Hoovie is spot on with this list. I love, love, love air-cooled 911s but I'm not going to pay the money for one right now. I bought a '99 996 manual coupe for $14k seven years ago and love it. I can replace the engine four times and it will still be cheaper than one 1987 Carrera. I think it all comes down to the gatekeeping that happens in Porsche circles. Certain dudes want to hang with the "cool" crowd and they feel like an air-cooled 911 is the only way in. The truth is that nobody cares about your car more than you do. So just buy what you love and drive it.

I completely agree with you on most of these but especially on the air cooled 911s. They are some of my favorite cars of all time and I've had several including a SC, 964, 993, 930 4 speed, and a 993 Turbo in the early to mid 2000s but now they've gotten stupid expensive. I 😊 have a clean low mileage 996 C4 Cab. I won't say I enjoy the 996 as much as an air cooled one but for the price it's still a great driving experience. As far as what the general person thinks any Porsche is cool. Years ago I was in So Cal in my SC Targa, which I had just picked up from the shop for having a full restoration so it looked great. I saw a 993 Turbo S parked at a bar near the PCH so of course I stopped and was drooling over it. A guy was walking in and stopped to talk to me and said he'd introduce me to the owner but couldn't understand why I was so excited. He said what's the difference between his and my car, they look the same! I get all sorts of compliments on my 996 and even when I have my friend's dad's 986 Boxster people say how nice a car it is and it's a fun car to drive. Kinda slow but fun. That was a crazy long way to say there's no good reason for regular air cooled 911s to be anywhere as much as they are. Even most of the special ones are way too much. The Grand Nationals are way too much too!!!

Bought an 85 3.2 for $15k and sold it for $18k ten years ago. Loved the car but couldn’t imagine paying more than $25k for a nice one. That car would be around $60k today. Glad I had it when I did. People bring them to track days now and they are roadblocks. They need their own class….
@hitchedtohorsepower8 ай бұрын
@steveo85 completely agree. I truly love them but they are very compromised cars that aren't fast unless you spend a fortune to build a motor. Also to get track performance out of them you have to know how to drive them not just a good track driver in general. They aren't comfortable at all and things like heat and AC are a joke. Like I said still one of my favorite cars but the prices of the last several years are ridiculous.

Sorry, Tyler. The 4 Runner is not more capable than the XJ Cherokee. I am not a Toyota or Jeep guy, but the proof is in the pudding. Out here in the desert southwest, the XJ has shown much more capability and is less expensive to maintain and upgrade. It is KZbin channels like Matt's Off-Road Recovery that have spiked the interest in this very capable vehicle. I had a chance to purchase a 59,000 mile, one-owner, original condition Cherokee Sport for $6900 in Dec. 2022. Someone beat me to the punch (I am 6 hrs away). The car was up for sale 3 weeks later on the same site for $14,000 and sold in a day. OUCH!!! You nailed it, WAY too much money on these often beat down SUVs.

A DeLorean is only not reliable if it wasn't taken care of or if you had a bad mechanic working on it. I owned my DeLorean for almost 6 years and once all the crap was taken care of it drives without any issues for the last few years . The windows are bigger then on your contact in case you forgot. They built abut 9000 of the cars and once the catalytic system is removed it drives great. Remember no cars were fast in the early 80s. This was not because o a bad engine but because of crazy us rules by the government. The same engine was used in the Renault Alpine (without any US regulations for European market) and it had way more horsepower. The DeLorean is a legend unlike so many other cars

I actually agree with Hoovie on a few of these. The DeLorean is an epicly cool vehicle to LOOK AT, but its completely empty on "experience". Supras are getting STUPID expensive. Not even during the onslaught of F&F 1 did the price of Supras explode so much. It's crazy. The thing about Grand Nationals is that they were out accelerating *brand new* muscle cars all the way into the late 2000s. Now GNXs the sky is the limit. Less then 600 produced and even faster.

What I feel like hoovie forgets is the reliability of the Cherokee Xj and landcruiser. Back when the Cherokee was under 5k they were an amazing off-road platform. Toss another 5k in aftermarket on it and you have a rig capable of keeping up with any modern vehicle on trails. People don't want newer heavily complicated vehicles when it comes to off-road stuff. The tride and true vehicles really hold there value there. With the abandonment of that market in the new car market unless you spend 60k+ those older plain vehicles are a great choice

Tyler..you know you can go to Delorean and order a car basically brand new? April..."I have a savings account! Manufacturers are pulling back because they know EVs aren't viable (and a scam). The problem is that anything that is a daily driver or survivor is already wrecked and torn apart for spare parts or restored. It's why you never find reasonable priced old Mustangs from the 60s. Anything that is affordable is long dead and gone and all that are left are the few survivors.
