Do you agree or disagree that hope is a measurement of future regrets? Why?

I don't agree. Hope is the drive one needs in order to set things into place. I have always had the hope but never the means to have my life a certain way until recently. Now that I've come into the means, I've held on to the drive and my vision has become refined because of hope. It'd be more accurate to say that hope by itself is not enough, but it is better to have hope than hopelessness. Hopelessness leads to nothing except depression.

I agree 100% but does anyone else get "angry guy" vibes from Kapil Gupta? Lol 🤣

Defining hope is what's needed. Hope and false hope are 2 different things. Hope has motivation. False hope is more of the wishful thinking. Hoping you do well on a test you have study for the past several days or weeks is different than hoping you win the lottery out of desperation

Don’t confuse hope with expectation. Expectation leads to disappointment. Hope reveals a desire for a better life.

I think “hope” has a language problem similar to “love”.

Hecato says, “cease to hope and you will cease to fear.” … The primary cause of both these ills is that instead of adapting ourselves to present circumstances we send out thoughts too far ahead. -Seneca, Moral Letters, 5.7b-8 Hope is generally regarded as good. Fear is generally regarded as bad. To a Stoic like Hecato (known as Hecato of Rhodes), they are the same-both are projections into the future about things we do not control. Both are the enemy of this present moment that you are actually in. Both mean you’re living a life in opposition to amor fati. It’s not about overcoming our fears but understanding that both hope and fear contain a dangerous amount of want and worry in them. And, sadly, the want is what causes the worry.

“Hope being tied to the expectation that I had…” is an intriguing thought. A friend mentioned having hope (about paying debt) I reminded them that hope alone does nothing. You put your plan into action and then keep plugging away. Hope for them was that their circumstances would change. Hope was light in the darkness of their temporary despair. Hope to me is believing a more positive outcome is possible while letting go of an absolute outcome.

Hope in itself with no actions may not have the desired result. Yet, holding onto hope when life is very challenging and painful for an extended period of time may be enough to keep one going.

I have always felt the word "hope" was not a very convincing word. I have always tried not using the word. Also, I felt bad when I would correct people who used the word. I say hope is a word for those with little faith. People just get quiet.

There is a saying in the military, “Hope is not a plan”. Hope can be another word for motivation, but by itself is a stationary engine.

I completely disagree. Hope has gotten me through so many difficult, even devastating events in my life. Knowing that if I hang on, things will improve, and intense pain will become at least more manageable, if not heal altogether. It is the people who do not hope, who cannot see beyond the present moment who become hopeless and often to tragic ends. KEEP HOPE ALIVE!!!!!

The contente okay, buddhism okay but the way it is exposed just doesn't match my way of wanting to receive a message. Maybe feeling too much harshnesh, brutality in the teaching. Thus the core of the message doesn't sound truthful nor inviting. Equanimity is a passage to nirvana, not à desolate state. Before onexreacts to external situations and inner emotions. With equanimity, effective action may be undertaken. But if karma and Destiny , Providence and serendipity are, our hopeful action at least is joyful, undertaken with a smile. ('Cause otherwise no reason to undertake anything. ) ;)) In fact I love the smiles of Thich Nath Hanh, to me here it lacks of flowerwatering I guess.

Yes, this man comes off as brutally honest instead of compassionate & understanding. He has some wisdom no doubt but mixed with lots of anger.

Please guys, I love you’re channel but Gupta is not in alignment with minimalism. He’s such a downer, it takes away from your positivity and good work. I’m puzzled that you include him here. No, I did not enjoy.

“Downer” you say. It’s not about him it’s about you. Perhaps you haven’t been really down in your life or lost everything. Then you would understand how important it is for a human to listen to someone who is talking seriously and sincere. He is not for your enjoyment or entertainment.
