When I was a kid in Hong Kong in the 1960s, my friend asked if I knew why that pastry was name the cocktail (chicken-tail) bun. He then squeezed it until the filling oozed out from one end like chicken pooping. I am retiring in the US and planning a trip to Hong Kong later this year. I should check out that place.

@HongKongHoods2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Chicken pies in the UK are a lot different from pork pies as pork pies are usually room temp! Compared to HK chicken pies, UK version tends to have a significantly thinner crust that isn’t as sweet- so the flavour profile is generally more focused on the chicken than the pastry. too bad you couldn't interview the owner and too bad I never tried their bakery having worked many times in the neighbourhood. the cream cone reminds me of the cream bun which literally a marriage between the cocktail bun and the cream inside the cream cone haaa...thanks for sharing with us

Thanks for watching as always! Yes, the cream cone is pretty much what your description sums up!

Gosh I really miss HK bakeries. Can't wait for the hotel quarantine to be done away with. The whole world has moved on!
@HongKongHoods2 жыл бұрын
Agreed- but they’ve just changed it to 3 days hotel quarantine, so HK is moving in the right direction!

Try another bakery opposite the Tsuen Wan Panda Hotel. You won't be disappointed.

Happy Cake Shop actually already opened a store in Ma On Shan. It is posted in Chinese at the Wanchai store.

Don’t care for the cream cone. Gai Mai bao and chicken pie are yum. Probably my favorites are: Tuna bun, chicken pie, curry chicken pie, char siu bao.

Why they closing? :( in my opinion they made the very best Bor Lor Baos!
@HongKongHoods2 жыл бұрын
It’s too bad, and we don’t know exactly the reason, but it’s probably that the owner wants to retire!

@@HongKongHoods Can't argue with that. Real shame though, I won't forget. Got photos somewhere lol
