Granny Squares are one of the most popular crochet projects around the world and throughout time. It is one of the most common projects that a beginner crochet will take on because there are so many things you can do with a granny square. If you are a beginner crocheter or even if you have been crocheting for awhile but haven't tried the granny square yet you will definitely want to give this project a go. You will be hooked.... Pun Intended.

Thank you so much for this simple tutorial! I was trying to crochet a different Granny square that was seamless like this one is, but it was just too confusing and complicated for me. I'm somewhere in between absolute beginner and advanced beginner. I say that because I can crochet your aligned puff stitches, but when it comes to something a bit more complicated (to me), I'll try to find a pattern, such as this one, and before I know it, I've learned how to do the Granny square. Thank you again for this tutorial.

Good question! With a granny square, we are working in rounds. Working around and around and never turning. The solid color can look similar to a Granny Stitch not a Granny Square. If that is a pattern you are looking for, I just released a video showing the Granny Stitch that you might want to watch. 😊💖🧶

Thank you for the feedback! It helps a lot! In the beginning you want to form a circle somehow. That could be a Magic Ring, a Chain 2 where you work inside the first chain, Or you could chain 4, slip stitch in the first chain and then work your stitches for round 1 inside the circle you made. I hope this helps! I'll look into making an updated version of this video. 😊

What do we do with the leftover strings on the squares?
@CrochetWithTiffany
@CrochetWithTiffany 8 ай бұрын
Great question! You will weave those in after you are all done with the project. This will create a beautiful and clean look. You might be tempted to crochet over you tails but I don’t recommend that. I use to crochet over my tails, and while it does hold at that time they rarely stay and the tail can often wiggle loose making your work look sloppy. Tails are not the most fun to weave in but it looks so good when you do! 🤗❤️🧶

Question: why put 3 chains at the beginning when using the same color, but put 2 chains at the beginning when changing color? Is there a differnce in the patern or am I just confused.
@CrochetWithTiffany
@CrochetWithTiffany 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kim! There is actually a big difference in how the granny square will be worked up if you are changing colors or if you are keeping the same yarn from row to row. When you finish off the round and chain to get to the next row or round you will see where it starts off and how you can't exactly work any stitches in that corner space. That is why I have you chain 3 which counts as your first Dc + chain 1. I hope this makes sense. 😊🧡🧶

Why do we leave strings to weave in?
@CrochetWithTiffany
@CrochetWithTiffany 10 ай бұрын
That is a great question. We leave strings to weave in so that we can secure and conceal them properly avoiding them coming out or undone. If you cut your yarn right next to a knot, that knot best be one that can't come undone because after one wash you will find your project falling apart. If you like to crochet OVER your ends, that is a great quick fix but unreliable. When I was a newer crocheter I would simply crochet over my ends, but then I found that my ends would make their way out of the stitches and look like little weeds all over my blanket or project. I even had some people I crocheted gifts for call me in a panic thinking their project was falling apart because after one wash a few of their ends poked out of the blanket. It was embarrassing. Yes, there are situations where crocheting over your ends is fine, such as stuffed animals or anything where you are working an extra tight stitch. But in most cases it is best practice to just weave in your ends (not just underneath the stitches and loops but actually try to poke your yarn needle between yarn threads so that the fibers cling to each other and hold better). I found that the weaving in style that works best for me is to start by weaving in one direction and then double back. I hope this helps answer your question and give you more information than just, because you should. 😊❤️🧶

It's always challenging when a fellow crocheter shares with you their opinion on what we are doing. There are many different ways to make something. First I want to say I'm proud of you for not given up. Projects are not always easy when you are first getting started. The best thing someone told ME when I was first getting started is that your first few project won't look perfect. And that's ok. You keep practicing and you get better. Let's double check you are working with materials that will be easiest to begin with. Try crocheting with a yarn that is a size 4 weight or Medium size and a crochet hook that is a size I/9-5.00mm. These bigger materials will make it easier to loosen your stitches and see that's going on. Work slowly, Counting is HUGE not only as a beginner but as a seasoned crocheter. Don't give up right away, try pushing through to round 4 or 5 before stopping and assessing. Sometime these granny squares do not take shape until you have worked a few rows. I also know some people who don't like working granny squares, it's just not the project for them. You could try working a regular square shape using rows if that would work best for now and then come back to granny squares after you have some practice under your belt. 😊❤️🧶

Hi ohslimgoody, I apologize if my video was going to fast. I first have a question and then I have a cool trick to show you. My question is, did you just start crocheting and have you gone through the basic steps and stitches to crochet? I did reference a video on how to do the Double crochet stitch to watch before hand so that you wouldn’t get frustrated. Gotta start with the basics. The cool trick! On the bottom of the video is a gear ⚙️. If you click on the gear and then click on Playback Speed you can actually slow down the video! Controlling the speed can help you to set it at your own pace. Hope this helps!

Hi Celia, sorry about that. Did you know that you actually have the ability to control how fast or slow my video plays? If you click the settings for the video, click Playback Speed, you can actually slow down my video to the speed that works best for you! Give it a try. Works on every video on KZbin. 😊❤️🧶

Hi Max. Did you know that YOU have the power to control the speed of my video? It is very challenging as a content creator to meet the speed needs of everyone. However, if you go to the settings of the video and click Playback Speed, you can speed me up or slow me down to whatever speed works best for you. I hope this helps! 😊🧡🧶
