When I started with my revolver, I used to get one of the big targets and bring a big red magic marker to the range. I'd turn the target around to face away from me and put eight big red spots on the back of the target. I'd then put six shots into each spot with a box of fifty rounds. I'd just shoot the last two shots into a random empty space on the target. People probably thought that I looked stupid, but I felt that I was learning to improve my accuracy and see the size of each group. At this point, I use snap caps more than anything else.

Or if you have the ability to draw from a holster at the range, I like to spend my first 20 rounds by doing ten reps of draw; fire one shot; slide lock reload; fire one shot. Then spend my next 20 rounds doing two shot exercises; ten reps of draw and fire two shots. Then spend my next ten rounds with slow fire at the max distance you feel comfortable with. (Concentrate on accuracy, trigger control, and sight alignment.) All targets are a 3x5 note card on a cardboard backing. Keep extra note cards and brown tape handy to paste up your holes. And not only use a timer, but always record your average times and compare how your improving over time. Whenever your numbers start to plateau and stop improving then it's time to push your targets back and go for greater distances. I think using a timer makes you slow down in between strings of fire and makes you think about what your doing right vs. what your doing wrong.

I agree wholeheartedly, no reason to be firing long strings it can actually build horrible habits.

I will print out free bullseye targets from Alien Gear Holsters, and only put 5 rounds on target for each target. I limit it to five rounds and multiply by 2. Great video, the first drill is IMO the best for real world. For about 40 years I've been shooting for handgun and iron sighted rifles out to 200 yards 9" paper plates. I get then on sale in packs of 500 for a few bucks. Hold one center to your nose and you'll get the reason. The center of the plate is around 5". In this environment we've switched training and ammunition to take advantage of the weaknesses in body armor and thevtraining of those who wear it.
