Come on Critic. This movie was a master piece. It had everything a good party for DnD should have. The normal RPG player, who wants to be the underdog hero. The nerdy RPG Player who is always going by the numbers and plays mage. The new guy, whose getting on everybodys nerves. The guy, who only joined the party to drink for free at a friends house. The smirky and mysterious dude, who always tries to insert his own ideas and disrupts the DM. The bored girlfriend who got dragged along and has to fill in for a missing player. The guy who tries to act cool but ends up being strange and dry. And finally the guy who has to overplay the crazy villain. Everthing is here. From the half-assed story, over the clicheed players, to the "players are to bad, insert confiniend plot device too drag out an obviously lost game" DM actions. Its brilliant. ^^

(example: evry Kristen Steward roles) Overacting: Can be Cringy or sometimes funny to watch because they look like total buffoon (example: Nicolas Cage's bee scene in the Wicked man). In that case Jeremy irons's overeacting is way better to hear than Thora Birch's underacting. Point close

This is brilliant if you see it as an actual group of new players playing their first round of actual d&d. Bad comparison considering the difference in time between the movies. not to mention even if the cgi is meh, cgi looks better in an all cgi film because then at least the creatures and locations match the people so it blends better. better comparisons would be like how real the dinosaurs looked in Jpark compared to the dragons...feels like, with a few exceptions, everything that came after jurassic park looked like shit for a long time..and still sometimes do (its not perfect, but amazing how well those effects hold up imo)

Another better comparison would have been that, according to what critic said near the beginning, this movie came out a single year before lord of the rings. thats just...wow. i mean DnD at tis core was inspired HEAVILY by tolkein. lord of the rings could basically be called "dungeons and dragons: the movie" and it wouldn't be inaccurate. to learn these things coming out only 1 year apart is staggering

Honestly, I hadn't watched this movie until after I started playing D&D, and it reminded me of some of the goofy campaigns that my friends would come up with. It's a little more endearing if you think of it that way. It's just some teenager nerd's campaign, complete with every cliche that you can think of. It even becomes somewhat enjoyable at times like that.

Enviornmental kill. On one hand the DM is happy the players are being clever, creative and willing to think outside the box... but for the most part it's just that one guy (or gal) where you know his "Can I roll for Perception?" is followed by "Would that work?".

@AlluMan968 жыл бұрын
Or better yet, just record a D&D game between Hollywood bigshots. Screenplay writer's the DM, Director's the co-DM and then you just gather a "cast" to play the game, maybe cutting in and out between dramatized enactments of what's going on in the game's world. With some amazing improv talent on-board, that could be something worth watching, at least for a direct-to-video project.

To be fair... I think that the overactive is WANTED in this film XD it's so spread out that it's impossible that was entirely accidental. D&D it's not meant to be taken seriously after all... and I think that this film follows that line, the so called "rule number 0: you are here for the fun". And this movie IS fun, cheesy and all.. just like a game of D&D with friends, one of the less serious anyway. It's good to just decide to f*** around once in a while, after all. Not every fantasy needs to be Lotr after all. Plus, EVERY actor is a cliché of the pg and npg of the game XP Since, again, this is taken as a D&D game made film, the personality are made in the same way.

This is exactly why i do not agree with Critic about this movie. The movies was basically made by D&D nerds FOR D&D nerds. Of course it's weird and looks bad. If he ever sat through a honest to god campaign he would see WHY the movie is this way. It just like a D&D campaign and I have been playing D&D for over 18-19 years years. Sometimes your players will derail a story, sometimes the DM has to make shit up on the fly. Sometimes shit just goes nuts because of magic, because magic is fucking nuts in the D&D world (AND DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON MAGIC OF THE FAE. JESUS @_@).

Funny thing is.......in D&D anyone CAN be a mage, it is being a sorcerer that is based on bloodline/random chance (yes, for those not in the know, there IS a difference). Heck, the closest thing that i can think of similar to this is Thay in the forgorren realms setting, and the mages that rule there have little to do with that they are mages and more to do with the fact they are immoral, evil, jerks willing to do anything to keep their power. They even have a school anyone who shows prowess and a lack of morals can go to to learn magic, including necromancy. made even funnier...when a lot of teh crazy stuff like the earwax rape and magic mirrors and quicksand rug......are perfectly normal for D&D.....

Why do I feel like this movie missed everything that makes Dungeons and Dragons awesome? Like seriously, aesthetic, story style, world depth, story depth, characters, everything! (And yes I know a D&D campaign can be different for every group, but I'm just going off the core rule books here!)
@nvfury137 жыл бұрын
Yeah, why would a two hour movie have less development than a campaign stretching over dozens if not hundreds of hours? Besides, ancient empire ruled by mages, hints of the far flung past wars with dragon armies, elves a separatist race, dwarves....well pretty default, showing that thieves are a major underground complex society, conspiracy and alliances with monsters. I mean there was barely anything to this setting!

Ok, the whole blue lip thing has gone unaddressed for far too long so I finally looked it up.
