Arguably the best and most efficient metro in the world. It works so effortlessly because the density of Hong-Kong allows for a single station to offer easy access for many riders being that the developed areas do not take up a lot of space having no spawl.

The big downside compared to Tokyo is the lack of express service IMO, which along with its enormously bigger scale, puts it way ahead for me.
@alphachiu4 ай бұрын
@@ulterior_webwell there is the airport express line, then again i think you dont understand how clean the mtr is compared to other places
@ulterior_web4 ай бұрын
@@alphachiu lol we’re talking about Tokyo here, do you honestly think it’s not clean in Japan? And sure, that’s one express line… while most rail lines in the 23 special wards of Tokyo have several levels of express service. JR Saikyo Line, Shonan Shinjuku Line, Yokosuka Line, Chuo Line, Keisei Line, Odakyu Line, Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin F-Liner, Keio Inokashira Line, Keio Line, Tokyo Monorail, Tokyu Toyoko Line, Den En Toshi Line, Seibu Ikebukuro Line, Tobu Isesaki Line, various special express services like Narita Express, and we’re ignoring long distance lines like all of the Shinkansen, Odoriko, Wakashio, Azusa, Sazanami, Romancecar, Spacia… the list keeps going on indefinitely. Hong Kong is great and has excellent infrastructure for its needs, but I don’t think it can reasonably compare to the 130+ lines that comprise the Tokyo rail system (arguably nowhere can). Speaking as someone who has spent plenty of time in Hong Kong and lives in Tokyo.

@@alphachiu the MTR is not much cleaner than the ones in Japanese cities, in Taipei, Singapore, and in most Chinese cities.

Coastlines of Hongkong have kept changing since 1850's because of reclamation. The section between Kowloon and Hunghom Stations on the blue line (KCRC British Section) followed the coastline of the 1910's. If a map of that era is used, it would be easier to understand why the track alignment was designed.

If you want a broader definition of "railway" you can also extend the time to include tram on Hong Kong Island and peak tram which opened in 1904 and 1888 respectively.
@davidng23363 жыл бұрын
The trams are operated by RATP Dev Asia, while the peak tram is operated by Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels. IDK why a hotel would run a transit system, to be honest.

Always hyped here for new stations, I’ve seen the Island line extension, kwun tong line extension, south island line added, ma on shan line + west rail -> tuen ma line, east rail line extension etc., and I’m still very excited for more even as an adult now

The video is amazing. Good Job! Btw. There are somewhere else can be fixed that would be more perfect to the video as following. 1. KCR British Section before rename to East Rail, the Railway line represented in the black and white stripes line. 2. KCR: East Rail used #0089d0 ; West Rail used #c93a95 ; Ma On Shan Rail used #a44c0e ; Light Rail used #f79239 3. The KCR Circle Station Symbols is different to the MTR symbol. Those were be used in the same colour as the line instead of using the black stroke like MTR, and also the symbol size was bigger than the MTR version.

In December 1995, it’s straighten the parts of tracks of KCR British Section between University and Tai Po Market stations, not included in search results, where is it come from, why?
@edwarddu69194 ай бұрын
Late reply, but the rail line used to follow the coast at the time. So the bendyness is actually where the land meets the sea at the time of construction. It was straightened to allow faster and more efficient service since by then, the sea is close to where the modern borders are at.

The East Rail Line from Hung Hom to Admiralty opened in 2023, I believe. The Exhibition Centre station is just south of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Note that many Chinese tourists come to Hong Kong through the East Line since it connects directly with China through Lo Wu (and way cheaper than the HSR system from Guangzhou).
