I worked for Ferrari in Las Vegas when the first two US based media models of the 599 came into our shop. They needed them in town for some promo photo shoots, and they came somewhat incomplete. We had to stick badging and a few other trim pieces on them when they arrived. After a basic PDI, I needed to run it down to our contracted gas station to fill it up for the media team. Man, that car really was something special. In the 430 and 612 era, it was a very sharp car that drove extremely well. I always had a soft spot for that model after that, especially after seeing the media pics hanging in the dealership knowing that I stuck the "Pininfarina" badge on the side myself, lol.

Honestly, I'd say a 599 with a manual conversion is going to be worth, erm, whatever you paid for the car plus the cost of the manual conversion. Point being, as long as the conversions are available nobody is going to pay a premium for a car that's already had the work done when they can pay to get it done themselves. I guess the best case would be for AMG to stop doing the conversions, which WOULD create a market for cars that'd already had the work done.
@herrbrahms2 жыл бұрын
Sure, but getting the car converted is a hassle, requires driving or shipping the car to Texas, and comes with inherent risk. For something like this, most people would prefer to buy it having already been professionally done rather than having to source the job themselves.
@SkodaYetiFan2 жыл бұрын
@@herrbrahms But there is no guarantee am already converted car won't have issues. I'd say buying one of these hackjob garage built cars is arguably more of a hassle than maintaining the stock automatic transmission.
@mikestanley44572 жыл бұрын
Definitely a premium for them. They don’t have the shop space to do a ton of these and it takes them a long time. Add on the costs to get it to and from Texas and it definitely adds a premium
@SiCrewe2 жыл бұрын
@@herrbrahms Like I said, the value will probably reflect the cost of the conversion - including the expense of shipping etc. The way Hoovie was talking, though, it was like he's hoping a converted 599 will be valued somewhere between factory auto's and manuals. Gotta say, if I had the cash I'd DEFINITELY get the conversion done. AMG don't produce junk so the conversion isn't likely to cause problems and de-value the car. Also, there's a good chance AMG won't be doing these conversions forever and THEN the value of a converted car is likely to climb near that of a factory manual.
@DavidColex2 жыл бұрын
@@SiCrewe You are quite right, I won't expect manual conversions to be available for a "reasonable price" for anything more than 7-10 years. Cars like these will become within 20 years a collectors item to be enjoyed sparingly on paid closed roads or race tracks. They will become what horses have become after the advent of the car, so in that context of occasional driving enjoyment the 599 or any similar sporty vehicle will be more desirable as a manual, at least in the vast majority of drivers. Moral of the story: convert your old 'rrari to a manual as soon as possible.

@WareWolf8012 жыл бұрын
@@john91z It comes from driving one. Like the horse in the logo, they have a spirit. They connect the driver to the road & give an experience along the journey. Sounds dumb, but it's actually true. BMW E30, E36, E46 & many M cars, Hellcat, Track Hawk, Jaguar XJR, Bentley's, Aston Martin's, Lamborghini's, Tesla Plaid, Corvette ZR-1's, Camaro ZL-1's, 911 turbo, Porsche SUV's, and so many other cars put their driver into a "feeling" as they use the car. Until you drive one you don't (and can't really) get it. When you drive one, you begin to pick up on it & then before you know it, it all begins to makes sense. For some it's wicked fast, extreme handling, or a Grand Touring experience. For others it's the waves and honks you get while driving it. Still others its the wild repairs and costly dues which you will pay. Being able to drop the top, and cruise around while listening to the song the engine makes when you take off; is your siren-song. When you have that experience, even as a passenger; it makes you accept some frequent & insane repair, maintenance, and even operating costs. $1500 in tires alone just as an example (that only covers one or two cars from my list above) as an annual maintenance issue. Is it a luxury item? Of course.

In my days as an agency driver, I regularly worked at HR Owen Sports Cars here in the UK. I got to take a few Ferraris of that era to and from the customers, including a handful of 599. I'd say I only like the exterior 80%. I still find the interior fussy looking, particularly the dashboard, despite the great smelling leather. With that said, the fact that is can seriously haul ass, yet be a comfortable daily driver the rest of the time makes it quite special. I quickly developed a soft spot for it. It's not something I would buy if I had the money, but the 599 is still one of my favourite cars I have driven (which is a lot). The colour of Hoovie's car is very similar to a BMW 5 series I delivered back to a customer one day. The owner commented to me how gorgeous it looked and how much they loved this "unique" colour. Before driving off with the car, everyone at the dealership was commenting how ugly they thought it looked, and who in their right mind would pick such a disgusting colour. They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Unfortunately, I didn't have a bag to put over my head while driving it.

I had a friend that needed his 599 that he had driven to St. Louis back home to get prepped and ready for shipping out for his European tour a group of them were doing. He had to make an emergency trip to California and the car was dropped at a dealer to hold for him. He calls me up and says, “You are literally the only person I trust to bring that thing back. There are no trucks available to get it back to CT in time. I’ll get you a flight and a ride to the dealer where the car is. Will you PLEASE get that thing back home?? PLEASE!!!???” Well, shortly after calling him a total dork for thinking he, as a truly great long time friend, thought had to say please, I was on a plane to St. Louis. I grabbed the car the following morning with a full tank of gas and headed north to Connecticut. That car was an absolutely perfect balance of comfortable road manners and roaring badass all the way home and never gave even a remote impression that I was going to have any problems at all. I totally understood why he drove that car on long trips so often instead of just flying. The trip was an experience, not a boring drive all the way. I’ve seen quite a few 599 with a lot of miles on the clock and I absolutely get it. You can’t help but want to drive it all the time. The experience is just so fulfilling. 👍🏻😎👍🏻

Something that's been bugging me for years, what's with the huge rug in the garage? To prevent all the tire squeaks and marks maneuvering in the garage?

Awesome addition. You've really stepped up your game over the past couple of years. Garage question. Do you have a lot of drips coming from the cars on the upper rack landing on the lower cars? I'm not sure I'd trust that M5 not to leak on your 355.
@nodsib2 жыл бұрын
Fortunately his lifts are solid across the whole bottom of the cars, so any drip would stay up there, or maybe collect and drop off a corner onto the garage floor if it was a big leak

"$50,000 in service records over the last 3 years." I can't think of a better case to NEVER buy a Ferrari, no matter how big your bank account. I understand Enzo said when you buy a Ferrari you are buying an engine, we throw in the car for free, but for the price of the damn things I'd expect them to be the best, most reliable engines on earth.
@saratc6602 жыл бұрын
I think down the line the definition of “best” shifted from reliable to technologically advanced, making simple reliable engines obsolete and new technologically advanced engines best. Hoovie mentioned this about the 575 quickly being outdated for this reason

I actually came into money recently. And have been looking at dream cars. And for this exact reason I won't buy a Ferrari or Lamborghini (least other then a Hurrican) Ed has to drop 90k to pull the motor from his Murci to MAINTENANCE it. Nope....

I've been an avid viewer of yours for several years Tyler and I must admit to being concerned at the change in the value of your content in the past year or so. Although it is lovely to get a view and a (vicarious) ride in a car I will never be able to afford to buy, let alone pay the maintenance costs on, I am increasingly finding there is very little in your purchases that I can relate to any more. Divulging how much "cheaper" a vehicle is because of its milage etc and then dropping figures like a purchase price of $US130k just cannot and does not compare to the markets us average blokes revolve in - or what you used to be into dealing in either. Similarly, modifying the Ferrari with a manual gearbox, you mention the figure of $40k like it's a drop in the bucket and a no brainer. You said you're not into cars as investments, but I suggest you go back through your catalogue and view a few past episodes where you mention this exact thing as the reason you went through with the deal. The dual Lamborghini purchase was one of the first I recall it being said....and its been used often since. Do you remember that $40k is about the cost of a top-end brand new mid-to-large vehicle - even up as far as a top end Audi A3? Most of us consider dropping 40 large on a vehicle to be a significant spend. Similarly, some other vehicles that the Wizard has worked on have had some tremendous bills - most of which a reasonable 5-10 year old family car could be purchased with. I'm glad you can afford it - it is just hard to relate to. I am not jealous of your lifestyle and these are not sour grapes I am squeezing. I am truly impressed in the manner in which you have managed to set yourself up - pretty much for life - at such a young age and all credit to you for doing so. I love the looks of the beasties you have and hope you continue to be able to purchase these high-end vehicles. However, sounding grateful to your viewers in one sentence and then waxing lyrical about the beauty and exquisite finish of your newest toy in the next, just don't jibe in my opinion. These types of vehicles are not able to be purchased by the masses, whereas what you were videoing several years ago, they did. I understand that as the channel grew, so did your ability to engage your passion for more exotic vehicles. This is perfectly understandable, but at what cost to the channel when these expensive trinkets are all that we see? The channel's focus appears to have changed and it seems to be more about the money than the car and its life in your hands nowadays. I'll continue to watch in hope your focus returns more toward to your humble beginnings and I do hope you understand that I'm not being nasty, but trying to point you back toward what drew me to the channel in the first place - your sense of humour, your love of hoopties and the wheeling and dealing within that end of the market. If you choose to stay in the price and exotic segment you are in currently, well, I suppose the season is over and I will move on. All the best.

I would agree, its great seeing them grow, but when they get big and rich, they lose the essence of what,hat made them fun in the first place. I can think of a couple of channels like that.

yea I agree, he's like it's only 130k, I'm like damn. Even with the Bentley bentayga he bought, he said the cheapest and it's still in nice shape around 100k. That's like me saying, look I got this cheap lamborghini hurcan for only "160k"

I love your videos and I am a long time subscriber but Ferrari parts and maintenance prices are simply ridiculous. There is no way on earth they can justify their prices for components, especially as they are not particularly well built… It’s a blatant rip off!
@throwback198412 жыл бұрын
yeah how does a 2010s car with 30k on it have AC problems... sticking switches... and then the ferrari fanboys go buy replacement switches for $$$ which will just have the same problem. A fool and their money are easily parted. Then again, as long as you dont think of Ferrari as a car company, but rather as a racing team which hustles stupid rich people so they can go have fun on the track, its a lot easier to swallow. Italian Robin Hood "We rob from the rich... so we can race at the weekend"
@MikeKayK2 жыл бұрын
Ferrari is a business. The parts costs what most of their customers can easily afford. They'd be stupid to make them cheaper and lose money just so they aren't called a "rip off" by us peasants who will likely never own one anyway.

When you want to go fast reliably with a brand name like Ferrari you pay the price. Remember this isn't a Kia putting about at 3500 rpm add 5000 rpm and 3 times the cylinders and you get an idea why it's so much money to maintain.
