The only professional way to do this is to start with wet sanding 320ish grit and work down to 800-1000 before applying 2K clear. Then follow up with a 2000ish grit polish on the clear and apply other compound if necessary.
@Turboy653 жыл бұрын
@@MrCarGuy You'll find that if you wet sand to a much coarser grit level and then clearcoat the lenses, the clearcoat really has something to grab onto and lasts a LOT longer. Been there, done that. Sand to 2000, the clearcoat peels off in a year or two. Sand to 600, clearcoat lasts...five years and counting. Both ways, the lenses stay absolutely clear.

My daily is 341 000 miles (548 000km) audi a8l. The D3 generation A8 is a fine motor and very reliable and the aluminium body is great aluminium (hi ford), it never corrodes even in salty canada. It's not as silent inside as a rolls royce but still quieter than 90% of cars. And rolls royce have bmw powerplant so good luck keeping that on the road

You did mention @Hoovie, that this was never meant to be concourse quality restoration. But I find some very rough edges left behind that could easily have been addressed in this otherwise detailed & painstaking job just by a little more effort but would have made the car sooo much better. Case in point, the C pillar where it meets the trunk lines has still got dings on it. I can see cracked rubbers all over... a bit of plastic polish to the headlights will really make the car look so much younger

I like the two-tone with the dark red. This particular project produced one hell of a nice car for under $45,000. There really is no substitute for a full-on luxury sedan; it's a very special experience to drive one. If you can stomach averaging several thousand dollars per year in maintenance and repairs (like ANY exotic car), this thing would be a treat. Along with the vast difference in the driving experience, compare total cost of ownership (including interest and depreciation), over say five years, with that of a $45k new vehicle. See which one wins.
