Dennis, I've been woodworking for nearly 35 years and built 7 different shops because of moves. I'm now working on what I hope is my last shop build in a 2-car garage. Even with all my experience, I am truly inspired by you, your designs and the meticulous results you achieve. So much so, that I bought the Cam vac, Gweike laser printer and plans for your HEPA Silent Box. I just received my machine shipment from Harvey and will start assembly next week. I can't wait to get the machines running so I can get to the dust collection system. The most wonderful thing about woodworking is that there is always something new to learn. Thank you so much for sharing your fabulous work!

Really enjoyed your setup and video. It's wonderful to have the time to make everything as you want it. I went with a smaller system myself. Oneida supercell with three motors. I fixed the sound and air quality by keeping the unit in a purpose-built mech closet that keeps my shop quiet and no messes when I need to work on the extractor. I have 4 inch PVC running through the wall into the shop. I enjoy it and I don't lose space in the shop. I plan to eventually have my compressor in the closet as well.
@HookedonWood2 ай бұрын
Yeah, I think the Oneida supercell is a great choice. It is not available in Europe. I think the CamVac is a great budget friendly alternative. The advantage of the CamVac is that you can select the different motors seperately. I do not believe that is possible with the Oneida. Can you confirm this? All the best, Dennis
@arifwulf21612 ай бұрын
@@HookedonWood Oh, yes the ability to only use what you need is fantastic. No, Supercell only has a single magswitch which has proven tricky with my ivac auto switches. You need an additional part from ivac they don't tell you up front. If I had known about CamV I would have looked into it. As a remoder and custom carpentry contractor the time just working in my shop is so much more enjoyable than having to build for a living. 😂 Really enjoy your series. China tools is cool also. They get beaten up a lot but no one in north America bothers to do the kind of work they do. Everyone wants to get paid for being special and no hard work. I think they make some exceptional tools and are willing to try things no one is willing to do. Frankly I'm not paying Rockler, wood peckers or incra prices. I tend to do without it until I build something or I find someone like you testing things. Thank you!

Second your form and function comment. Regarding the "unobtainable", I'm thinking it's Dennis' *method* of work that enables him to achieve consistently good results. The way he presents his process is precisely what could enable the average Joe to achieve Dennis' level of work. And it's not about having expensive machines. Anyone can execute the milling Dennis demonstrates using a variety of tools and methods. One need only master the skills needed to shape material using the tools available. That's the fun of the journey and it's unique for each of us.

Hi Dennis, I'm in my workshop right now, and just realized that having an option to switch dust extraction from wood to plastic and other debris could be practical, so wood dust that can be recycled and other stuff that needs to be scrapped instead could go to different places. Would be nice to have, with your system (that I hope to be able to make a version of) it's easy enough to go from one type to another by switching the barrel but a secondary receptacle would be great, and exactly the sort of overkill I would expect from you 😂 A good example could be on a project where you ar working with both hardwood and black mdf

awesome video again Dennis. Did a quicl calculation based on the CamVac CGV386-6, so the 3 motor variant, with the filters and toggle clamp, no wood or laser cutter at £3000 + acrylic, and it comes to just over £1000. Not bad really considering, and whilst not within my budget, it could be for some. Loving the black MDF with the Silent filter black acrylic. Looks amazing.

You are right, but the CamVac starts decent from a price point of view, the rest are only upgrades you can place in time. It is not that the CamVac is an inferior machine. In fact, it is a very good base. I have a 4.500 Felder, but my 600 euro CamVac wins it in a 4 inch system. So, for those systems, it is just an awesome system and I do not think a hobbyist needs to go bigger than machines with 4 inch air outlets.

It looks like the motors run on normal 230V power. I have a suggestion to how you can switch on and off the motors independently via a remote. Use wireless switchers that are made to be put behind a in wall outlett or lamp switch. The in wall lamp switches would be most ideal since they can be switched on and off via switch on the wall and a remote. Then have a remote with more then one button on it which is very common and you can turn on and off your motors independently via a remote and via a button as well. There are even remotes with programmable buttons that can turn on all or two motors at the same time so you only have to push on one button to turn on more motors. Basically you have one button for one motor, one button for two motors and one button to turn on all three motors.

Great work as always looks to be a good solution for my small shop. One thing I’m a little confused with is where the silent box fits within the system, am I right to think the 3 pipes running into the valves of the silent box come from the exhaust of the 3 motors?
@HookedonWood Жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, Yes, that is indeed a very good question. But yes, the CamVac has three (In mu case) air outlets, and these outlets are connected to the Silent Box. That is one very nice feature of the CamVac, because now you can distribute the warm air outside of the space you place it. Making it possible to place it in a cabinet for example.

Camvac 55l is a bit easier to close the lid. Theoretically there is more space for the air to create a cyclone movement inside. Air goes easier past the filters. But I did not notice any diffs in performance. However never measure this. Both are very powerful and I guess the same

Hi Dennis, this second video was even better than the first and at a pace which is just right for understanding all the detail. Thanks for sharing the plans and all your knowledge that you have gained so far through all your experience.
@HookedonWood Жыл бұрын
I would consider the three motor when you have a bigger table saw, especially with overhead dust extraction, you have machines with 5 inch air inlets Or when you work a lot with a big planer. Otherwise, the 2 motor is powerful enough. So, I think for 80% of the hobbyist woodworkers, the two motor CamVac is the perfect choice.
@colindoesdiy Жыл бұрын
@Hooked on Wood Thanks as always for your advice. If I was just buying a CamVac, then it would be a 3 motor one for sure. But looking at the original filters in the CamVac and how much mess it creates when cleaning, I would prefer to upgrade the filters as you have done. I would also like to add the Cyclone system together with the Hepa Filters, so I will have to see just how far my pennies will stretch 😁. By the way, the Hepa Filters on the UK Amazon site are double the price of your Amazon site in the Netherlands. Serves us right for leaving the EU 🤣🤣.

Thanks for the inspiration to move to Camvac and the gravity-based ports for the plenum box. I'm also re-working the control box, but leaving it mounted to the Camvac - I'm adding 3 contactors and a Zigbee switch module to trigger the contactors. This way I can control each motor via Home Assistant - automatically with tool power-on, by voice or by remote. I'll write a small timer/script to cycle between al the motors, with 2 motors running at one time while the third rests, thereby allowing full-time running with no motor running longer than 2 hours at a time. A 1 motor version of the script as well for smaller tools - it will also mean that every time it powers on a different motor will run, preventing any one motor from excessive runtime compared to the others.

Your review of the CamVac led me to purchasing it and returning the Grizzly. What a difference! Quick question about the pressure relief valve. Does it negatively affect airflow? I would assume it does to an extent and was thinking to either buy a metal barrel for my separator or reinforce the plastic one that I'm currently using with an internal plywood skeleton.

Hi Chris, I use the 100mm outlet not with the adapter. I use a connection piece of a standard rainpipe. I heated it a bit and then it fitted. I always use rainpipe with the inside and outside connection pieces you have always three choices within a certain diameter. By heating you can enlarge every one of them. Till now I always manage to get one that fits.

Thanks Dennis. In the end I also bought rain pipe and used my 3D printer to print adapters - I find I use the printer more and more in the workshop. On my CamVac system, I use the remote from iVac with a contactor, but it only allows me to turn the system on and off. Considering how innovative Dennis can be, I had hoped that he might have figured out a way to control each motor independently with a remote.

@@waltersheehey Ah, good catch as I didn't see that remote. Like you I'd be interested in learning what it was. Dennis is a true artist when it comes to his designs, and functionality. Because of what I've learned from him, and all the good comments from people like you regarding their CamVac's, I'm having my new shop wired up for one once my house and new woodworking shop is completed.

What's the green tool on the desk in the background?

Yes, that is a new laser I got. Very interesting for the woodworker, did not test it yet, But when it works like it should, I think this can be the laser for the woodworker that just want to cut templates.

@@HookedonWood hi thank you for the reply, yes that sounds interesting, have you ever tried the shaper origin? I see you haven't really had a CNC before I'm guessing this is by choice
