Watching your personal training videos for a race is far more entertaining than any other coaching videos. Even if you arent where you were years ago, its still fun to see you prep.

I'm a little late in watching this (reducing the 'online' time - ha) but glad I did. First off, congrats on a great race in HI! Super well done, woohoo! I will be in Salida here and there and plan on doing some running training on that bike path. I hope Elevation will let me park in their lot; maybe they will if I promise to have a beer after my run :)

Yeah it's going to be extra tricky to pace for a lot of reasons! I think everybody is going to have to slow down quite a bit because of the heat/humidity (although I imagine a lot of the runners are locals?)

Awesome running Sage, good luck with Honolulu marathon, you got this!, Sandy has the right name for her channel, the wilds come to Her with the moose doing a bit of pacing there, haha cool 🏃🏽‍♂️👣🙏🌲🌳🙈✅ 👍🏼

Surprised you didn't run more on a treadmill for heat training. Best of luck this weekend man!

Stay tuned for my next episode! I actually have been doing some runs on the treadmill with a jacket on. Ideally I would have access to a sauna but that's not easy access out there. Also ideally my treadmill wouldn't be in the (colder) garage but we don't really have a great space for it inside the insulated house. Finally (since I'm not sponsored by them!), I can't say I'm very fond of the NordicTrack incline trainer for running flat and fast. It's great on steep incline (powerhiking at 30% grade), but for actual speed and marathon workouts it shakes and springs a ton at over 10mph....hence why I did this workout outside. Like anything over 10mph on that machine is horrible!

I'm running the Honolulu marathon next Sunday too! Like you said, it will be 78-84F with 80-90 humidity. (The same running condtion here in DC in October at Marine Corps Marathon sent so many people to heat exhaustion.) I have been running in 40-50 F, so it would be a big drop in temp in a running condition. When are you flying in and how long are you going to take to acclimate yourself in Honolulu? WIsh you the best in your race!
@Vo2maxProductions

I arrive Thursday night. Honestly I don't think we really have time to "acclimate" and I'm kicking myself for not being able to get in a sauna the past few weeks. However, i'd recommend staying hydrated in the days leading up (not just water but sports drink). I'm taking a day off from running for the travel and then will do a fun shake out run (meet and greet) Saturday morning. Other then that I'll stay off my feet and be in my AC controlled hotel room mostly probably. It's going to be a shock to the system and my main strategy is going to be frequent hydration and really, really smart pacing. And nipple band-aids and lube on the arm-pits and groin for sure!!

@@Vo2maxProductions True. Hydrating early on is the key 🗝️. I've been reading last year's participants' reviews and they all complained about the high humidity from the start. The course with very little shades wouldn't help. Last year it appears to have drizzled at the start which decreased the temperature and humidity a little. I don't feel that God's mercy would happen again this year for us. It would be certainly challenging for you as you having been training in the freezing weather in Colorado. The sunrise in Honolulu is 6:58 am. You should be in the first wave so you can start 5:00 am sharp and will be done soon after the sun goes up and starts burning the runners on the street. If you're running as an elite, then your start time is after everyone in the regular participants has finished. Getting there on Thursday night and having whole Friday and Saturday is great! (I'm arriving early Friday afternoon.) Hope you have an amazing memorable run at Honolulu! The Guinness record holder 93-y.o. marsthoner Mathea Allansmith should be running too!! Looking forward to your video updates!

Can you provide the name/model of the jacket you’re wearing? Probably only for sponsored athletes but worth asking 😅
@Vo2maxProductions
@Vo2maxProductions 6 ай бұрын
You know honestly it's an old HOKA jacket that I'm pretty sure they don't make anymore (and I don't think they ever sold it publically). It was a Uglow design I believe (waterproof). I'd usually wear my newer HOKA UTMB branded rain jacket, but I wanted something thicker ("heat training") and more visible to cars (bright blue instead of black)

Sage, you mention the athlete blood test. Do you think it would be beneficial for a mid pack runner training to run a 100 mile race? Or is blood work geared towards more elite athletes?

10:30 2-mile? Boy I wish I was that quick. I'm riding around a 12:45 2-mile currently and was riding around a 12:38 2-mile split going into my last 5k I did a few weeks back, but it's gotten only colder out and my knees don't adjust well to the cold running weather easily.
