Hi there! Are you referring to the cobble stone? If so, there is a little bit of an update in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/apTdimWVorqahac We've been compiling footage of the work we've done in that back garden area, I will have a video on that process at some point by the end of the year. Thank you so much for your kind words, and for watching my videos.

Wow! You have such beautiful garden beds and a beautiful property. My husband and I can only dream of having such a beautiful space like yours. I've been gardening since 2016 and each year my skills improve BUT it would take me decades to get my beds/space looking like yours! You have a real gift so thank you for sharing and giving me inspiration. Can't wait for more videos and info!

Hi Serena! Welcome, and thank you so much for your kind words. It true that each year your skills improve. I've been gardening for 10 years in our garden now and we started from zero landscape as this was a new construction home at the time. You can see that in this video I made that I'll post at the end if this comment. But it takes many seasons to build gardens and its a lovely and rewarding process. Keep going 💚 kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2G7noqAnKllgLM

OK here's the deal with marigolds: I learned to sow these in the ground @7-years- old from my mother (who learned this from hers - Pennsylvania): after April 23 pick a spot that's going to get full sun, dig a little hole, sprinkle seeds into that hole then cover it, go about 8" to dig another hole, sprinkle, cover then completely ignore. This is the best way to sow marigolds.

A beautiful video to demonstrate how each of the garden beds transitioned through the seasons. It must have taken a lot of time and effort to put this together, Greatly appreciate it. The foxgloves were gorgeous. What was the variety? Maybe I should start lupin from seeds this spring.
@HookedandRooted
@HookedandRooted Жыл бұрын
Hi Seeta! Thank you, yes it did take alot of time, about 26 hours worth of editing. Thank you so much for your kind words and for acknowledging that. I enjoyed looking back at the gardens transition throughout the seasons. The foxgloves were Apricot beauty, however there were some purple ones in there also. So I do believe the seeds vary greatly if they are open pollinated. I ordered my Foxglove seeds from swallowtail seeds. If you start lupine this year, you may not see blooms until next year. Seems to be the case with most perrenials from seed. They grow foliage first year from seed, and second year we get blooms. Thanks for watching! 🌱

@HookedandRooted
@HookedandRooted Жыл бұрын
Hey there! I had to try several times before they finally took. What finally did it was winter sowing them. I believe they benefit from a season of cold (stratification) to grow best. The first year they were tiny plants with only foliage. Year 2 they took off. Dont give up! Also, they like poor soil with no fertilizing or amendments.
@missmrice91

Thank you. I will try them again

Steph, that was a fun and inspiring video! Your gardens looked beautiful throughout the year! Have you ever tried germinating the seeds produced from your hardy hibiscus or Japanese, or Siberian Iris? I saved seeds from my dark foliage hibiscus and Japanese Iris and was able to germinate them using the winter sowing method. If you decide to try this, patience is required because both took a long time to germinate. I didn't see any growth until the first part of June (when I was about to pitch those water jugs)! For my 2023 flower beds, I will experiment with growing seeds I saved from lantana, gomphrena, alliums, echinacea, and Japanese maples. Have a wonderful week! ~Margie🤗💚❄☃
@HookedandRooted
@HookedandRooted Жыл бұрын
Hi Margie!! I haven't tried growing those varieties from seed, however, this year when I was cutting back my hardy hibiscus, I stopped and took notice of how large the seed pods were and the thought crossed my mind. But in all honesty I don't have a spot for a new hibiscus at the moment. I would have been happy to pass along the seeds though. I have never tried lantana from seed, but that one is a pretty one and a polinator magnet! And well the gomphrena, you know how i feel about that one, all the heart eyes!! I have a japanese maple seedling that grew from a seed dropped from one of the surrounding maples, so those do work. I'm just not sure how true to parent varieties they will be. I'm sure a pretty tree/sapling none the less. Thank you so much for watching and for your great comments! Happy Holidays!!

Hi Amy, You could always replace it for something that you no longer enjoy, or that doesn't do too well in your garden. If I have a plant that I no longer enjoy, I try to pass it along to another gardener who may enjoy it more. Then it makes more room for plants that better fit my taste, or garden conditions.

One thing I’m going to do in spring of 2023 is start paying attention to rainfall early on to make sure my Bobos and everything is getting plenty of water from start of the growing season. This year Southcoast was in mild drought by April. I think my plants didn’t get as much water as they needed early on they just could never make it up. Anyway thanks for all the good ideas.
