her voice when she's sick, that she's having a little difficulty getting the notes out as well as she would've ( especially with it being acoustic performance, where she's sitting and not 'rocking out' with the head banging and what not ). I still love that performance though. even though she was sick, she still showed up ( along with the band, obviously ) and killed it beautifully. it's one of my fave lives of 'The Change'. Plus, these are not her best performances. ( some, yes. but there are so many other live performances that easily top most of these. )

I know that there will be many speculation again on what voice type Amy really is and I want to explain it so that there is no more confusion about it. She is a dramatic soprano. That means it's not unusaual that she feels comfortable singing even low mezzo notes. (He Lowes live note is C3. that's even considered contralto range) But the highest live note she can reach (head voice) is E7 (or even F7) and you can hear that this is much more comfortable for her than the lower register she is able to reach and makes it very clear that she is a soprano. And the reason for her powerfull belts is just the fact that she belongs to the "dramatic voice Fach). They are usually always the ones with the most powerfull voices and best belts. On the other hand it would be very unlikely for a mezzo (except coloratura) to reach the 7th octave. The singers with the highest vocal ranges are often coloratura contralto s (that often can reach soprano notes) or dramatic sopranos like Amy (that can reach contralto notes) and they are both often mistakenly defined as mezzos. Hopefully that will make it clear now. This video clearly does not show her best live performances and for sure not the once that show her ability to sing c3 and 7e very clear and powerful. Not the best analyze of Amys voice. You will definetly find better videos of that on KZbin.
