As a pelicans fan i can tell you, you need to look into Karlo Matkovic. I didnt hear him mentioned here, he is going to play far more minutes this year than Yves Missi. And in our closing lineups we will play small ball. My projected lineup for that is DJ, BI, Zion, Trey, Herb. CJ gonna be 6th man of the year this year.
@berserkmonk5331Күн бұрын
Pels rookie centers look pretty interesting. Matkovic looked good in summer league. Not sure how good his screens are or how his shot blocking will look like though. I have concerns for Zion at the 5. Against small teams, it should work fine, like against the warriors or kings or teams like that, but no way is it going to work against TWolves or Lakers or OKC. Zion is a pretty bad rebounder for his size, my concern would be that they would get destroyed on the boards.

My question: Jimmy Butler has recently been compared (by another KZbinr) to Lebron James in terms of style of play. Given how James and Curry played during the Olympics and the rumours about Butler being traded with the Warriors as a possible destination, how do you see the fit of Butler and Curry and do you believe that would make them a title contender this year. [Note: Of course this question assumes that Butler has a similar skill set/playing style as James and that the James/Curry fit in the Olympics can be replicated even if the talent is a tier below]

Hey Jason, thanks for keeping up the good content to carry us through the final stretch. Real basketball coming soon🙌 Got a 2 part mailbag for you - First, do you consider Steph's overall season this year or any substantial part of it as superstar level? The numbers you mentioned that would indicate a return to form (27pts, 45% fg%, 40% 3pt%) are almost identical to his actual season stats, and his pre-allstar (which is also pre-slump) numbers in 50 games are obviously better. Secondly, what other indicators will you be looking for beyond scoring volume and efficiency? We know that with Steph the box score is far from the whole story, and it was demostrated in this season as well. In the first 50 games, Steph was scoring like his normal self, but the team was all over the place, his net rating was almost neutral, and his defensive rating was atrocious. During his 'slump', the team actually resembled the Warriors a lot more, and they were winning his minutes by a substantial margin. Could we maybe try to estimate his 'bounce back' by a combination of individual return to form, and a more abstract team success around it?

It’s funny that a down year for Klay is still better than lots of good nba players lol. He was the second highest scorer on the team last season too. He’s not the same player that he once was, but it isn’t fair to compare him to old Klay. He’s still far from being washed like so many people seem to think. Let’s not forget that he was extremely unhappy with the warriors. He seemed mentally checked out with one foot out the door because he knew he was leaving and that can have a big impact on a players performance. I think he will have a better season this year with the Mavs where he won’t be expected to be the second best player on the team.

The issue with players playing when they shouldn't is they will forever be judged like they were healthy. Joel Embiid looked like he was wearing down at the end of the Knicks series. He shouldn't have played at all. He was a large man coming off of an MCL surgery. He came back too early and even took the team friendly option to make it back on time. If Embiid was looking out for his own career, he shouldn't have had surgery in the first place but then he wouldn't have been able to play until this October. He played injured and gets judged like he was healthy. Last year in the loss to the Celtics he came back early from the PCL sprain and shouldn't have been playing. Embiid is injury prone. In that same line of thinking Joel has played through injury and his playoff performances will be judged like he was healthy because he played. He wasn't healthy for most of his playoff appearances. To be real Embiid hasn't even been 80% for most of his playoff appearances. PCLs, MCLs, Broken hand ligaments, Broken Orbital bones, Bells Palsy, and even flus and stomach sicknesses. Bad luck and injury prone. He played through it when he should have sat. Embiid would have a better playoff reputation if he just didn't even play because his results are what an injured version of him would put up.
@tiredbasketballfanКүн бұрын
I agree that the 'if you play you're healthy' approach is ridiculous, but specifically in Embiid's case, Idk if being known for never playing in the playoffs would've served him much better. @semi6544Күн бұрын
@@tiredbasketballfan -- Injuries are definitely the problem but people are turning it into Embiid not being a great player. Embiid under performed in the playoffs. People even believe Embiid isn't a top 10 player in the league anymore. The Sixers were 40W / 8L in the regular season games Embiid played last year. Embiid averaged over 1 point per minute played. Embiid was averaging 35 ppg before he had to have surgery. People are actually judging him on how he plays injured.
@tiredbasketballfan22 сағат бұрын
@@semi6544 I think it's possible to argue that being a top 10 player requires more than potential and regular season dominance, people want to believe you're capable of taking your team to the ultimate goal. Whether it's injuries or other problems, he's 30 now and has yet to show he can be fully available, which might make him less valuable in the big picture than players who have a lower ceiling but have shown they can be there. At this point, trusting him is somewhat of a risky gamble. If he always plays injured in the playoffs, it's true that it shouldn't reflect on his overall ability. But if he hasn't shown he can get there healthy, it's reasonable to evaluate him in the context of the NBA season while taking into account that he's very likely to be injured by the time the playoffs come around
@semi654421 сағат бұрын
@@tiredbasketballfan -- You are probably right but that criteria is too subjective. I usually think of top 10 players as the players with the most talent and ability. I feel like people tend to overrate older players, sometimes. If we are projecting for next season I wouldnt be so bullish on guys like kd, steph, bron, harden... Regression, like progression isnt linear, guys make all star leaps or mvp leaps esrly in their careers, and guys go from all-nba players to fringe all stars overnight as well. I am very skeptical of the warriors, lakers, and suns for these reasons. Its been amazing to see guys like bron, kd, and steph defy the usual aging curve, but at some point they are gonna fall off. Given the load all 3 of those guys are expected to carry, on top heavy teams battling for seeding over 82. And the fact that theyre all in their mid to late 30s and have already been defying rhe odds for multiple seasons, im selling on the lakers, warriors, and suns. @tiredbasketballfan2 күн бұрын
If they could just get a player they wanted by snapping their fingers, sure. In reality though, we have no idea how close or far from a deal they were, and how much of it was their fault. I don't care about them going on about 'Podz is the future', I don't trust any of this, they can have all sorts of underlying intentions for doing that. With Lauri not wanting to leave Utah and Danny Ainge probably asking for their entire roster and maybe their arena as a bonus, maybe it was never a real option. Point is, we don't know what happened. They're still positioned to do something, and it's frustrating when nothing happens, but they can't make a deal with themselves, they need the right target who wants to come and a reasonable or at least not outrageous asking price.

@@tiredbasketballfan brother I like your comment for being neutral with the situation but let's just be hypothetical here. it's just a matter of question of would you trade your future and young guys on the team for a player to help your franchise player to contend in the playoffs to win another chip?
@tiredbasketballfan2 күн бұрын
@@iMacaroniCheese Short answer - yes. I'd risk the future for *truly* contending the next couple of years. Long answer - I just don't think this question is really that simple. The young guys are not just the future, they're also the present depth and some of them (sadly) are even among the present top players on the team. You can't give away all of them to be left with a depleted roster and an unproven second option to Steph. I personally *would* try to go all in on Steph, but only if it actually makes sense. At some point you might have to admit that giving up all the young guys for someone unideal has a high chance of ruining both your present and your future, and then what are we doing here. The reality is that they're not in a great situation, and the blame is definitely at least partially on them, but that's the situation we have to work with.
@berserkmonk53312 күн бұрын
Ainge was never serious about trading him. He just wanted to entertain trades to feel what his value was. He wanted a Mikael Bridges type of haul for Markkanen. If the warriors were truly going to give up their depth and 4+ first rounds, And second rounds, and swaps( mind you, lots of picks in the Post Curry seasons), they probably should offer that for like Giannis. Markkanen is great, had 2 great comeback seasons in Utah. But he doesn't want to play Center, and he's never played in the playoffs( he's never been thrown into an environment where the defense ramps up).
@iMacaroniCheeseКүн бұрын
@@berserkmonk5331 i disagree, it's more like warriors were never serious about trading for markannen because if you saw shams report of warriors final offer to the jazz its not even close to the rumors nor what the jazz asked from them. I agree that jazz were asking too much but the warriors refusal to trade podz which the jazz were mainly asking for made this trade more not even close to happening. there's a big difference between the warriors and the knicks. knicks were willing to sacrifice their future in order to help their franchise player and the city to win a chip and warriors is not. hes never been in the playoffs because hes never been on a good team and injuries. draymond has been their center for the last two years he doesn't have to play at center. he's a good help defender at the rim, easily help draymond in rebounding wih his size, and you get a legit 2nd option in terms of scoring. markannen could've been their next franchise player in the next 5yrs based on his current contract and build around him. warriors should've immediately traded kuminga bfr jazz have realized that podz was the real prize. markannen would make more sense with podz than with kuminga. Trading away podz or kuminga for giannis or anyone else would not make any sense at this point. Giannis on the warriors will be just like dame and giannis in the bucks game doesn't just complement each other. curry needs like KD, markannen, or shooting big man like KAT who can pick and pop with him. while giannis needs a playmaker like trae, luka or harden that runs a pick n roll with him that makes him a lob threat and allows him to get easily close to the basket without isolating too much.

First of all Klay and Wiggins start in Season. After their timberwolves Game til early January it felt like they did not play like team. Easy mistake. Just not what you saw before that point and after early January. It felt like a breaking point for the Warriors. During that time frame most of the top 10 netrating teams took place. Just Basketballwise if your 3rd and 4th player are just performing to not starting Level over 2 months you cannot win Games against top teams. Kumingas jump not to mention. They had the most frontloaded schedule in the League. Against OKC they lost 2 Games because they choked a lead. Kings IST they choked 20+ Lead. To say that they closed every realistically closeable Lead is wrong they choked many leads against top teams like Nuggets, Okc and so on. Your stat against 10 highest netrating teams is just misleading due to 52 Blowout by Boston. They did not sequeze every drop with how many Games were pretty much won if they played at the end of Games in November and December to a level that is a close to average level of play.
