They were an amazing ska band. Their first album they don’t make basketball shorts like they used to was GREAT! It was disappointing to see them let the horn section go in order to adopt a more mainstream sound ESPECIALLY because one of the saxophone players was their biggest supporter and was always the one out promoting them at the shows before they were signed. I was a huge fan and they had a huge following and I imagine those other fans have just as little respect for them as I do.
@ericlane8077Ай бұрын
Dude...I know exactly how you feel. Used to see them in the late 90's/early 2000's and they were SOOOO good. As a bassist, Markku was always my focus and he did not disappoint. Educated Fool, Naked Jock Man, Karma Patrol, Can I buy you a drink, Earthsick. Dude got down on slap/funk/jazz, then the major label releases came out. I like how almost anywhere where Markku is mentioned leaving the band it was over creative differences & he was too aggressive a player for the sound direction they were moving towards. He got to write unreal bass parts, then it went to just playing root eighth notes. I can't even imagine how much that bummed him out, to the point where he was no longer contributing a unique & difficult bass sound that was his own but was instead now playing parts that even a beginning bassist could contribute. I would've bailed, too. That scenario would blow. I get you're making money, but you're also abandoning your creative freedom.
