It’s one of my bucket list items to visit! Found my long lost great grandfather buried in Wallace in a miners cemetery. He abandoned his family in Boston just prior to 1910 and I found him via Ancestry living in Gem as a miner. Died in 1925 buried in Wallace.

Whenever I’m in Wallace, it feels like I’m in a giant hole because of the way it’s surrounded by the mountains. It’s a strange feeling, but not an unpleasant one.

That was a nice lil drive through my small town.... MIss it dearly! You drove right past my house!!! And Yes!! It would have been nice to have seen all the historic homes!!! Oh and by the way the trolley is for the Sierra Silver Mine tour up the road from where it was coming from and they take you all around Wallace. Great place to live and grow up. Its waaaay up by the Montana/Washington border across I-90!!!

Nice, but having grown up there in the late 50's and into 60's, you missed the gorgeous historic homes, went right by the (back of) great library and its architecture and of course you missed the famous or infamous houses of "ill repute" in downtown which predominated the mining community that went side by side along with all the churches. The most famous madam in Wallace was responsible for the funds for the local swimming pool and the high school band uniforms. It was a most interesting and unforgettable place to grow up.... :)

Wallace is a fantastic basecamp to the National Forest road system that literally surrounds it on all sides. From UTV’s and ATV’s to snowmobiles and tank tracks on regular vehicles to take you splitboarding far out in snow country such as Thompson Pass, it’s really hard to beat this town’s location. Some forest roads like Hiawatha for biking, and those out of Moon Pass and the Trail of the CdA’s paved path down to the lake I think really are almost world-class.

When I think of Idaho, potatoes is what comes to mind...Didn't realize it has beautiful mountains and scenic byways...Boise is the only city I can come up with...Wallace must be a tourist destination as it has its own trolley service. You are one lucky guy to have visited so many places in the U.S. of A. Say, have you visited all 50 states yet? Not to be nosey or anything, but why are you travelling all alone? Just curious... ~Bel~

Wallace, Idaho is notable for being the filming location of the 1997 disaster film “Dante’s Peak”, in which it is portrayed as the titular fictional town in Washington state, with the large hill overlooking the town early in the video digitally altered to look like a volcano, whose eruption the film centers around.
