Quite hypocritical of the BBC to accuse the chief executive of Hong Kong of not being directly voted by the HK electorate, when the British Prime Minister was never voted by the British electorate. How many votes did Teresa May get from the British electorate during the 2017 general election?

Horrible Journalism. What Carrie Lam is saying that voicing out Hongkong independence is allowed because that is freedom of speech. But demanding Independence is against the BAsic law that the British agreed upon. Because if you declare independence then you are violating the one country two system policy, and then you basically negates the Basic Law and give China a reason to invade Hongkong. It's the same that Ireland or Scotland declaring independence and uses state undermining activities as terrorism, that is illegal aswell! Another example Catalonians are not allowed to declare or even speak about independence or they would end in Jail aswell, so don't be a hypocrite! pressing Carrie Lam in such quesitons is a display of disrespect and british arrogance!

The British have no right to say anything about Hongkong! During British colonial rule the governor was handpicked and directly send by the U.K. and even worse it had to be a white british national! It is quite odd that during all these while there was no British national with ethnic chinese origins in the U.K. who could have been governor. At least now Hongkong has a chinese governor who is born in Hongkong! Other than that U.K. could have given Hongkong rights to vote for their own governor, but they didn't. You might say Hongkong was a British colony so the governor needs to be a Brit. This is the same logic China is using! Why can Britain do it and China not? Why race matters you say? First of all language and culture, an ethnic chinese have an advantage over a non ethnic chinese in understanding the ways of its people. during all these while the British governors of Hongkong didn't even learned to speak chinese!

U.K., shut up and let we Hong Kong people decide our future. Hong Kong has never hire you to be our lawyer or advocate!
@sencao38757 жыл бұрын
Tianrui Zhang Man, calm a little bit. This might be the journalism you will never see on state run medias in Western Korea (yes I said that). Scots have SNP, their own nationalist party to express whatever they need. So there is no way that Beijing could infiltrate the Scottish independence, their needs are represented by a political party. However, an international media focuses on a world city (what's wrong with that), concerning the political issues that are completely censored regionally, then calling it biased isn't fair. Without the international pressure, more journalists and publishers in HongKong could be vanished. And if you think the politics are just as simple as the state medias depicted, then sorry if you feel that way. Yes, I'm writing in English avoiding being noticed by the rumored internet watchdogs and Chinese nationalists and being portrayed as a traitor, a pro-western puppet. You see the differences? Tianrui Zhang that is the journalism they uphold.. Personally I love watching British interviewing shows, parliamentary debate or whatever. And I think British politicians face more harsh questions from journalists.. The thing is, if the politician cannot handle the tricky questions and answer them directly and wisely, then how could they win people's hearts? And if the journalists cannot confront with the real harsh questions, what is the point of interview? They are supposed to question everything politicians say, and the politician should stand firmly. You see the British public figures, PM fucked up the interview, JC easily took down the rude journalist and led labour to a huge win. Nigel Farage also, he got very tricky questions against him, but his big mouth can swallow every journalist questioning him and made UKIP popular once... So this is not targeting her and making her embarrassed, this is every politician supposed to face when they became a public figure. And I don't think BBC is paying too much attention on this... I mean last video I saw on this channel that was fully reported on China was street interviewing on ordinary ppl in Beijing about their thoughts on Trump....and usually videos reports on China, the views are not as many as those reports on their home affairs. so... let's face it, they don't care, but if they do care, you can't skip the words like freedom, democracy, Tibet nah nah nah. Cause these are the real problems that need answers and debates. Sadly no debates are allowed. And no politicians have ever answered directly and properly.

Hypocritical mainland commie, please get your analogies right before comparing them. Scotland had a referendum and voted to stay in the UK. Britain also gave referendums to its colonies like Gibraltar and the Falkland Islands which also voted to stay. Now lets see China do the same to Hong Kong. Oh that's right, you wouldn't support that because nationalism and double standards are inseparable. At least be honest about it instead of trying to hide behind a non-valid excuse.

This BBC interviewer Carrie Gracie looks so impolite and aggressive to Lab Carrie. She tried to impose her biassed views on Lam, and interrupted Lam's speech. BBC interviewer should first tell people how British treated Hong Kong people. She should first improve her knowledge and learn what is "One country, Two system" before talking about independence. Poor BBC reporter.

Hong Kong deserves the right to self determination, whether it be to vote to fully join China, go it alone or to realign itself with the UK. Carrie Lam talks a lot about giving the young people of HKSAR a say in its future. But utterly lacks actual resolve in giving the young people a future worth living in HKSAR a future they can choose. And we can all see why, Beijing would rather see the place put to the torch than give meaningful democratic rights. Whilst it could be remarked that Carrie Lam is a powerful, direct and capable speaker she is nothing more than the extension of the CCP.

H.E. Michael K J Jonnel do you know when democracy do not work? Simple. It clapses when the voters are not wise enough to vote for their own best interest. Brexit is one example, a complex issue should not have been presented to the mob. 50 years of building of Euro project infrastructure being destroyed in a single day. Sad and stupid. The purpose of English media orchestrated HK independence talk is much sinister and is to ultimately destabilise China and derail it from its fast developing trajectory.
