That flattie ring failure was because of the old rebuild. The engine builder was up to one of two things. Either he did not end gap one ring set on one piston (did 7 of 8), or he was intentionally fitting tight gaps on all of them to get better mileage and reduce oil consumption ... Better hope for the first ... You romped on it with higher compression and more fuel delivery and that raised the combustion temp. The ring grew closed, got to tight, stuck, and broke. The tell tale was the piece of the piston ring land left over. To bad Wizard did not pop the rest while the motor was apart to check them all ... Could happen again ... Oh, and my favorite Hooptie will be that 1960's Jet Boat when you rescue it : D

Hard accelerations won't hurt a flathead V8 when it is correct. They are tougher than a SBC

That was going to break no matter what. You should be able to occasionally give an engine the beans and not have it break.

What's the point of hot rodding (dual carbs, high compression heads) the motor if you don't want to feel it? I think the higher compression did the ring in so there may be more.

I guess your engine will have a lot of carbon build-up if you never rev it as in a hard acceleration.

@@mistersomaru I agree but finely people are coming around to them and are putting the money into them. Jay Leno & Harry Metcalf from Harry’s garage both own Espada’s. Also Tyrrells classic workshop is worth watching as he restores the more unusual Lamborghini’s plus he’s very knowledgeable.
