Large "open air" honey bee colony is removed alive but during the removal process falls to the ground. They weren't real happy about that but I wound up profusely apologizing & they were kind enough to forgive me. Yay Bees!

Amazing informative video. I’ve not found anyone with the passion you exhibit for those Bees. I wish more of the public would take time to understand the importance of the Bees. I’ve had 2 nest of yellow jackets this year that were not being aggressive in anyway so I’ve left them alone and we have lived together this entire summer. Thanks again JP. You’re a great American!!!

ham, the suit is by Golden Bee Products, I helped design the suit! Not usually necessary to put LMO in a set up that has housed bees before, they can smell the odors from a previous colony, comb & propolis. I had already transferred 4 brood comb sections into the box before the hive fell, that's one of the reasons they were entering the set up.

I tell you JP I love what you're doing and how you take so care of removing these bee's. I once had a colony that toke home inside my overhang at my mothers house and she called a so called bee expert and he plugged the whole where the bees were getting in then drilled 3 holes then began to spray insecticide in the holes killing the entire colony, need less to say after I arrived back I gave a few strong words to the moron . Keep making the videos bud. I know without a doubt who I'm going to call if I ever have a bee problem again. Keep Buzzing!

I actually did some filming of this hive a few days ago with the GoPro & was going to include it in the video but the lighting was poor, with too many shadows & the GoPro does not do a good job with close ups. I know many have requested follow up videos & I have brought the camera with me & have taken footage but when I go to edit, the footage just seems boring to me, besides the fact that I have limited time to even make most of my videos these days anyway. I'll see what I can do though, just trying to keep things interesting & find the time to do it all!

Really enjoyed this video and the close up was great when you found/caged the queen. When you use the bee clip do you just reach down and grab her with the clip or do you pick her up with your hand and put her in the cage? How about if the queen is exposed on a firm surface? Any issues injuring a queen? By the way...your videos are great!

Bruce, I open the queen catcher & try to position it so she will walk in. Sometimes you have to be very quick about it or she could run into a crevice. You do have to be very careful you don't close the catcher on her.

JPthebeeman Lol, that's awesome and crazy at the same time. I'm up in MO/KS, they never have time here to build that much out in pen air. That was one of your worst grabs ever. That was an EASY hive JP; all you had to do was suit up in the beginning, and cut out combs. You would not have had all the issues that you created when you dropped the rest of the hive. Next time.... make it easy on yourself, and don't look for a silly fast way out. Just do it methodical, and it will go faster and easier overall. But you already know this........ So just follow what you already know. Great videos, I do enjoy your bee hunting!!Sincerely, Paul.

Hi guys, i have two questions. 1) I have a beehive it has three floors. There is no queen cage inside. Which floor or floors put the eggs by queen. 2) I don't want to give to the bees sugar, i want bees eat their own honey; i wonder that it's possible. The weather is -10 in winter here. Maybe the honey get freeze and they can't eat. Thanks for the answers.
@JPthebeeman4 жыл бұрын
Yusuf ÇETİN if I’m understanding you correctly you have bees that are in 3 boxes, no queen excluder, correct? I’m going to assume this is a Langstroth set up, correct? The hive boxes: all deeps? If 3 deeps, usually she will lay in the first 2 boxes, honey up top. During winter they will consume the honey & move up. If that’s the case you could move the bottom box up top to give them room to expand numbers again for spring build up. Honey can freeze & will usually crystallize/granulate when temps dip but as temps warm will usually re- liquify. Hope this gives you some clarity. 👍🐝

Question. How could they have survived storms and such with an outdoor hive like that?
@tealkerberus7484 жыл бұрын
DocLaw from what he's said in other vids, most outdoor hives don't survive even one winter there - the bees have to be really desperate to try to build like that. Shifting them into a nice solid box will have saved their life.
@tmcuevs79886 жыл бұрын
A few questions Jp. How do you entice the bees to go in the box when they are from an open colony? How long before you move the box and how?
@JPthebeeman6 жыл бұрын
tm Cuevs you deal with an exposed colony pretty much the same way you’d deal with one in an enclosed void space. Big open air colonies can be pretty aggressive as the bees are right there, exposed & ready to get ya if they’re displeased with your intrusion. Extra smoke is often needed. What I don’t like about them is they often encapsulate twigs, branches, leaves, fruit etc... You usually have to trim lots of the aforementioned stuff to remove the thing. But it’s pretty much like any other removal though. Don’t expect to wind up with much usable comb, again because of the aforementioned. As for moving the hive box, you usually will have to wait until dark to do so. I just smoke the bees some to get them to enter the set up then place them in the back of my pickup. If moving them after dark it’s usually not necessary to seal the entrance.
@tmcuevs79886 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jp but i still cant understand what makes the bees march to the box. I notice they march to the box before you put in the queen.. or do they just find the box cozy.
@JPthebeeman6 жыл бұрын
tm Cuevs they do find the box highly attractive due to scent from previous colonies that have inhabited the same set up. Bees have an extraordinary sense of smell better than even mosquitos!
