If you want have the easiest time possible: play as dark urge / carisma character / drow. Have Gale in your party, befriend him and agree on using the orb. Play act 1 normally. Charisma your way trough act 2. Once you get to Balthazar persuade him to get the bell. Leave , use the bell, kill the summon. Back to Balthazar, kill him while he's in the room you first meet him. Save the Nightsong, once everyone is at moonrise go back to Last Light and kill Isabel ( this will make Orins fight easier because you will have the transformation and she won't and killing Isabel now is a lot easier given she is on her own). Finish act 2. At this point you have practically won. Start Act 3, ally with Gortash. Get to the murder tribunal (being dark urge will allow you to skip the fight with savrock). 1v1 Orin (given you killed Isabel, she won't trasform and the fight is a joke.) This is the only required fight in ACT 3. Finish the game, once you get close to the brain, you will be able to ask gale to use the orb, completely skipping the final fight.

Take the Orin duel seriously. If you’re just depending on hacking away as Slayer form then you’re probably going to die. In order to avoid any risk of getting nuked by Orin’s mega attack, you need to be a bit more clever than that, either with a ton of pre-buffing or with a strategic exit and re-entry of the Slayer form to quickly regain all that health.

@@BenjaminHB Or, be a Way of the palm monk with tavern brawler, 3 levels in thief rogue and a cloud giant potion. Should Orin stab you out of slayer form, you reappear as the TRUE murder incarnate, then proceed to punch her 10 times a round. Pretty unlikely she manages to kill you out of slayer form tho, since tavern brawler, Monk's martial arts and thief's additional bonus action are active during slayer form Also for Act 2 you can kill Z'rell, the necromancer next door and the necromites on the roof before the final battle (just make sure you get rid of the scrying eye), this along with killing the warden makes the fight on the first floor much easier

A quick tip for Balthazar: if you cast Knock on his door in the Gauntlet of Shar during the fight against the Dark Justiciars, he'll be forced to join the battle and will be Neutral (Aka, he will only attack the DJs). After this, you can pull an Uno Reverse on his necromantic ass and hide in the room while all the enemies kill him and his minions. The only downside is that now you'll have to fight a good amount of DJs, but at least you won't have to deal with Balthazar, his army of spooky bois and his annoying Cloudkill casts.

Kinda think Orin is harder when she isn’t a slayer since she gets the same ability as Sarveok which lets her attack 5-7 times in a single turn and as a reaction with 20-30 damage daggers as well as a crap ton of stats that buff her resistances that she doesn’t get as a slayer

My biggest recommendation having completed it: I found that the majority of the bosses were not immune to being blinded. The Inquisitor, could be blinded, couldn't summon as many blades. Myrkul, could be blinded, couldn't use his legendary action. So on and so on. Hunger of Hadar was a clutch spell as a result because it blinded like fog cloud and darkness but also added difficult terrain making it hard to get out of. Blinding bosses is your best friend.

I might take another look at the blindness spell as well then since it lasts 10 turns and doesn't require concentration so it pretty much remains for the whole time.
@Nathanorwhatever

@@CasualVeteranGamer It does, but it requires a save to blind them. Hunger of Hadar blinds them regardless of if they make a save as the save is for the damage

@@Nathanorwhatever true that, but blindness is available earlier and for more classes. Hunger of Hadar is still amazing. I just destroyed Raphael by comboing Hunger with Insect plague, slow, and a berserker throwing Nyrulna. @Nathanorwhatever
@Nathanorwhatever 6 ай бұрын
@@thomashightower7881 I get it entirely. The only issue with blindness is it is a save or suck spell, and those are rough in honor mode. You could use a second level spell and get nothing at all, and those loss of resources in honor mode can be the difference of life or death. I’d rather Darkness even for the same reason, the blind. I know it costs concentration, but I’d rather have to concentrate than waste a spell slot

I think the hardest part of honour mode is act 1 when you’re only level 1-3. Those first few levels you don’t have many abilities or HP so it’s really easy to die. Best to avoid any fighting until at least level 4-5

I knew the harpies would be a sh** show so I just left one party member back at camp to rez and picked them off one by one. Everything in the creche is easily solved with barrelmancy. While my current playthrough is on Tactician, and I doubt I'll ever try Honor mode, I found this really interesting. Our youngest son got his gold die by sacrificing Gale at the end, after also skipping a few of the Act 3 fights, and talking his way through much of Act 2. I plan on a Lore Bard at some point, so interested in your build recommendation. This is a great overview.

I didn't know bg3 ran in your family, congratulations to your son! I've finished honour mode a second time and took on all the bosses in all the acts. From my experience they weren't really much more difficult compared to tactician, but I did have a swords bard 10/fighter 2, which did loads and damage and control. There's little to get wrong with a lore bard since cutting words is useful for any party. I'd pick control spells where possible. Hold person and the level 4 and 5 control spells did a lot of heavy lifting in my second playthrough. I even took command for one of my magical secrets at level 10, but that's because I had the ring of mystic scoundrel so I could use it as a bonus action. Perhaps one of the races that gives you medium armour proficiency would be good to help make up for the generally lower AC of lore bards. You can get that from a feat too, but having either resilient: constitution or warcaster, plus charisma at 20 eats up the feats already.

I think the hardest part of honour mode for me as when it was released on xbox, I had not played the game at all, so my first run being honour mode is near the end of act 3 having made all these mistakes because I just didn’t have meta gaming knowledge, I have restarted a new honour mode which is me going through trying to achieve the outcomes I wanted because I wasn’t prepared for certain types of rolls. While I want to gold dice which can be achieved easily on my first run since everyone has their kit, a part of me wants to complete the game with a run that I am more-so proud of. Each run has no save scumming but definitely the meta-gaming knowledge is powerful to when you have a dire roll coming up so you make sure you have all your inspiration. The biggest help being a sorcerer my favourite build is 1 tempest cleric / 11 sorc with white dragon bloodline, love ice spells in this game. I would use ‘shovel’ summon so much to engage fights so the enemies are surprised.

Im almost through my honor mode run but i have some solid advice from my game so far and previous runs. In act 1 wait on any big fights until you are level 4-5 and have things like elixirs, and potions, it never hurts to over prepare for a fight you are unsure about Sabotage where you can, in moonrise you can easily kill off people like zrell and many more when they split up, like when zrell leaves to her room you can easily get a surprise on her (and her ogre if shes there) and take out a tough opponent early on, this can also work in the creeche in the secluded rooms If you really want extra safety and buffs use hireling clerics to get things like prot from poison, death ward, warding bond, aid, these buffs help BIG at any part of the game Then the rest is just other common things like use your potions and elixirs, use your spells, USE YOUR ARROWS, and how surprised is insanely amazing. Edit: summons can also be amazing for soaking damage, croud control, and having juuust a bit more dps, Elementals can help a bunch with enemies with weaknesses and the create undead spell is underrated.

i one shot so many bosses as a githyanki blade warlock in the early game. Just cast darkness on top of an unsuspecting field enemy like ethel, or the goblin camp true souls, instantly go turn based mode after casting darkness. I believe in the Terrorist mode Satchel bomb for some bosses in Honor Mode like the inquisitor. Stuff explosives into satchel, box, or barrel. Calculate damage based on Boss HP using minimum value and apply P for Plenty. Get one person to throw the bag, box, or barrel which will hopefully break. Then apply fire liberally and watch boss melt first round as the explosives detonate.

I am in Act 3 on my 50 or so hour Honour mode play through. I will attempt all the bosses. I've not done most of Act 3 prior so I am excited yet nervous to see what I'll encounter. I have a lot of the same escape contingencies as you do. Every character has a misty step scroll, potion of invis, fly etc only to be used if stuff goes horrendously wrong. I use Shadow heart much like how you do, she spams debuffs but also goes into the thick of it with spirit guardians rather than bless. My Wyll is a Pally/Cleric healer who gives bless using the ring when he heals. My tav is a Gloomstalker/bard/thief focuses on ranged DPS but is a potential spell caster if disarmed. Last but not least is Karlach, a WH-Bear Barb/OpenHand Monk/Thief. Bear WH for all the resistances, Thief for extra BA which goes well with OpenHand Monk. - I sacrifice the cleanse of fear/frighten/charm in exchange for 1 extra BA. In the long-run, it is worth it.

The alert feat was SO useful in HM. I'm probably going to finish Act 3 over the weekend and so far respeccing Astarion into a rogue/bard hybrid and giving everyone Alert were the most obvious lifesaving tweaks I made for the run. Having a maxed transmute wizard hireling in camp to roll bonus pots for all my alchemy was also brilliant. Haste spore grenades are gold. I have no idea why everyone is so incredibly obsessed with haste pots and spells when you can use the grenade and NOT GET FATIGUE!! They are SO good for the biggest fights. They even hang around for a few turns and the whole party can just run back through them to reapply haste! SH as a life cleric was also game changing, especially in early game and the end of Act 3. I found the leaving one in camp worked well until about mid Act 2, and then I definitely found I felt more and more gimped without the 4th person, and there are a few fights from end Act 2 onward that physically won't let you begin combat without the full party present. To be honest, because I was concentration more on survival than the story for the first time ever, I found myself getting bored in prolonged fights, so having a full part kept me engaged.

I'm about 50 hours in for my first honor mode playthrough. I'm doing all bosses and I'm not doing any fancy build. Archfey Warlock Tav (I know it's the worst Warlock, I really don't care), Thief Astarion, Wild Magic Karlach and Trickery Shadowhart. I really feel like you don't need any fancy build to make the game easy. Generally, good strategy, good items and Tadpole powers is enough to make the game a breeze. I've managed to talked to death most of Act 2 and I used all 3 Runepowder barrels on fights I was scared of (Inquisitor and Sharrans so far, saving the last). No camp buff. Not summoning a thousand summons. Not any party member at camp, but I almost never started fights with my four characters. Astarion with Alert would try to kill at least one character, then my stealthed party would enter combat one by one.

I think one of the most powerful things was passing all the checks on the Zaith'isk since some of the powers are very good as a bonus action. It doesn't matter what class or race you are, being able to use black hole followed up by some AoE solves many fights I feel. In my second run I killed all the bosses like you and didn't leave anyone in camp. I did have summons but that was mostly to give a circle of the spores druid a proper go for once!
@Griffex394
@Griffex394 6 ай бұрын
@CasualVeteranGamer I totally agree that the Zaith'isk is the most powerful thing in the game and will carry any party on any difficulty. The only reason not to use the tadpole powers is roleplay and theme. I kinda miss the consequences from using them in Early Access, but I understand that it made people miss most of the story is they didn't use them.

I think I agree, like you said, the difficulty isn't really that much worse, I think what kills most runs is when someone hits a game breaking bug (I did when I accidently aggro'd the Oathbreaker Knight, almost ended my run because he can hard lock your character level). There is a lot of discussion around party comp, but I think it's more flexible than you expect, if youre having troubles, stick to using builds created around sharpshooter / GWM / tavern brawler. Just try to include Bless and Haste at all times, ensure that if you're playing a spell caster, you're not trying to unironically be a damage dealer and that you're bringing at least 4 swords bards if you don't want to clear moonrise towers slower than a single round. Also the early game is much harder than any other part of the game, try to delay fighting stuff like the harpies or paladins or Tyr until after you get just 1 more level. Like you wouldn't expect it, but those Intellect Devourers on the beach can seriously mess you up if you stumble in there without all finding all your party members.

Something extremely cheesy that I found useful in my Honor Mode run is that if you turn invisible in turn-based mode then walk as far as you can, then flicker turn-based mode off and on again quickly, you'll get your action, bonus action, and movement speed back without spending a "turn" of invisibility. Useful if you want to stealth past a large section to avoid any fights with worrying about invisibility's time limit. Used this to bypass the fight with Z'rell in Moonrise before Kethric Thorm and skip most of Gortash's guards after destroying the Steel Watch.

Overall, I found HM doable without resorting to cheesing my way through. I rotated characters in and out of the party for specific encounters. Act 3 in general seemed easier, since you have more tools and can pick up a lot of good gear before tackling the bosses (except for the bugged Cazador in Hotfix 16). Bhaalist Armour was fun with a group stacking piercing damage. Also, you still get HM credit for blowing up Gale in the final battle (NOT in Act 2).

One thing I am doing is respecing my benched companions into DoLife Clerics / bards and using their spell slots/ songs of rest for intermittent healing and cleansing of unwanted conditions. This means I was able to make most of A1 and A2 on just a couple of long rests and then the mandatory long rests. Death ward is also good. I just finished my first Honor Mode run as a storm sorcerer. One tip I would add: Take full advantage of the hireling system. It costs 100 gold to buy a hireling and 100 to respec them. You can pickpocket the money you pay to Withers and get it back every time. He doesn't care and never aggros. I only had one hireling, but here's how I built her: I hired the halfling girl for the Halfling Luck passive. I started her as a life cleric with 16 con and 16 wis, made sure to take proficiency in Medicine. Then one level of rogue. Put expertise in Medicine. Then 2 levels of wizard (transmutation) for the Experimental Alchemy passive, which lets you get 2 potions every time you craft one if you pass a DC 15 wisdom check. As I leveled up, I put the rest of her levels into cleric and put ability score improvements into Constitution. She was my alchemist and buffer. Any time I wanted potions crafted, I'd have her cast Enhance Ability: Wisdom on herself to get advantage on the Medicine checks, and I'd either give her Guidance with the amulet or have Shadowheart cast it on her. She never failed the medicine check a single time, so I always got doubles whenever I had her craft potions and elixirs for me. I ended up with more health potions than I could use, and enough elixirs of giant strength (hill and cloud) to last my TB monk Lae'zel the entire game. Well, once the vendors started selling giant fingers anyway. I also used her to cast the following buffs in camp: - Mage armor on me - Longstrider on everyone in camp - Warding Bond on me - Protection from Poison on me - Aid (at the highest possible spell slot) on me and as many other companions as I could get in range - Aid (at the next highest spell sot) on as many other companions as she could get in range Then I'd leave her in camp. None of these buffs are concentration and they all last until your next long rest, so they stayed up even with her in camp. With Warding Bond up all the time I constantly had resistance to all damage types and with her high constitution my halfling girl could withstand the punishment of taking half of any damage I did receive. Another thing you can do with a hireling: Hire any of them and spec them into Eldrich Knight. Have your front linger give them your favorite weapon and let them use Bound Weapon on it, then it give back to your tank/melee damage dealer. The Bound property sticks. Now your main melee character has cannot be disarmed and has a weapon that will return to them when they throw it. This is probably a bug that will be patched out of the game later, but for now it works and is awesome. I really hate when my paladin gets disarmed by an enemy fighter, and this little bit of cheese lets you avoid that. Finally, if you're using a returning throwing weapon (returning pike, dwarven thrower, nyrulna), and for some reason it doesn't return, don't worry. You can run to where it is and pick it up, but DON'T equip it again. That wastes your turn. Instead, just throw it. It will automatically get equipped by your throwing character again when it returns to them.

I haven’t actually beat the game once, even in balanced. But I am now trying honour mode to get the dice (and achievements). It was quite hard at times and had some people die, and eventually after a few hours (quite many) I’ve now turned up on the doorstep of Ketheric Thorm. So I’m also really scared for those fights, but I’ll see how that goes😅.

My personal tips is this: Run Assassin Rogue + Fighter with Sharpshooter. If you're playing a non-Durge character, make sure you swap out characters often just to ween off Inspiration from them, as the Durge Background practically ensures you have main character rolls unless you want to do something stupid. Otherwise, you could take out a lot of people and still be viable in late game beyond support if you play things right. Stealth and initiative will always be your strongest aspects regardless of the situation. Always protect the tieflings, particularly Rolan. He can be a massive help in taking out key targets like Mindflayers, along with Voss' dragon, if you do his entire side-quest. They are the most powerful summons you can get in the final battle. Haste and the Dash exploit are your best friends. Dash several times before starting turn-based mode on the character you need at their fastest, then proceed to have everyone else dash. Pre-cast Haste if you can before heading into any major battle; that one extra attack can be vital towards winning. Don't go light armor. Instead, go medium/heavy so you can nullify crits without having to mess with your damage output. You can get your entire team immune to crits if you do both Grym and Ansur for the adamantite and Balduran's Helmet in particular. Don't worry about AC; the game adds the enemy's proficiency modifier twice to their attack rolls, so taking out your enemy and being crit immune is the way to go. Have the healing caster of the group have at least one level in Wizard, and kill the Ogres in act 1. They stop being useful once outside of the Underdark or at the Creche, so it is far better to kill them during battle, or get them killed. Personally, I throw them at the mephits. You free up an extra slot for martial power by having the healing caster use Headband of Intellect where needed to increase the spell variety. And finally: Learn Act 3 well. Act 3 is single-handedly the most dangerous part of the game. It's better to overprepare and play as cheaply as possible in order to win any major encounter, even if it might kill PCs or NPCs. A whole guide could easily be made on how to dominate Act 3, but that'd ruin the fun of learning how to win in Honor Mode.

I am surprised you weren't using a camp transmutation hireling for the stone that gives you essentially the resilient constitution feat, casts longstrider/dark-vision etc. and then just remains behind without wasting any spellbook slots on Gale.

I'm in act 2 of my honor mode playthrough. And I've been abusing everything at my disposal. A dedicated hireling for alchemy, 4 life clerics in camp to warding bond my party, and after level 7 freedom of movement is a nice bonus. One of them is Gale, since he just outright heals when outside of the party, making a lot of damage just disappear. My frontline is a Githyanki Paladin/Fighter/Warlock and Astarion as a Monk(TB, with elixir). My Backline is Wyll as a Lore Bard and Shart as a Light Cleric. My strategy is to kill stuff before it gets dangerous and using reactions when necessary. Like cutting words and improved warding flare. Inquisitor W'war'gaz got taken out in one round. I usually just long rest when the warding bond disappears because somebody is dead. 2k+ worth of supplies are going to last me the entire game at this point. And I've also been abusing stuff like selling a backpack to a vendor that I know I am going to kill. So when they die, I get all the money they had on them. I've not been short of coin at any point after level 3. But Ethel for some reason screwed me over. While I was rolling to get her hair, the animation canceled and the fight resumed so I had to kill her. No hair means I will have to get lucky with the mirror, giving me +1 charisma and another +2, so I can have my 22 charisma by the end. I don't want to restart the run. I don't like playing through act 1. Everything before the Underdark feels like a slog and the underdark and Grymforge are over to soon.

Been getting some real mileage out of my camp clerics in act 1 so far. Currently level 4 and finally defeated the goblins, and am now inching my way through the Underdark. I'm pretty sure I would have tpk'd several fights if I didn't have Warding Bond on all of my main party members thanks to the camp clerics. Also, Honor Mode has forced me to learn and take advantage of utility and debuff spells. Spider Matriarch was way easier to handle once I hit her with Blindess and Bane (also helped that I re-initiated that battle from the pathway from the blacksmith basement).

Im all about druid, and i must say. Summons in this game, make a key role in Honour Mode. They tank damage and dish damage. They are crucial in making enemies that would one shot you, lose a turn to kill a 9hp summon, or when u push back an enemy and he agro you, they need to pass to a horde of summons with atack of oportunity. Hell even the weakest summon can reach near 50hp with aid + heroes rest. A Spore Druid can summon natural, 4 9hp undead, 3 undead from spell, 1 mymidon, 1 minor elemental duo or the ent and dryad. That is 10 summons who with a cleric can became stronger. Algo crusader mantle works with the undead archers for more damage. But the best undead is the flying ghouls who work perfectly with water mymidon atacks that prone enemies on ice, and druid atacks that also prone enemies. You can also go necromancer who will make stronger summons. The 3 partie member and 1 at camp can be done easy with this setup as you will have many summons. Mostly i have 5 chars i really like. My main druid lvl 12. Karlach 5 berserk 3 champion 4 thief throw, with two itens that summons a mummy and an undead archer for more summons Astarion 4 thief 5 gloom stalker 3 champion dual hand crossbows, tons of damage. Shadowheart 12 cleric with all orb combos, as light cleric and summoning herself some undead and an deva*important cause he can help and revive party members* ac 21 and tons of health, also she mostly wield the falar aluve to battle making every single summon deals more damage. Gale Ice 12 wizard abjuration He can protect himself and others for plenty damage, as well debuff greatly people with ice spells. He will do good damage, but not as great as an eletric wizard. But the deal is he will debuff greatly and frooze most of enemies. Other builds i did for the sake of having all companions was jahera 7 spore druid 5 gloom stalker dual wield scimitars, she would dish 40 damage per scimitar hit, was very good with lots of spell options minsc 8 hunter 4 berserk pole arm master with item combo about healing and tanking. He had fenomenal health and was the one who would tank all damage because the item setup. Wyll 8 warlock 4 fighter Mostly focused on the eldrich blast with the correct itens was 40+ damage per hit laezel the one i could not build correct still trying and testing something that feat her character as well combo well in the game with itens/history. I mostly equip her with balduran sword because is better than the silver legendary Helsin was a moon druid, tryed to grab every item to he became strong but moon druids only can be strong if u supp a lot with stuff like bond skills. They can became good, also dont forget he is almost a full druid, so, tons of summons and lots of good spells.

I just completed my honour run yesterday (good durge, 7 oathbreaker/5 drac. sorcerer for armor of agathys shenanigans, Astarion as 8 gloomstalker/4 thief, Gale 10 abj. wiz./2 storm sorc., and Shadowheart as 10 life cleric/2 bard). The hardest boss for me was Mirror of Loss, as i couldn't get the ability improvement for any of my characters, not even Gale LUL. But for real, the most scary fight was the giths in act1 on the road leading to the next act, and Myrkul. Low initiative rolls put the mind flayer first, he came down and stunned EVERYONE in the party, killed my ice mephits, which damaged my party even further. Then Myrkul pulled everyone in, and downed Astarion, who was by that time my biggest dmg dealer with the double xbow action and bloodlust elixir on him. So that was a debby downer to say the least, i was about to kiss good bye to my honour run, but powered thru eventually by just playing out of my mind and to my strengths. Killed every boss in act2 and act3 as well, 1 char downed twice, zero deaths, had a lot of fun by upping the stakes. This was my 4th overall run, so i definitely learned a lot from my previous experiences. Was rocking the reverberation/radiating orb combo gear sets with ability drain mind flayer powers unlocked, which really helped on landing cc effects even on bosses. Really good video btw. i'd recommend it to anyone doin honour mode for the first time!

I did honour in like 15-20 hours fairly easy, just know your class powerspike(5-6 generally). You can up to level 4 with no fights. Convince bandits, clear goblins near grove(fight but with allies), mask as drow and go to goblin village, goblins will share a ton of exp, mask as gith and convince gith patrol to spare you, discover underdark and convince duergars, go to mage tower in underdark and convince bernard u're friend. Should give you about 4.5 level, so rest should be manageable relatively easy

Something important for Act 1 is to run out of enemy range and shoot them with bows. Even martial classes cant do too much damage at melee and avoiding a couple of attacks by using a bow and running back 9m is key. This is especially important before level 5 where a few attacks down you

my tips: Most bosses (raphael, Gortash, etc) can be stunlocked via Monk or summoned/druid Air mymydon Darkness builds cheese everything (hide your party in darkness with devil sight/darkness/blind equipment) CPU goes braindead and sometimes doesn't even act. The elder brain will kill itself via a well place Danse Macabre ghoul spawn right on them (i think this did something like 150 damage for me when they died/exploded) if all else fails and you really wanna cheese it and are on PC. open task manager and force quit the game. itll load back to your last save location. (quitting game or any other method will cause auto save to overwrite it) It is defeating the purpose of honor mode and you probably will risk corrupting your save by doing it but i guess its all or nothing anyway.

At this point, there are only a few variables that really scare me in honour mode. Doing the spider boss below lvl5 which is why I don't, somehow getting cucked by Ragzlin's repulsion, Nere's goons who almost got me once even though I was cheesing them from a ledge. Myrkul in act 2, unless you blind him which I didn't know until recently... he's so goddamn rng. Even with barrelmancy and heat metal to remove his scythe attacks, sometimes you will just miss attacks, get screwed by Call of the Dead and all of a sudden you're struggling for hp. I've never actually lost to Myrkul in the 4 HM fights I've had with him but I got awfully close twice. Act 3 is mostly a breeze, rush lvl12, beat the crap out of Raphael, steal his stuff and you're good to go... except Cazador. I don't understand that boss, and it's oh so fun to take 200 necrotic damage and then some turn 1 before getting to act because he outsped my entire squad, 3 of which had the vigilant feat. I must be missing something because in my 2 fights with him, I had to reset the first time after killing his goons, and I just lost the Astarion the second time because he RAISED HIM FROM DEATH to force his last stack of ritual while I was again, trying to reset because I got assblasted. I was so salty when that happened I just moved on from Cazador. Funnily enough, I've never completed a HM run without losing someone somewhere, I always fuck up a quest at some point.

Only real trouble I had was early game Gnolls, Ethel in Act 1 and Ansur. 4 Rage Barbs till 4 for double attack, temp 4 wizards and cloud daggers to deal with gnolls, at 5 cleric/druid cheese on Ethel, rest of game was 4 monks. Ansur, 1 life cleric and 3 wizards. Actually almost died to ansur tbh, had to use resist all elixirs and big heal pots and standing next to each other to aoe heal mid fight, but got it. Back to 4 monks for rest of game. Reason I did 4 monks for the vast majority of the game was simply because I got so bored of constantly long resting as wizards and having to rebuff. I didn't long rest even once during all of shadowlands.

Deva mace main weapon and Air Myrmidon Flail in the off hand, because the Air Myrmidon Flail is glitched, its attack that stuns on hit for some reason works from the off hand as if its the main hand weapon. This means that the deva mace deals 1d8+str blud+4d8 radiant+1d10 lightning and stuns for each of the fighters attacks (except off hand, which deals 1d8 blud)

Making Astarian a gloomstalker straight to 5 for the early game is incredibly powerful. I used Titanstring with elixers and sharpshooter aswell as giving him the deathstalkers mantle. In honor mode I found my self doing three cheeses that I had never done before: respect to 1 before donating to a vendor to get 100% attitude for less money; stealing my donations back from Withers; and pickpocketing Volo every long rest. Cloak of Cunning Brume is worth having to help pickpocket Withers and Volo in camps with 0 risk. Edit: I also had two camp buffers - a wizard for transmuted stones and a cleric for aid and feast etc. It was probably overkill since my optimized party at act 3 just walked all over the bosses.

I was a bit stressed about Raphael on honor mode. His legendary action lets him charm anyone who hits him, 4 times per round. I found though, if you knock him prone, he can’t utilize it. So, started the fight with a throw barb’s frenzied throw, and immediately knocked him prone. Proceeded to attack with my hasted/bloodlust elixered 2fighter/10 swords bard archer. Oil of combustion+hellfire gauntlets for fire dmg + many targets arrow, and I decimated most of his mobs. If you’re lucky you can proc a low chance planar binding on him too, and have him deal with his own minions lmao You’re right about taking alert, it really gives you that edge in the opening rounds, especially if you have high dps ranged or condition proccing team. I had my 2/10 fighter bard, minthara as a light cleric/paladin rocking all the radiant gear to give aoe -10 to attack and ability rolls for enemies, then astarion as a typical hand crossbow ranger/rogue, and lae’zel as a EK/zerker/thief

I've defeated all the bosses the same way, Extended Bestow Curse: Dread. My lore bard had DC 29, and if they have Magic Resistance feat (advantage on rolls vs spells) they only get advantage versus the first cast, the roll each turn to skip turn they don't get advantage. And it is not affected by Legendary Resistance. And if they save, the effect doesn't end (unlike hold monster), they just get one turn. Each turn skip is a one turn effect, so Raphaels ability to shake off CC after 1 turn does nothing. Raphael did nothing for 30 turns (I let Yurgir hit him to death, could have won that fight without dealing any damage).

I am the only one who found abusing summons made a lot of the fights easier, if you have Wyll summon elements, Cambion, Mummy, etc. a druid who would summon a bunch of stuff, then wild shape (owl bear with tavern brawler is so broken especially levels 6-9) it made fights quite easy). Essentially, you have a party of like a 10+ characters, Plus, you can hero feast everything later too when your Druid is level 11.

My tips for Honour Mode: Become an Unholy Assassin to help counter Orin's unstoppable. Kill her then take the deal with Gortash. Sneak through the Watcher Foundry to get the bow but don't destroy the factory. Gortash won't aggro and you can let the Netherbrain take him out.

A very cheesy strategy that worked for me to acquire the golden die: - Reach level 3 with Fletriss at your camp. - Respec all your unused companion into life clerics. - Every new day, dismantle your group and group the clerics so that you can buff your party with poison protection, death protection, a binding buff that splits the damage taken between the target and the cleric, and finally the help buff (+5 to 25HP on every character). - You can buff 3/4th of your party this way and it becomes really difficult to lose any encounter. You may finish a day and discover one or two dead or agonizing cleric at your camp (I spent most of my reviving scrolls on them, I'd say about a dozen, so you should always buy some until you have a comfortable amount (i.e. 6+)).

No need to use scrolls, you can always pickpocket Withers and he doesn't get mad when you fail.

Im pretry sure you can always have one character be chilling way outside of the range of everyone else: if you get a party wipe, that 4th character can go back to Witherd to being everyone back to life.

Orin was hard on honour mode. I used to breeze through her without even having to rest. But now she oneshotted my fighter on round 1. I had to use a scroll of globe of invulnerability and chain lightning on the sanctuaried adds.

Took me four goes in total I believe. The first I died to the injured mindflayer as I got a bad roll and it ate my brain. Second, I died to Bernard. Third, the Minotaurs. However, after act one the game was easy. All i did was collect as much exp with minimal danger as possible. My builds werent super optimised, BM fighter, Light Cleric, Evocation Wizard and a Thief to 11 with 1 in GOO. Ended up killing a lot of act 3 bosses but not all. I clicked the wrong Gortash option after killing Orin without a long rest between, and ended up killing him in one turn. At that point the team was far too powerful for that nonsense. Just Galed it at the end. I think the difficulty of the game drops off, IF you know what you are doing as the equipment available is just too good.

Honour mode was my first playthrough ever, and I managed to beat the game with it. It was absolutely great experience, because I actually tried to live the actions, since every fatal move or even dialogue option could've meant that ~100h playthrough just flushes down the toilet with one simple choice. That being said, even though it was great experience, I feel like Act1 was hardest, act2 not so much and act3 not at all - it's not great design that way :/

If you save the teethlings in the grove and invite them over to the camp, AVOID AT ALL COSTS using Friends to roll for ANYTHING. One dude realized I was using MAGIKS, opened combat with no dialogue options and the ENTIRE CAMPMENT went ballistic on my party, including Halsin. With nowhere to flee and no rest in my skills I was left to a bitter taste on my first honour run.

I decided to minimise RNG, so I ran 2 divination wizards. Guaranteed CC, hit every vital attack, didn't even need a healer in my party.

What's better than 2 divination wizards? 4! Jokes aside, minimising randomness is a very good thing for honour mode.

I had a frustrating death against Orin (not loss, just death). This was after Karlach got pushed off a cliff and I had to revivify and heal her - that was just me being careless where I was standing. No, the frustrating death was when Laezel got the Bhaal’s Edict effect where she had to kill someone or die that turn. I had used a few black holes and had all the bhalists with sanctuary grouped up and AoE’ed them so that only 2 were left. I waited for Laezel’s turn and had her cast cloud of daggers from a scroll… which did kill a cultist. So I was happy. Then I hit space and Laezel died to the edict anyway. Anybody know why? It didn’t matter as I revivified her and Orin was toast once the unstoppables were down, but it was still frustrating.

The only two hard fights for act three were shars justiciars and steel watch. You can beat the others easily and if you hit 12 before ending the game your guaranteed a win because there's no way you lose doing maximum damage assuming you played through the game once and know what to expect the legendary actions only hit early on and can end badly but at act 3 they don't mean anything they just prolong a fight rather than trying to end it in a loss

Portent die that can be refreshed and magical secrets from lore bard is a good combo. Reduces RNG, provides access to cutting words to make enemies fail important saves, and an amazing spell list.

I've had 4 Honour Mode attempts die before ever getting out of Act 1. (Gnolls, Gnolls, Spiders, Gnolls) Apparently, I'm not nearly as good at D&D as I thought I was, and I absolutely f*cking despise those damn Gnolls! 😂

Something to add trying it on console, of the game crashes the run is over. Even when it appears to be okay, it treats hard resetting as if you are trying to cheese and will ruin the run.
