Stock if you plan to resell. Custom if you plan to keep it. Nice find.

Wow, bud. From one end of the spectrum to the other... Would have to see more of the bike to make a call... A modern bobber would be kinda cool... Gotta see it with all the plastic off...

How the build goes I think should depend on what is damaged. If you have to complete redo everything or key parts why not make something completely I knew and different. If it's pretty straightforward maybe just fix and sell? But I have no idea where that line is. Also it might be really satisfying to fix a trashed bike well enough that people can't tell it was ever a wreck and think it's new? I am curious how this build goes. Really like your channel.

Like the thought. See how the build goes and follow the line of least expense. That melds with the premise of 'how to get a nice bike for a cheap as possible'. 👍

So how do those baffles work for you on the bobber? I like it without.

I have a hard time telling the difference. Which may be why my career as a classical trumbone player fizzled out 😿. But yeah, I am running the baffles. I like the sound of it. Waiting on some parts right now, so not riding.

@7:27 The 2016 because of ABS and EFI. It is easier to live with on a daily basis and in general. The 40 years old bike is more akin to an OCC bike for 70 grand that is barely drivable if you aren't a masochist.

Hooptie , in Texas what do you have to go through to get it back to road legal with a salvage title? It seems most of the bikes like this become race only or parts bikes.
@HooptieDoodle
@HooptieDoodle 5 жыл бұрын
Great question! It is possible to get it road legal as there is a process. How difficult the process actually is is a question I want to answer by actually going through it (yikes!). So by the time the build series is done - we'll know.

Here in Alabama it has to get back to stock condition and every part has to be documented that was replaced. Then it has to be inspected and signed off on by a liscenced inspector.
@HooptieDoodle
@HooptieDoodle 5 жыл бұрын
@@jeremyrussell2241 that's my basic understanding of it as well. They want to discourage trafficking of stolen bikes and parts. Then after that it becomes a 'real' bike again and not just a collection of parts. Then it can be registered, etc. Looking forward to the process and determing whether this is a cheap way to get a bike?

I think that if your laws are similar you would not be able to “customize “ it till it has been returned to stock but I may be wrong. This however could affect the rebuild direction.
@jeremyrussell2241
@jeremyrussell2241 5 жыл бұрын
Another option would be to find a frame that has a good title and just swap out the parts.

The question is "How much money do you want to throw away?" Customizing it means you can't sell it and the build becomes a "show and tell" project. Restoring it to original is the way to go in my opinion. Hondas are not like John Deere tractors (or BMW motorcycles).....You won't find new parts for the bike forty years from now, but you can get the parts now because it is so new. Worst comes to worst, you dismantle it enough to inventory everything that needs replacing and see how much money is actually needed. Then you can decide if you want rebuild, scrap for parts, or make an off-road armadillo chaser.
@HooptieDoodle
@HooptieDoodle 5 жыл бұрын
😀 an armadillo chaser sounds awesome! Love it. I'll certainly be doing some math to see what makes sense. Thanks for the input 👍
