Planting New Spring Flowering Trees! Magnolia Soulangeana and Yoshino Cherry Blossom Tree from Lowes

We recently took down a Thundercloud purple leaf plum tree as it had not rooted correctly, was leaning, had alot of deadwood, and was generally an unhealthy looking tree. In replacement of the 1 tree we took down, we planted 2 new trees! I have wanted an old fashion Magnolia Soulangeana for quite some time. However, I was never able to find one locally, until recently! So of course I just had to have it. A second tree was found on a trip to Lowes, a Yoshino Cherry tree. Our neighbor has one and its absolutely stunning! So when I came across one at a such a reasonable price, I had to bring it home. Come hang out with us while we determine placement of the trees, and get them planted. Bonus, there's some additional footage of the thundercloud coming down, and another tulip update! The two trees will look very lovely where you planted them. I loved the way you use the grass pieces, that is one way of not wasting the unused pieces of grass. Enjoy them and looking forward to seeing them growing and blooming. Have a wonderful day.

Both are beautiful & happy to read they are doing well. I love that you took inspiration from your neighbors tree & soon they will be happy to experience the same view they provided you. Now that I’ve downsized to the city I am still gardening but in containers. Even bought a Crimson dwarf cherry for my deck yesterday. Happy gardening!

Did you apply mulch or just soil on top? I was told to apply mulch but not to let it touch the tree. Also is there a recommendation how far these should be planted apart? I'm planting 15 of the yoshinos soon.

Hello, I just found your channel and browsing through your videos I definitely had to subscribe 😊 I do have a question, I purchased a Japanese Sakura tree this spring 2024 and it has grown almost a foot. It seems very happy. My question, I do not know when or how to prune it to keep the height lower than it will grow. I do know to prune spindly limbs and cross limbs, however the time of year it should be pruned and if I can prune the tops off without hurting the tree. Thank you so much for your amazing channel. I will be going through all of your videos to help me better in my garden 😊

Hi there, They are doing great. They made it through the winter, and have buds. The bloom show wont be spectacular since they are babies, but hopefully in a few years they provide a beautiful spring show. I just love the Yoshino cherry trees. Our neighbors is gorgeous right now! I always hear from Arborists it's best to only backfill with your native soil, and not backfill or mix with bagged or other organic matter.

I’ve been looking for a regular saucer magnolia (soulangeana) EVERYWHERE around my area and all people have is Ann or Jane. My only option is buying one online which sucks.

Hi Mary! I went through the same thing for a couple of seasons. I finally was able to find one at a local wholesale nursery. I was so excited. It is really difficult to order things, specifically plants and trees online. I've done it, but its not my favorite.

Pull that soil away from the tree, that will kill it, soil should be level, not touching the tree,

Hi there, while it may not look like it, the soil is level with the root flare. We didn't "volcano" the soil. We just tapered down for water to drain. Also because we planted slightly high to allow for settling.
