I rescued my rabbit and whatever happened to him at the beginning of his life made him absolutely hate human contact. He will hop over to be and sit by me, but never on my lap and he runs when I go to pet him. He often grunts and stomps his foot when I need to pick him up, so grooming is so difficult and makes me sad how stressed he is. The worst part? He's part angora, meaning he has super long hair. I worry about him ingesting too much of it, but these tips will be helpful! Love your content!

Oh this is my daily thing right here. Having a fluffy boy I'm shedding shedding shedding and he seems to shed so much. Cos he is quite delicate (all rabbits are but Binky even more so) he has a little spot on the bottom of his back he flinches so vets now wondering if it's his spine causing his seizures as his feet turn out but due to this I groom him with a plastic comb with elastic band on it so it's more gentle on him but I'd love to use some of the specially designed ones. I have to say the elastic band method dies work really well. I love your grooming tips. I'm lucky other than that problem he loves to be groomed until I try to shed his butt tufties lol he does not like that I've also rubbed a little water on my hands worked a treat. My bunny Luna absolutely HATES being groomed. Unfortunately for her, she's an Angora, undergoes heavy molts about 3-4 times a year, and has fur/wool that tangles super easily. She's wise to all the tips and tricks too, to the point where she will refuse to eat her pellets or come out for her favorite treat if she spots the comb/brush anywhere nearby. I have no choice but to sit her down several times each molt (a few days apart), hold her, and just brush for as long as she will tolerate it. She usually puts up with it well for about 10 minutes, then starts getting more and more antsy, and then I have to let her go once she begins digging and very forcefully nudging my hand away. Then she runs to a corner and starts grooming herself extra vigorously because she hates what I've done to her fur. If she's feeling kind, she'll accept the treat I give her as a peace offering right after, but usually she won't eat it until some time later, and it takes her days to properly forgive me 😂

I think all bunnies constantly shed, just like kitties. Based on the video I too, would be concerned. However, bunnies are from the wild, and have lived many years caring for each other. So, I'm curious what her thoughts are on your question/concern. All you can do is your best to care for them, try not to stress too hard on it Jason. I do have a question, my rabbit is super skittish when it comes to 'anything' grooming, he rill run away if he thinks you're ganna pick him up or even just hold him in place (cause nails), and he will run away when he sees you with clippers or a brush.Now, I can normally bribe him with food before brushing, but the area that wont work is on top of his head between his ears, he's starting to develop matting there and I wanna clear them up for him but the most he'll allow is my fringers tying to un-mat them (its not working). I was ganna try very small scissors that curve upwards but the sound of them opening scares him off too, and no amount of bribery of food or even fresh apple pieces or strawberries will change his mind. I'm running out of ideas, and Im trying to slowly acclimate him to it (just by having him near them with them in my hand) but it just doesn't seem to work. Any tips?
@BinaMiso4 жыл бұрын
other than brushing and nail trimming, is there any other grooming that needs done? do ears need cleaned or anything like that?
@HooksHollands4 жыл бұрын
It's always a good idea to periodically check ears, though bunnies keep them very clean. If your bunny is stinky, his/her scent glands (on either side of vent area...often have what looks like stinky earwax clogging them) might need cleaned with warm water on a cotton swab.

Do you have any tips for rabbits who keep getting poop stuck to their bottoms and makes their fur all matted when it dries? I have heard that you can use baby-safe cornstarch to give them a dry bath. Would you advise this?

You can carefully dip their bottoms into a shallow bowl of water and work the poop out. Just be careful to dry off the bum when finished and not do this in cold weather.

What should we do with cecotropes? It is.not seen clear.on the video, please give your recommendations i have bunny and she is doing this kind of cectropes
@HooksHollands4 жыл бұрын
Bunnies eat most of their cecotropes for essential nutrients, but some cecotropes can get mashed on the floor or be uneaten. Many uneaten cecotropes can indicate an injury, illness, or digestive problem.

@HooksHollands4 жыл бұрын
I don't have a fuzzy currently, but I highly suggest brushing her as much as possible and trying to make it a pleasant experience (treat at the end) so she'll get used to it. My best advice with fuzzies is to brush them regularly (multiple times per week) before the snarls get too big. Yes, you can carefully trim out the knots in the fur, though I know that isn't easy. :(

Help me please, my Holland lop is 1 yr and 6mos buck, I tried to feed him all kinds of hay but he really doesn’t want it. I tried tricks but he just throw the hay and not bother to eat any of them. When he is a young, ive strugglers to find hay until he’s 8 months, he used to eat some vegetables and banana and apple, raisins as well, up to this time that’s the most the things he eat, if I’m not giving him any of those, to eat hay, he eats his poop or his hair, or starve himself a day or two until I give in. I’m really worried because his incisors grows every single day, one time he almost died due to sedation because vet needs to trim his incisors. He’s very stubborn! How do I get him eat hay 🥺
@HooksHollands4 жыл бұрын

You say that it is dangerous for them to digest their hair. But, since all rabbits come from the wild, that wouldn't make much sense. Can you please explain?
@HooksHollands4 жыл бұрын
Wild rabbits differ from domestic breeds in many ways, and I would guess that they do die from digestive issues such as blockages just the same. What I do know for certain is that domestic rabbits can and do develop life threatening problems from ingesting too much fur. It highly depends upon how much fur they ingest as well as their ability to pass it through their intestines.

You might try wrapping her in a towel and having someone hold her and uncovering one area at a time for brushing. If that's the only way to remove the fur, it might be what needs to be done unfortunately.
