Well done Dorian - it is indeed Feb 1975, so you know how to date a Hoover made between 1967 and 1997 now! The rattling noise is the brushroll, and it sounds like the motor runs just fine. The way to tell is to run it with the belt removed, and you will soon see what is causing most of the rattle noise. If the machine is still noisy and rough with the belt removed, then check the metal suction fan for damaged vanes, and also remove the top bearing and check the motor cooling fan is not clogged up with fluff and dirt causing a motor imbalance. I would also say from listening to you spinning that brushroll by hand, that the brushroll bearings are noisy and rough, and need replacing - I had to replace the bearings on my Ranger's brushroll as well, as it sounded much like yours did. Also, the brushroll end caps fit into the chassis and are held in by 2 spring loaded clasps either side of the opening for each end, thats 4 clasps altogether. If the clasps are not holding the endcaps tighly in position, the endcaps will vibrate against the metal chassis, and cause that loud rattling, so you need to get a pair of pliers and bend those clasps round so that they secure tightly agaisnt the endcaps with the endcaps pushed completely into the chassis. There should be no play between the endcaps and the chassis, or they will rattle. Hoover did used to make a kind of flat metal packing piece, I cant remember what they were called though, that would push beween the brushroll endcap and the side of the chassis to help reduce any sideways play in the brshroll, ie if you grab the centre of the brushroll where the belt goes, and try to move it from side to side - any play would need one of these packing pieces to stop that happening. Other than that, cracked headlight lenses are very common, mine is cracked as well, and the bag holder arm should be sprung loaded to pop upwards, rather than flop straight down, then the bag wont sag or fall off in use. Not sure how you would fix that other than maybe use the upper handle assembly off the other Senior you have. The clips that I am on about for the brushroll endcaps are these things: morganelectrics.co.uk/index.php?id_product=390&controller=product&id_lang=1

+MadAboutHoovers I will definitely have a go at that. The guy I bought it from said there was an issue with rattling, I’m not really sure how to fix it, I will have to have a tinker

Nice job hope our 4002 turns out as nice as that one . At the moment I’m dealing with the same top scrape marks.

+Vacuum mad 8 I think I’d really have to sand it down to make it look perfect, but I think it may weaken the plastic, some old vac war wounds give them a bit of character 🤣

It's very pretty to look at now... and it's certainly got a lot of oomph behind it... you could almost call it... a Power Ranger. ;)

Just thought - if you didnt want replace the brushroll bearings, or to buy any of those H clips as linked to in my last comment, which prevent sideways play of the brushroll in the chassis cutouts, then maybe you could try cutting out some cardboard from a cereal box, fold it and insert it in between the end of the brushroll endcap and the chassis when pushing the brushroll down into its chassis housings, and this may help to stop endcap rattle, which is basically metal to metal rattling of the endcaps against the side of the chassis, possibly due to play in the brushroll bearings causing the endcaps to be closer together than they should be, and allowing sideways movement of the brushroll in the casing.

+MadAboutHoovers last time I did that was on a Junior I had. I used a strip of felt to cushion the brushroll ends, that worked perfectly with it.

Hi, so its definitely a 2 core power cable on this one? I could only get 6amp three core for mine, I will have to just sut back the earth core when I put 20m of cable on my U4002. thanks
@HooverLux5 жыл бұрын
Yes, but I’d still buy the 3 core and cut back the earth, so you have a thicker stronger cable, but that’s just personal preference. 20m cable! Wow!!!! Love it! One plug, all vacuumed with ease. Awesome!!! If I only had a house big enough 🤣🤣🤣
@lmwilby98715 жыл бұрын
@@HooverLux Yes the cable is thicker than the 2 core one, in an apartment its more than enough to just use 1 power outlet and hoover through the entire apartment in one go.

Fantastic, absolutely love it. I hope you enjoy using it every single time. Well done. 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
