If you worried about the structural integrity, there’s a video on KZbin where a guy tries to stab a hole through a frying with pan with the honey badger medium. He then takes a broken brick or rock and uses the knife as a chizel while hammering it through the pan. Knife is perfect afterwards.

Bought the 1st Gen large last August and love it, even with its mediocre steel. I flipped my lid when I discovered they came out with a D2 variant! I went with the medium and its scheduled to arrive today! I almost want to call in sick to work so I can be here when it arrives...lol

That's pretty funny wretchpin, I know exactly what you mean. When I'm waiting for a new knife to arrive, my ears perk up every time I hear a car door close and I run to the window to look outside. It doesn't matter how crappy my day was, all my problems disappear when I see a package sitting at my front door.

I like the large Honey Badger because I have large hands. I also like the honey comb pattern on the scales, it gives the knife good grip. I also like the fact we can modify the Knife's backspacer.

Two years ago I watched this review before buying a Honey Badger... It became my favorite EDC for a solid year or two. Broke the very end of the tip off cutting up a bicycle box that had a hidden sturdy & sharp copper staple in it, which would have happened to any knife I used for the task. Despite having an Oknife Drever and CIVIVI Relic I like a little better, I just bought a 2nd D2 Honey Badger because it's so comfy and just works. I came back to rewatch because I remember there was a higher end knife you said it looked very similar too... Check out the new Fox Voxnaes Core. Totally looks like an 'ode to the Honey Badger / Maxace Balance' knife!

Bought this on recommendation from one of your lists. The large is an excellent hard use EDC for the price. It's pretty darn sturdy for a knife under $40. My only gripe is the failure to deploy if you don't "hit it hard". That's a lot of blade to get moving so it's understandable... Until it's broken in well of course!

Though I have large hands, I would probably chose the medium over either the large or the small. If I get around to choosing one I'll probably get the cheaper model with the 8cr13mov which will do just fine for my light needs. Besides, I kinda like the large finger/blade choil for doing fine work. Certainly a nice design and the construction as with the Ganzo/Firebirds seems to be of very good quality . Nice presentation, Jay. Thanks again.
@Obliticus4 жыл бұрын
Thanks again for the review Jay, good info here. But I think I'll stick with the original version with the cheaper price and more corrosion resistant 8CR steel. At the $30-$35 price range of the original, this is a great option, but once you bump it up to $55-$60 range, there are a lot more compelling options in my opinion.

@jerrymyers17985 жыл бұрын
@@TheKnifeBeater they both arrived today. The Lanner has the sharper blade out of the box, but I like the look of the HB blade more. The red aluminum spacer in the Lanner looks better then the flat red colored one in the HB. The HB flipper works much better of course.... The HB is a bit off center....both feel great in the hand with the HB having a tiny bit more pinky space, however the Lanner with it's small finger choil and contoured shape make it more comfortable to hold.....I'll call it a tie.....my main edc is a 20 year old Benchmade Elshewitz Stryker.....I purchased these to give my girlfriend and I a couple flippers to play around with.

I have the original in medium which is too small and large which I really like. If I get this it would definitely be the large. My glove size is basically XL can sometimes squeeze into a large on some gloves. I know you said it was overpriced and from the first offering it is but the Firebird you showed has no where near the amount of steel. So maybe a bit unfair there. I think that we expect a better deal due to the pricing of the first model. Thanks for sharing this. Stay safe and keep your blades sharp.
@TheKnifeBeater5 жыл бұрын
I see your point Rick. I used the FH41 as a comparison more for the blade steel and lock type. I agree, not many similarities beyond that. Thanks for watching.

Give me the Badger over the over rated Bug Out all day long in fact give me all 3 sizes because that is what you could buy for the price of one Bug Out and probably have money left over, this knife is a perfect example of why you don't always have to spend $100 to get a nice knife that functions beautifully. Are you kidding me, I have seen much better examples of a borrowed designs than the Maxace and the Honey Badger, the reality is there are very few original knife designs unless your last name is Isham or Brous, thanks for the review and I stand by the Honey Badger being one of the best budget folders out there.
@TheKnifeBeater5 жыл бұрын
I agree, you definitely do not have to spent $100+ for a quality knife. So many great designs out there just waiting to be found. I've taken risks buying some relatively unknown knives and have been burned (the Nemesis MPR is one example), but I've also found some gems. I consider the Honey Badger a diamond in the rough for sure. Thanks for watching woptucci.

Well, they came out with a d2 in small thank god. The medium is listed as @3.0 inch blade and the small is under three inches. I'll be damned if I spend another afternoon arguing with a Jr. DA if the knife is 3.03 or under 3 inches. I've lived in a lot of places in the US and 3 inches seems almost a standard. The phrase "under 3.0 inches" or 3 inches or less can change your whole afternoon. BTW I really like the Honey Badger

The two things that put the HB on the map were the action and the ergonomics. The jimped finger choil was a huge part of the ergos. Removing a distinguishing factor like that while increasing the price by a third to 'upgrade' to a steel thats more rust prone. I don't care what the armchair metallurgy dorks think. D2 is not a noticeable improvement over 8cr13MoV when you're mainly opening boxes and slicing an occasional apple. Bad move.
