Thanks to this video I diagnosed the problem with my tumble dryer and managed to dismantle and repair it myself at 31 weeks pregnant! Thanks to this video I found the cause of my tumble dryer startup problems and I followed the excellent step by step instructions to replace the capacitor which I bought from the how-to-repair eBay store (only £7). Granted it took me a good 4+ hours to do (as I'm a complete novice at white good repairs!) but it did the job at a low cost so I'm happier than the proverbial Larry! Am very grateful to this chap for putting this video up, thank you

I had this problem with my hoover tumble dryer, it would sometimes start ok but when it stopped to reverse I’d just get the electrical humming noise and the drum wouldn’t turn, watched this video which is exactly what mine was doing , ordered a new capacitor online fitted it and it’s like a new machine! Working better than ever! Great work guys very informative videos

Many thanks for this tutorial. I was told by a tradesman that I'd need a new PCB for my dryer and he quoted silly money for parts and labour. Then I did a search and this was the very first video I came to. 18 minutes later I felt I could fix it myself. An hour later I had ordered a capacitor and 24 hours after that I had the dryer up and running again. Total cost? A whole £14.95 and that included courier delivery! I saved a massive £170.00 off the quoted price. I found the tutorial very easy to follow but I managed to get my hands in the gap and change the capacitor without removing the drum and belt, a tight fit but saved a bit of time and effort.

Thank you! Fixed my dryer in less than an hour. Spent more time panicing about electocuting myself on the capacitor than in did to safely change it (no charge in it), put a new belt on at the same time so should be good for a few more years. Saved a call out fee and earned myself some blue points. Another job done! My wife was already eyeing a new dryer online but that money is now safe as well

Excellent video and has saved me from buying a new machine twice for the sake of a €15 part! My dryer 1st went last year and i found this video and gave the drum a push and sure enough it went flying. 9 months later power was on and the buzzing sound but did not kick into life when i pushed it. Was thinking it finally gave up the ghost but thought id change the capacitor. BOOM fired back up. Great detailed instructions top video!

Top video, thought our tumble dryer was at the end of its days, thought the motor was going weak, could restart it if I nudged the drum, and before I lugged it outside to bin it, thought I'd just go on KZbin and give it one last chance, stumbled on this video which showed you nudging the drum to get it to turn, £9.99 later, and ifs fixed. Bit of a struggle on a Candy Condensor dryer, serious lack of room to get to the capacitor, and having to remove and replace with one hand, but it's saved me over £200, so was more than worth the fiddling. Nice one

Excellent tutorial as usual from how-to-repair. My issue was with my Hoover Condenser Dryer. I made the school-boy error of replacing the PCB first (based on another YT video) before discovering this one. How-To-Repair will now be my go-to site for all domestic repairs. The Hoover condenser dryer takes several more steps but the principals are the same. The only addition is that you can't remove the bottom of the machine to get to the motor & capacitor so I removed the plastic trim and the fan before slipping the belt off the pulley wheel. This allows you enough space to get two arms down passed the drum to hold the old capacitor whilst undoing the holding nut. Ordered the h-t-r replacement capacitor from their e-bay store. Excellent price and arrived in two days!! Followed the refitting part of the video and the drier now works pefectly. I have a spare PCB if anyone needs one!!

after watching this video, i decided to have a go at my candy condenser. sourced part from Hoover and it took me an hour and a half (mostly looking for tools in the shed). with a condenser machine, I had to prize apart the sides of the case to get at the capacitor and one of the spades on the capacitor was stuck so had to re thread another spade connector onto my cable. all cleaned out and put back together. works a treat now. thanks for the instructions off this video and with a bit of ingenuity, I have a working machine. here's to another 5 years of use.

Can I just say, I have the Hoover VisionTech Infinity 9kg condenser dryer & I've had the same issue, sometimes it would just stop mid cycle or fail to start just like you showed in this video. Its not in warranty & asked a few repair services for quotes. I in detail described the issue & they said a £50 call out to double confirm what I've said & then a £120+ fix. I went online & ordered a capacitor for £8 it's been working a dream as of a few weeks ago since I found this video. Added bonus, I gave it a good clean of dust as well. Really useful video, thank you! Very easy to follow, step by step. If you're considering doing this, don't be put off by what seems like a millions screws to remove, just track which goes where (as he suggests), and keep going. Great that the video even shows the order for putting everything back together again. If you're about to get started, my one top tip would be BUY two capacitors (7uF and 8uF) before you start - they cost about £10 each, and you're going to be saving the cost of a new machine (about £260). I learned that lesson the hard way - I used the model number on the back of my machine to track down the manual online which specified an 8uF capacitor. So you can imagine I wasn't too happy when I opened up the machine to discover a 7uF capacitor in place! Aargh! As I couldn't leave the kitchen a mess and run the rest of losing screws etc, the worse part was having to close up the machine again until the new part arrived, knowing I was going to have to go through the whole process again in another couple of days time! So, I strongly recommend you save yourself the hassle and buy two capacitors upfront! Machine now working beautifully. Thank you again!

Just managed to change the capacitor, does need a few tools beyond a basic screwdriver to strip down the machine but I had these already, new capacitor fitted & working perfectly, a bit fiddly to access & getting the connectors on & off, but job done for under £20! Interestingly ours takes a 7uF capacitor, I checked the new one on the multimeter and got 7uF exactly, the old one is only reading 2uF!

Great video but worth noting be careful when undoing the 13mm Capacitor bolt, when I was undoing mine the bolt wasn’t undoing it was in fact the capacitor that was turning which resulted in the two spade connector wires shearing off, it was an easy enough fix but if I did the job again I would follow the drum removal video first, this gives you much easier access to the capacitor and it’s only an extra 10 minutes to remove and refit the drum, also much easier for hoovering all the fluff up.Great videos though saved me buying a new dryer and the part only cost £10.

(We’ve been putting the weight of washing to one side and it starts it going 😂) Shame I need to take it apart to find out what size it is (mine is one of them that I can’t order a part for 😓) Thanks , this will be second time you’ve fixed my dryer

Is this process much different on the heat pump models?

Thanks for this. For what it's worth you may be able to get a phone in and take a picture of the capacitor labelling, if it's oriented in a favourable way, without removing the internal plastic sections. Saves a bit of time on the first bit. Illuminate with a torch and turn flash off. My Hoover VTV 580 NC-80 used a 7 microfarad version btw...

Does the condenser model vary much regarding stripping down to access the capacitor?

Great video. Our machine is starting to display this fault. I spun the drum, shut the door and switched it on, and it started, but drum did sound a bit noisy when I turned it.

Mine is doing this... did you ever do the fix?

Hi, great guide! So as long as its a 7uf tumble dryer capacitor it would be fine? I don't have to worry about any of the vac ratings or anything? Thanks again

Thank you. I was about to give up and found this video! I thought I might be able to use it by manually starting the drum while I wait for the part to arrive but not really. I put a towel in to make sure it would still heat up and it does but its very slow. I guest thats because the motor is not what it what?

Hello great video, mines the same doesn’t spin so followed your video and taken the old capacitor out mine has 4 pins, only 2 were spades were connected to it, looking online I can find the same 7UF capacitor but only 2 pins, would that still be ok? Its a 7UF 5% as is the one online.

I'm really pleased the video was helpful to you. Think about the environmental impact of building machines and then recycling them. These machines are often transported halfway around the world, which adds to fuel costs. It's baffling that we need to ship them every five years due to failure. It would be really helpful for me to get my video shared and help us fight appliance waste! Please remember to subscribe to our channel, as that really helps us 😇

Thanks changed mine and repaired it. The capacitor was dead no spark. Mine is a zanussi and it is 35 yrs old!!!! The belt is threadbare but cost of replacement is too great. Never ever broken. Had 3 kids from birth to leaving home. Quality product unheard of today. Drum sounds and feels a little vibratory so bearing prob worn out. Capacitor was £7 so if it lasts 6 months great. Mine was a much easier fix than this indoor 8” square panel 4 bolts straight onto capacitor 2 minute job. Test with panel off and bobs uncle.

Just played this game on a Candy heatpump dryer. However i didnt find the video until after I had took it apart and greased the rear bearing and de-fluffed the drum seal at the front that works as a support. The machine is back working however i think possibly the capacitor is weak hence it could mot overcome the increased resistance of the drum turning due to fluff on the seal perhaps? Does this sould feasible? Seems a strange design with the felt seal. There was some resistance beyond what I would think would be normal. Obviously the clean up of the lint has got it free enough for the capacitor to do its job just

We've just put our new capacitor in our condenser dryer with help from your videos and it spins like a dream. However it doesn't seem to be heating now and coming up with error code E08. Not sure why! Is there anything we could've left unplugged by accident? We didn't unplug the sensor under the door so I know it's not that.
