I just "Sold" my BMW, a 1999 323i sedan, to a contractor who was gouging me. One of his workers asked if I wanted to sell it and I looked him straight in the eyes and without hesitation said, "Why, yes, I do!" The contractor took my asking price off his bill. I bought it used in 2018 knowing it would require maintenance and repair, which it immediately and near constantly fulfilled that prediction while I taught my son to drive in it. I will always remember this car. When it was working, it was the nicest car I'd ever owned. Smooth, comfortable, quiet, and an absolute pleasure to drive, but never a month passed without something breaking and requiring expensive repairs. There was always a warning light on the dash letting me know of the next attack upon my wallet. If Hoovie says that 2001 was a Golden Year for BMWs then it may have been for the E46 3-series, but 1999 was the first year for the E46 and there were many parts for the 1999 model year that didn't make it to the 2000s. I bought many parts that worked on every model of E46 except the 1999 model year. All parts were rare and expensive. The simple repairs I performed in my driveway, but my mechanic soon dreaded my many return visits. The electronics were 20 years old and so were the mechanicals, both were at EOL and it had become a money pit. The final straw was when the Xenon headlamp amplifier failed and burned out the bulb. I replaced the ridiculously expensive bulb and still no headlight. Car couldn't be driven at night and the amplifier was part of an $1100 replacement headlight assembly. Should I replace it and then find out the failure was somewhere else in the CAN bus system? That's when I decided to sell the car. I was glad to get rid of it and remove it from my driveway and my insurance policy.

I would agree more if it was an old Corolla or something that really could be driven by those less well off, trying to make do. @xiukn8 Жыл бұрын
Or at least swap bell housing from smg,
@mrflippant Жыл бұрын
It's doable on the E46 M3 SMG, but in that case you still have to get a new hole cut and tapped to install the different reverse-gear sensor. Apparently the later SMG transmissions are substantially less amenable to the conversion to the point where it would cost WAY more to make the modifications than to just replace with one that has always been manual.
@stamboer99 Жыл бұрын
That’s because the smg trans is shared with the manual on e46 m3. Smg 3 is a 7 speed on the e60/e63 cars not a 6 speed, so it’s not something you can just remove the hydraulic system on and have a manual car. Needs a full trans swap.

So I'm probably a bit naive and oversimplifying things but, would that X6 not have run ok if you swapped the ECU out for the right one for that (non M) motor? Not that it really matters now but, why didn't whoever put the engine in think to do that in the first place?

How have you never had an M140i? the B58 is incredible, the ZF super reliable, and they are so quick

Would still like to see the manual swap for the M6 come to fruition. Whether that’s with a different transmission or a Kennedy engineering adapter plate.

I've been there before. I think I would have burried the Outback XT I bought about a decade ago if I could have. It's long gone, but the memories remain.

@Hoovies Garage you said that you would never burry another car again! this was on the last video when you dug out the last car. Also peopel can call the cops on you and get fine for this kind of stunts, its consider ilegal dispose with eviromental consequences, you disposed it with oils and other harmfull chemicals on the ground, so yea... hope that you dont find some unemployed karen that thinks its her bussiness to call the cops on you, PS: dont matter if its your private property its not registered as landfield ;)

The X6 and its Mercedes look-alike were stupid cars when brand new. Enormous, heavy, with not much room inside, these pigs were stupid, and made for the market in China.

Somehow it would have been interesting to see what would have happened, had you built your garage on the grave of a BMW. Would it have come back to haunt it?

Hoovie, you are one incredibly entertaining dude. I’m sure someone has posed this to you before but I figure it can’t hurt for me to try. Next time you plan to buy a BMW or some other car that is going to cause you heartache, how about you buy me a fun car for say $5000 so I can have something cool. You’ll end up saving big money and avoid frustration. I’d take a Kei Little Truck. A high mileage 350z. A Celica. Something fun and reliable so I don’t get the frustration either. What do ya say?! I’d probably pass out. Keep up the great content. One of my favorite KZbin video series.

Happy that the 645 doesn't get sacrificied. Could probably still be a car that could earn hoovie some money too since its in good shape. Though I'd probably want to strip the X6M's interior and sell it being that its a nice interior spec that looks quite fresh. Then bury it. Have the satisfaction, and have some change to burn with the parts being enough to pay for labor.
