Same here it makes the song more emotional like someone's singing while crying out there emotions. When you cry sometimes you're gasping a lot so it just gives me this kind of feeling like the singer is crying her heart out to the song so I personally love this one.

You have to do that in a song like this with moments of little breathing space. It shows she is singing with her body, efficiently engaging her diaphragm and flexing it to pull more air in and keep the lungs expanded

for majority of people, you have to choose between being a technical singer or an emotional singer, like you can't do both...cause their fav could never. Some technical singers sing with more flaws to be more emotional but LARA and Sohyang are here to prove that you can be very emotional and telling stories but keeping a perfect technique. WOW! I usually like your reactions but you really missed the mark on this one. I guess I’ll chalk it up to you not feeling well because I can’t believe how much you picked apart this incredible performance of this poignant song written by Lara, and right off the bat you criticized her bending over even though you said you’ve never seen her perform before and yes, she conveys emotion with that style, but it does not affect her singing/sound whatsoever ... but you criticized it before you even heard her singing. Also her breathiness is another of her performance styles to convey emotion. How are you missing that? You complain all the time about singers who just sing songs and not performing them, and Lara is performing the hell out of this song and all you’re doing is picking at it and completely running the enjoyment of her performance for your audience.

It is not a style to bend... bending is part of her flawless act. She is fighting... Lara is art! Beyond the amazing technique, Lara has depth, goes into the character, actually feels what she sings and sends that message, not only by holding a microphone and singing some lyrics, but by acting as well. She is one of the FEW complete artists that have ever been. She does not need dancers or some other things on stage, like back vocals to fill in what is not missing anyway. That is the thing with her, she is a fully whole, complete artist. You have the story writer, the story teller, the main character, the music and the story itself, in a single person. This woman is the best example any honest vocal coach should teach their students. The perfection of a person in just a few minutes. She is there, telling you THAT story. And she does it mesmerising. She is using her breathing to send emotions clearly. I hate it when coaches do not see the brilliance she is made of. She is not JUST SINGING! THE WOMAN IS PERFORMING! Listen to it and try to get yourself into the song. Feel what it's been said and imagine that woman is you! The story is about a woman picking up her pieces after being left broken hearted, cheated and left for another. She is telling that person who left her, probably in her intimacy, in her mind, in her anger, in that moment the words she should have said. 'I let you go I let you fly Why should I keep On asking why' There is a battle in between letting go but still feeling hurt by what happened. OF COURSE SHE IS BREATHLESS! That is actually part of the performance. When she had enough that her voice is breaking... when she feels she said too much or never said everything and that ANGER COMES OUT. It's all an act... a perfect art!

@@gonzaloponte2011 Lara has a better technique than Céline who strains a lot and doesn't have a consistent support. She's also an amazing songwriter and musician. Being famous is mainly about good marketing, not just about talent. Don't get me wrong, Céline is an incredible vocalist, one of the best, but she had the chance to have an excellent manager and very influential people around her, including successful and talented songwriters/composers/producers. She had a huge support from Sony music and the best marketing while they changed the strategy around Lara at the last minute, tried to change her as an artist, then let her down after her breakup with Afanasieff and after she refused some of their requests. Lara was involved in each part of her career and had to fight to get what she wanted and be where she is while almost all of the decisions about Céline's career were made by René who overprotected her. Lara is one of the best vocalists of all time (yes, as good as the trinity) and a complete artist who writes in 4 languages, composes, plays the piano, is very musically educated...she's the whole package.

Lara's use of breathing,as mentioned by Touch!Bae, is definitely a trade-mark of her singing throughout the years. She uses her breath as part of her musical instrument, to add emotional depth. If she is hunched over it is because she wants you to see her hunched over Her technique is without question and she has proven herself technically over and over through her training and long-standing career. It's not always about technique though. Especially with Lara. It's all about emotion and feel, and emotion and feel will trump technique every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Lara is Belgian, not French. She speaks several languages fluently - French, of course, Italian (her mum's Italian), English, Spanish. She got famous after she moved to Quebec, with Tout and Je t'aime - Je t'aime is a worldwide hit. You may have a harder time with her French songs, but she has lots of beautiful English songs, she has 2 English albums. You should definitely check her covers of Adagio and Caruso. If you loved Broken Vow - by the way, Josh Groban has covered it plenty of times -, you'll definitely love I Guess I Loved You, Silence, You're Not From Here, I Will Love Again and so on. She is definitely the best female singer in the world right now. She's been a judge on The Voice in France several times. As for her breaths, it's just her style. She has amazing vocal control and she definitely doesn't run out of air. She's very technical about her voice. Also, she's been classically trained and she can also sing opera. You'll definitely get even more impressed with her as time goes on. It's a shame the UK and the US don't know much about her, cause she's extremely famous in the entire world. She's been touring all over Europe, South America, Middle East.

Lara Fabian is NOT a French singer. She is Belgian. The song you are listening to was written by Lara Fabian and another person. It was recorded by Josh Groban. She is a FAMOUS seasoned singer.

Sorry to comment that the only thing you know about her is wrong, but you said she is French. She is from Belgium. She moved to Canada and has citizenship in both countries. She also sings in eight different languages so there you know another fact!

Is it any wonder that Lara has had such a dramatic impact on Dimash Kudaibergen who has obviously taken on her 'in the moment style', never once braking the emotional magnetic journey. This is story telling through music that never once lets up until her last breath utters that final note leaving her audience completely and utterly spent. This is Lara's trademark. Recognize beloveds, that the magnetics of the Emotional body, and the feeling 'sense-sations' it generates in it's listeners, IS the language of the soul. Emotions, when Divine Will is allowed to come through unimpeded by Lara, never once breaking during Lara's sublime story-telling fashion, magnetically ensnares, and pulls it's listeners, completely enthralled, along a magical journey that elicits such sublime moments, as to induce what I call climatic, emotional orgasms. The physical body, in these perfect moments, is simply incapable of holding such high intensity's of Love that this vibrational energy simply results in an uncontrollable overflow of an involuntary release of tears. Such are the moments of incredible tenderness. This is 'Love', the cosmic magnetic glue that holds all Creation together. This 'Love', as generated by the Heart, is what makes people's hair stand on end when they recognize that they are in the presence of a divinely inspired Master. And this, to me, is the ultimate aim and purpose of all Great musical performances. These 'Gold Light Spirits', champions of Divine Will Herself, have always known that music can heal 'EVERYTHING'! Lara's music; her signing, does just that and more!

Before u start comparing her to Celine, they both grew up vocally in Canada so they have a similar way to use vowels. But they started singing around the same time so yeah not really any similarities besides that.

Lara did not grow up in Canada. She grew up in Sicily, Italy until the age of 5. Then she moved to Belgium.

Sergio_afull Very true, but Lara spent a lot of time in Canada at the beginning of her career. Her vocal training makes her vowel placement very specific indeed. Some people think she’s grimacing when she’s actually placing her notes perfectly. That being said, one funny thing about Lara is that she’s picking up the accent very quickly. When she’s interviewed by Belgian hosts, she starts pronouncing words with a Belgian accent. Same with the French Canadian accent. I think it’s just a unintentional mimicking process, but it’s funny to notice during interviews.

The pronunciation of her surname is wrong. You pronounced it as if it was an English word. I like Adagio by her. The Italian version she did. I am Italian so I prefer Italian versions usually :P

Oh, Lara's Love by Grace is GORGEOUS! kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZWwgICohbVsldk There's something every hardcore fan knows about the concert the Broken Vow video was taken from. It was during one of Lara's toughest personal times - she was in a very very dark period and she was extremely ill. What you saw was her performing while very sick, which is even more impressive. And she's recently just recovered from another difficult illness - she got deaf because of a technician sending a very high sound in her earpieces during a show - she was deaf for a longtime and wasn't sure she'd be able to recover her hearing and perform again, which left her devastated. Fortunately, for her sake and our sake, she got better and is writing music and performing again.

About the shape of his mouth when singing, and the way she prononce a little bit like Celine Dion, it's because she's a French speaking person, who come from Belgium, and lived many years in the Province of Quebec, in Canada, where Celine Dion came from. Here, in Province of Quebec, we have some specific ways to produce voyels in French, that influence our way to prononce them in English too. :-)

Lara Fabian and Céline Dion are both francophones. To speak French, you have to move more your mouth. Even though here Lara sings in English, it might explain what you call the little « thing » they both have with their lips? 😊

Lara Fabian wrote new lyrics for this song in French [not just a translation of Broken Vow] specifically for a different artist. If you are not already familiar with this, I will not spoil the fun but the result would be well worth your reaction to a live concert performance by the other artist! To react unseen, click kzbin.info/www/bejne/nomWpGWsa9Z6j9E . Comment readers, click away but if you reply don’t spoil it by revealing the other artist, enjoy!

I really don’t think the sneer Lara and Celine do is anything about tonal modification. It’s just a facial expression that’s natural for them, including during speech, associated with emotion, and they don’t suppress it during performance. It’s just them.
