My father used to have one of those when they were new. I remember loving the small gadgets and quirks. I was around ten then but from my fathers opinions it was a decent car that only broke on him once in three years of ownership. His opinion on is really positive since he had a major car crash in it - with few rollovers. Police said then that driving a high end car saved his life. That story gave me and idea to have one as one of my first cars since it's pretty cheap to purchase in my country. Even though it my be hated it has a pretty important place in my family

I got a used 04 E66 from the local town attorney who took care of it. I've had it for years and yes its expensive to repair. However I find that videos on KZbin and forums help me and my brother fix it ourselves. We've replaced just about all the gaskets, the worse being the valve cover gaskets. This engine is scary and picky, everything seems like it has to be just perfect for it to run smooth. I've grown to like the style and appreciate the car; at this point I've invested so much money in it I've got to keep it. Don't forget this car is safe and I'd prefer to have my kids in this car driving through Atlanta, GA then something else. I have had drama with the electronics...was the battery connector & power control module for me. Junk yards typically have the best deals on parts. Loved the Hoovie review, honest about the car. Thanks Hoovie for the awesome review, love your channel. #BrokeFatherFromNorthEastGeorgia

My favorite part about your channel is how you save these cars from just wasting away or being totaled out. I was still fairly young when this 7 series was unveiled and I remember the criticism of the styling and idrive system. Regardless, I admire how you have braved the dark waters of buying, repairing, and driving an "older" German automobile. My 2005 911 C2S was the last year of the dreaded IMS bearing engine, but I have not had any problems with it...yet. Regular oil changes and a need for speed seem to keep the engine healthy and singing. It's good to see another brave soul keeping these legends alive. Love the channel.

I think you went the wrong direction here. Instead of trying to tone down the hideousness, you should've embraced it: paint it lime green, get one of those giant rear spoilers that occasionally clip low-flying aircraft, and of course get an amp that puts Spinal Tap to shame without upgrading any of the speakers. Then throw on some random stickers, disconnect the turn signals, and permanently bypass the traction control and you've got the perfect BMW.

This video was sooo on point about the repairs. I bought my 2006 750Li with “major” issues and a bunch of small issues. Had the major issue fixed with $12.50 with a CCV valve replacement. It was ripped and was taking in too much air causing misfires and stalling. Had the alternator replaced for about $300 for the rest of the many electrical problems. Added $10 Liqui Moly additive to fix with the valve seals. Now it doesn’t leak or burn oil anymore. According to BMW forums, many people have done this and it’s an easy way to fix this issue for years. That’s about it. Got the car for dirt cheap because many people don’t know how to fix simple problems like this. This is also my first BMW and wow.. it’s fucking smooth as eggs and amazingly comfortable. Only downside is gas mileage could be costly but I would rather pay an extra $500 of gas per year than lose $1000+ in depreciation a year on a newer Honda. Depreciation on this 7 Series is now minimal at this point in time. I would recommend the 7 Series to most guys that can get their hands a little dirty.

@privatelisting3667 жыл бұрын
It is because it replaced the E38 7-Series. The one from the first Transporter movie and the James Bond film. The face lift E38 was seen as a work of art whereas the 2002 Bangle designed 7 was seen as sacrilege, akin to spray painting over the Mona Lisa with street gang tags. The same happened when the 2001 LS430 Lexus came out. Owners demanded their 2000 LS400s back from dealerships, it was that poorly received. 2001 7s were snapped up by enthusiasts who saw what the 2002 was going to look like and hastened in the rise of Audi as the German brand for up and comers. BMW is no longer the car to have if you are young and wealthy in America. Audi and Tesla hold that title.

Had one of these for 12 years, and never really had a serious issue with it. Once a car ran into me from behind, so following that rear bumber swapped to Hamann design and hookep up Supersprint exhoust with cat so it had a deep groovy hum. Not loud, just deeply resonant enough to feel it in your chest. I mustve been blessed tho... The scariest 'transmission failure' error message hit me once on the autobahn...pulled over, hit the sos button and within an hour had a service guy come out, hook up a laptop, bypassed the message and it was good to go (but did have to take it to proper service soon)! The actual problem was relatively cheap, few hundred euros for some electric compononet, dont remember which. Other issues started coming out with age nearing 10 years, which was leaky coolant tube, and a water pump fault at one point. I do admit by the 12th year oil started to leak and an overhead gasket change became imminent. Car was also reaching 250k km (Kinda daily driver, but mostly for long autobahn trips). The guy who wanted to buy this car for spare parts, ended up driving this as the daily one, and used his own as the spare donor from there on xD But hey, I do know its a rare thing, but this one piece I had was truly a well built German Maschine. (Wouldnt say the same about the 2004 X5 tho when it came to long term reliability, which was the other daily daily driver)

I am an independent car dealer, and like you for some reason I find myself like a deer in headlights buying older high end odd cars that are difficult to work on and get parts for, and usually get stuck with. {YEAH ITS A PROBLEM I SHOULD PROBABLY SEEK THERAPY ABOUT} My wife said she is going to have an intervention for me with any and all mechanics within range, however, I ran across this video because I too just bought this same car and was trying to see what issuses to look out for as well as try and figure out how to operate all the bells and whistles. 2007 garage kept with only 87k miles and I have grown to love it. I know I need to move it before anything goes south on it and I have to take a second mortgage to repair, but it is cool to own and drive a car that someone else paid at one time $75k for penny's on the dollar. I bought mine as is at an auction and I was shocked, everything works on the car and runs and drives amazing. Maybe my luck is changing??? One good thing about these is that usually someone who buys them new for that price would probably keep it serviced at the dealer. Thanks for the videos and for the suggestions on upgrades.

There's no doubt that Hoovie has some money, but I'm sure a lot of these car expenses get put on credit cards. His channel has 135k subs as of now so that probably helps pay for some of this stuff too.

Fun fact, the windows and sunroof opening AND closing from the key are old... Like E32 old. Most BMW from the 90s have this feature.

I had a friend who had a 2003 740i for a while. Got rid of it because of the maintenance cost. I still love BMW they are the ultimate driving machine.

Glad I came across your videos. I purchased my first ever 2007 750LI two weeks ago from an auction. I have $3250 and with fees and shipping just ver $4000. The first thing I noticed is the rear driver side wheel had a small hairline fracture its a 21inch wheel and low profile tire. I was able to find a local wheel repair shop and cost me $140. Then the hood latch stopped working the very next day I installed the wheel. I tried my best to open the hood with no luck. My only option is to take it to a local shop and it's been at the shop going on the 3rd day. The head mechanic didn't even call me and I assume he is having a hell of a time opening the hod and fixing the latch. I am even scared to think about repair costs. One other issue I noticed is that the coolant was low and I was not able to fill it because the hood wasn't opening. I hope its a not a blown head gasket. The good thing is there were no leaks of any kind and no smoke and it ran pretty strong and responsive. I actually was impressed with the performance aspect even though I only drove it around the block. Any idea what the hood latch and cables would cost to repair? I will keep you posted and update you. Aside from these bad issues, the car is black and charcoal interior. The interior is in above average condition. the only problem is the rear window Curtin is missing but the arms go up and down. Also on side Curtin does not close or open. But other than that everything else is in good working order. No electrical issues. The exterior is in above average factory paint is clean and shines like new. Very small scuffs and absolutely no rust. Thanks for sharing your vids.

Hoovie, you have to get this thing coded. There's so much you can do with these cars with simple programming changes, including closing the windows with the fob as well. Source: 2 E39's, and an E66 in my driveway.

The engine is very performance oriented. The N62 4.4 liter was the first motor in the world and only BMW engine to feature a continuously variable intake manifold. Furthermore the engine has practically instant response due to the valvetronic system, with the only thing holding these engines back in terms of response being the 6hp transmission. Finally, that motor is nearly indestructible, with the only major engine problems being seal related, i.e. alternator, coolant pipe, valve stems.

I have a question for you - I also have a BMW (2002 540i) that seems to constantly have something broken. You mention you don't have much luck with BMW. But, you added this 740 and other German cars to your "portfolio" of awesomeness. Of all the German cars you have owned, which one(s) would you buy again? Which ones have great driving dynamics, reliability, and a strong depreciation curve? I'm looking for my next well used and cheap German sport sedan, and I'm hoping my next one will have more Japanese reliability without losing the German driving dynamics. Thank you! love the channel!!!
