Players comment that they have freedom to play "their" game instead of putting round peg in square hole like a lot of teams do or else sign the big names & clearly don't fit the team. Warriors do the opposite - here's what kind of player we need - who plays like that?

@@waynesun4052 I mean, I know you wanna praise the late Kobester but saying he had no talent or debatable talent, that such a huge huge laid egg from your side. If you say Kobe did not have the physical attributes MJ had, now I’ll give it to you. But man, Kobe was drafted as a high schooler precisely for his immense talent, that put way above his contemporaries and above a great chunk of already established NBA ballers. It was his body that broke down too early, and went that far in his career because his talent, hard work and will power. Players with less injuries retired earlier or underperformed.

One of Gary's cousins was a student of mine about 10 or 12 years ago. My student was simply a wonderful kid, and I also got to know his mother pretty well. They were very intelligent and kind people! As a result, I've been following Gary Payton II's career for years now, hoping he would finally get his big break. Of course, it is easy for me to say now that I knew he was a uniquely exceptional talent for a long time, but I honestly did. My wife is the only person who can back me up on that, but that is enough for me. I was a nervous wreck when he had to clear waivers a few weeks ago. I just couldn't believe that there wasn't at least one GM in the league that could see in him what I saw. The truth is, however, is that I've been following BB since Bill Russell played his first game with the Celtics, so maybe I might have picked up a little uncommon knowledge along the way. Anyway, I am so happy for him! You can so easily tell what a fine young man he is. I believe he is the perfect fit for perhaps the greatest NBA teams of all time. Once again, multiple NBA Championships are coming to the Bay.

Thank you for your story! Warriors have a unique way to play and allow players a lot of freedom where GP2 clearly shines. As a Warriors fan, not paying attention thru summer, not knowing who he was (I grew up in WA state but didn't follow Sonics in his dad's time) but when I saw his first game the universe was on fire, then he made those dunks! 😳 he's so fun to watch, so much energy, talent & heart - clearly a true warrior. I hope he stays with us but if not, NBA is now properly introduced to Mr Payton II. 💙🏀💛

@@marksvids1156 Well, again, this sounds very self-serving, and only my wife, who watches every game with me, can back it up, but I spent the last couple of years claiming that Jordan Poole was going to be something special when so many were saying he was a bust. Again, it was because of my experience as a middle and high school teacher in the black community. I hope I don't offend anybody by saying this, but I can spot a good, well-intentioned, hard-working black kid when I see one because I taught so many. Jordan just stood out to me as a nice young man who would embrace the opportunity to learn and grow from the teaching of Steph Curry. And you can so clearly see it in his game now. The first year when Steph was hurt, he had a tendency to run down the court on offense and just stand around waiting for something to happen. Now, he is running around and cutting all over the place, making things happen- just like Steph! I loved the kids I taught, and I think it is pretty safe for me to say that they loved me too. There was lots of fun in Mister T's classroom and a lot of healing, too. My wife and I have kind of an unwritten agreement: She watches every Warriors Game with me, but we only (for the most part) watch the other teams during the playoffs. So I don't really have a lot of sleepers that I can point to that are generally underrated on the other teams. I will say this, every player on the Warriors, 1-15, has tremendous potential. I think this is one of the deepest teams in BB history. My wife and I loved the Larry Bird Celtics back in the '80s, but they had almost nobody who could come off the bench. Darren Day comes to mind, and that is about it. These Warriors are loaded! My tip - don't underestimate Chiozza! I am not predicting superstardom, but he has some intangibles and will have a longer career than many might now think. One last thing - I never want to hear any self-proclaimed Warriors fan ever again ask hypothetically if we should trade Draymond. Asking that just proves to me that this person doesn't know anything about BB. I will say this to balance out my claims of uncommon BB knowledge - I was not a believer in Kevon Looney when he first started. I kept hollering at the TV, "don't throw him the ball; he can't catch it!" Boy, was I proven wrong about that! Kevon has developed into a quality center with great hands. So, while I trust my judgment and intuition a whole lot, I am willing to admit I'm not infallible.

The overall arc of his bball story, fit with the team and mentality really resembles that of Shaun Livingston. Great to see the underdog succeeding! The moment I first saw Steph release that alley I knew it was as perfect as perfect could be and would result to being one of the prettiest and most powerful dunks in an NBA game. It's still giving me chills. It looks so much more impressive because he dunks like he's 7 ft. Lately I've found myself looking for his athleticism to get the hype going for Golden State's games. I urge anyone who hasn't seen that game of Warriors vs Timberwolves on Nov 10, 2021to do so. That crowd was going off with excitement.

I love this guy! His dad was always one of my favorite players in the NBA, and I still think is one of the most underrated players to ever play. What I love about GP2 is that he has developed his own game, and found his niche. It has to suck (in some ways) to grow up in the shadow of your dad... but he has overcome that and realized that he can make his own mark. The guy seems like total class, and plays the game with a true love for the game. Great story, and great video presenting this!

Agree 100%. Hearing the real story of GP2 is very inspiring. His road to success appears to have been, and continues to be, a rocky one. I love the way you highlighted the relationship between he and his dad, GP1 (the glove). This was a very thoughtful and intimate view of the genesis of what I believe will be a successful career. I like the way that Curry, and the rest of his teammates feed him on the allyoop dunks. It`s very exciting, and it solidifies him as a bonified member of this squad. A 6'3" guard going up that high and dunking the ball with such authority is so much fun to watch. It seems like a groundbreaking development in the evolution of the game. Watching a couple of (short) guys, with very unique talents working together, will be exciting for years to come. GP2 could prolong Curry`s career by a good five years, in my opinion. Kudos to the Warriors organization. Thank you, sir, for creating this video.

I love guys like this - true fight and aren't about being "stars" but perform like a star. There is something to be said about a guy who has something to prove and who continues to IMPROVE. GP II and the Warriors system are a huge part of his success, but another contributing factor is GP I. He seems very involved in his son's success; since the beginning, he began bringing his kid around with him everywhere he went. Having a supportive dad like that is also a huge plus, especially if the dad was a big shot. I'm sure Jordan's son could've made it in the NBA too, but MJ doesn't seem like the kind of father who would nurture his son in an effective way.

Right. MJ’s kids, Patrick Ewing’s, John Stockton’s and so many more would disagree with you, I bet. Living up to expectations set by a legendary parent is different from selling dope at 12 yo in order to support your family, neither dangerous nor tragic, and there’s a level of financial security that comes with having a parent like Gary Payton. Yet don’t underestimate what children of all-time greats have to overcome, most of them are doomed to fail reaching the heights their parents have, right from the start

GPsr was also a helluva lot of fun to watch

I watched Gary Payton at OSU... Gary Payton Senior. He might have 10 points at half time, making sure his teamates got involved, by the end of the game he would have 50. Gary was a monster in college. The only team who showed him up was layola Marymount. A legendary game. Hats off to all players involved in that competition.

GP2 is now here to stay in the NBA. He belongs here in this league. I hope the Warriors give him that multi million 4 year contract he deserves as am sure he is now on the radar of many teams in thhe nba, particularly the Lakers.

I'm ready for GS to sign GP2 on for a longer contract. I've always been excited to watch GSW play but he takes it to another level.
