The no guitars thing is false. It was a restriction for early on in Doom 2016's development since they didn't want to be too much like the Bill and Ted pop media ver of Metal. But Mick pushed and creatively incorporated guitars for 2016 that he was allowed to do so. Eternal he had a lot more freedom and them guitar riffs be heavy use. Exception being Cultist Base which used synth chainsaws as it's guitars.

The reason that the songs dip and dive and always seem fresh or fade in/explode are because they're made to go with the flow of the combat in the game. Different sections of the song will fade in and out depending on what the slayer is doing, it won't always be in the same order.

The whistle sound and trope you're hearing often in these Eternal tracks is actually a callback to Doom 2, where in the level that introdues Hell, there is a very ominous whistle through the track

1:02 There's no guitar in DOOM 2016 except for maybe 2 OSTs. For Eternal, while Mick did use more guitar than in 2016, he mostly used chainsaws and lawnmowers. depends on the OST. For this? Honestly no idea but I think a mix of the three.

I don’t know about all of the songs but I do know there is Guitar in some of them. BFG division video actually shows including an 8 string guitar. The sound is highly altered of course but yeah there’s guitar in it.

In DOOM '16 half of the tracks have guitars, they are just mixed and altered in way that it doesn't sound like a guitar. BFG, Rip and Tear are of course the main ones people know have guitars. Hellwalker has an 8 string, At Doom's Gate has a 9, and Harbinger has an 8. The simple way to put it is that Mick morphed the sounds of the guitar with another sound, for example Hellwalker has a part where an 8 string is morphed with the sound of the classic chainsaw from DOOM 1 and 2. At Doom's Gate the guitar is so low and mixed in a way it just sounds more electronic than it does guitar.

Also something else I forgot to mention. Mick Gordon also did the soundtrack for killer instinct for Microsoft. The remake from like 2013 or whatever. It’s a fighting game and as such the tracks are significantly shorter since they aren’t really design to go that long but the style is definitely similar. I mean you could definitely tell it’s him.

All songs in doom eternal are using guitar (minus cultists base which used a lawnmower ) this was an original rule in doom 2016 but not carried over in eternal.

ok ok ok, this one IS in fact a guitar ( and little bit of chainsaw riffige ) and I believe it’s a Custom Regius 8 pro that Mick Gordon used ( I could be wrong ). besides that, it’s an amazing and diverse track that he created. in my opinion, I think you should doom-eternal tack reaction before you play doom eternal just so you don’t spoil anything you didn’t get to listen to before playing the game. Obviously this is just a suggestion! ( also you should react to BFG 10000 next. When the producers went to Mick Gordon for the soundtrack, one of the conditions was, indeed, no guitar. But when he came back with a sample of what he’d made, it was so good that he changed their minds. Both soundtracks have plenty of guitar, but he does sample chainsaws, lawnmowers, and other stuff.

This song 100% has guitar in it. Gordon doesn't necessary just use a lawnmower and a chainsaw and connect it to a keyboard. He uses an audio plugin called Morph to take an audio sample of his lawnmower, and combine that with his guitar to create the sound you hear, so it's more accurate to say its half chainsaw half guitar. He doesn't use this method all the time he uses it pretty sparingly actually just in Hellwalker from 2016 and in Cultist Base in Eternal, for most of the guitar he just mixes his normal 9 string in his Mick Gordon way. He explains all this in his talk at GDC kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2Wpf3WDj9ikqLs I recommend watching it. Also something interesting is he doesn't use just any chainsaw he took the sound file of the chainsaw from Doom 1993 and used that.

There are guitars in all the of the tracks, only a few don't have them because they are just ambient or just mainly an electronic track. In Doom 2016 half of the tracks have guitars, they are usually altered in a way it doesn't sound like a guitar. Hellwalker for example, the main guitar is mixed with the sound of the chainsaw from the classic DOOM games; this also applies to some tracks in DOOM Eternal, as some of the sounds are guitars morphed with other sounds.

I suggest listening to the Super Gore Nest beta version it is called 264 BPM and was by Andrew Baena he did an awesome job on it but was declined by Mick who deemed a bit to aggressive Edit: it was used in the E3 trailer/quakecon 2018
