I like how Lupo went undercover and captured that guy after giving him $50. And while collaring the suspect, Lupo told him he'd need his $50 back. Sometimes you gotta go undercover to get the worst of them. Lupo was one of my favorite Law And Order detectives. Jeremy Sisto played him so well.

6:12 "The customer is always right." This line and Laverne's delivery really resonated on multiple levels. Even though I know he is undercover and just playing a character, it is still mind-bending to see Lupo being a bigot, which is antithetical to his character.

preference is not a bigotry. you're not obligated to be sexually attracted to a person that you're not interested in. some like it tall, some like it hairy, some like curves, blondes, certain genitals, etc. we all have types. and laverne's character knows this being on the streets for so long - experience tells her it's a transaction that people pay to fulfill a short-lived fantasy. that's why she played it so well. she listened and went "ah, got it, lemme recommend you another from the menu".

That being said, my interpretation of Lupo's undercover character being a bigot is not based on the character's sexual preference, but rather based on all the clues that were incorporated into the scene, some less subtle than others. If you did not notice the racial undertones of the scene then perhaps you have never been a recipient of or closely observed racist behaviour, or perhaps you have become immune to it and no longer notice. It is also possible that you view this scene macroscopically for its overall purpose, rather than microscopically and analyzing specific details. I do not know you or your background, so I do not want to speculate or make assumptions about your life. Once again, I wholeheartedly agree that preference is not discrimination and the act of declining a proposition is not in and of itself racist. However, the manner in which one expresses themselves through actions, words, and demeanour (including appearance) can be racially charged. These may not be discriminatory, but they send a message through micro-aggressions.
