Hey J.J.! I'm 54 , born in 1965, older brothers and my Dad listened to the Stones and all the other great 60's bands. Oldest went to Vietnam, I'm the yougest of 5 kids.They had this album, and the 45, remember those.HA,HA. My other older brother played Bass, still has his 60's Fender Jazz all original, pots and everything. My Dad's baby sister sang in an all girl band in the early to mid 60's. That's how she met my uncle. They got married in 67. He played guitar in many differant bands. If it has strings on it he can play it and sing like crazy even today! I started playing guitar at 10, an Ibanez' Gibson Lawsuit , Les Paul , 1971 model which I still have and, a 1966 Fender amp, still got it. This is the first song I learned to play. He showed me and taught me everything, Keith's Tuning and all.We played this in the school talent show in Jr. High, along with Kiss, Dr. Love. I was 12 and played with older 8th graders.We rocked the school and got the girls, HA,HA! I had to do a fast guitar switch after this song. I got my 1st Bass at age 12. The rest is history. Just wanted to say, GREAT JOB ,MAN!! Keith had his own style that's for sure.

I got this as a Decca single and was blown away. I played it again and again and again. I loved it. It's just so beautifully complex and ragged. I play it on my guitar now.

Your timing is impeccable. Recently, I've been honing down and perfecting this song and this should fill in the gaps. Such a fun song to play, too. I think this, Moonlight Mile, Luxury, and Knockin' are my favorites to play. The way they roll back into themselves. I could sit and play each song all frickin' day.

When people talk about guitar greats, rarely do you hear Richards’ name invoked, but the guy was innovative with great feel. This song is a perfect example of his genius. One of my favorite Stones songs to play.

What was your favorite Stones lineup? Personally, I like the studio stuff from 68 to 78 the best, but for the most part, that was all Keith and Mick Jagger that had the influence. Taylor influenced some things, but I don’t really think he was the god send some people say he was. Really, my favorite era of the Stones, was the Ronnie era. They have such a groovy sound live and yeah, the studio stuff hasn’t been the best, but I still love all of it.

JJ I like the original lick you are doing better than the sliding lick Keith does now. Also, the Gibson captures the tone better fro the studio than a Tele. I think he played some type of Gibson (335?) on the record anyway. Also the finger plucking/strumming gives the right tone! This is excellente!

I've always wondered what guitar he used for the recording. Maybe the black LP Custom? That was one of his main studio guitars at the time. But I really have no idea.

Walter Jeffreys I actually don’t think Keith really used the tele until much later. You can see him using a Les Paul for the Exile recordings in some old recordings. Which, if you listen to any open G tune between 69 and 74 it sounds too muddy for a tele. He obviously used them live, but I don’t think he used them in the studio

Kudos. Seminal Open Ging (Gness?) 4:40- I have debated this lick internally for years. Sometimes I think I hear a slide, sometimes I think I hear a bend. Regardless, I think the bend sounds better (don't they always?) 6:36- the coolest lick in the song. You gotta get the sweet and sour double stops in this tune. 9:25- It's key to have one guitar going up for that high G
@woody558
@woody558 6 жыл бұрын
My guess is that the opening lick has a bend and release for the first part then a slide for the second part. Hard to say for sure. I posted a version on my channel using only slides, but mostly because I was using .012 gauge strings.
