The comment about developers modeling guns after airsoft guns is exactly correct. In COD4 and MW2 the M4 magazines are airsoft magazines, with no bullets in them, but are perfectly modeled mid-caps. The M4 is a JG M4 S-System - an airsoft gun. I've been to the Ubisoft Red Storm studio, where all the gun props were airsoft with knockoff $80 "ACOGs" and other NCstar red dots. I mean, to be fair, unless you're going for tarkov-level realism, you really don't need exact measurements of an ACOG's 3D model for a 3rd person shooter. Luckily these days, with the need for higher fidelity models, usually devs will now develop their models based on actual firearms, IE: MW2019. But it is still fun to spot old airsoft JG M4 S-Systems in EVERY videogame from 2004-2008.

This is correct. @@neempata3274 Armson is another optics company that famously made the OEG that predates red dots. They still produce it along with their own ACOG style optic I've been wanting to try out on a carry handle mount (its around ~700 bucks so I've been putting it on the backburner). I also have an A.R.M.S. SIR handguard which they still sell variants of for truly obscene prices. Its iconic for its use in the early GWOT era as well as being in many videogames and movies (COD MW2 being the biggest one) but its really kinda bad. Not only is it unnecessarily heavy, but the lower half and removable rail sections are made of a flimsy polymer. If you mount a vertical foregrip on it, it'll flex with every shot. Another optic I just remembered is the Lucid HD7. It's an extremely heavy red dot that has an overbuilt housing/body made to resemble an ACOG for some reason, it has multiple reticles like the Ultrashot, and even has a setting where you can use an ambient light sensor to change reticle brightness. The objective lens is fairly small, strong blue tint, and the view is cluttered by the large housing. Very silly red dot still being sold today even though the price is >300 bucks usually. There is also the russian PYCAK (or 'Rabbit') optics. Supposedly they were still being made fairly recently. I have one and they're hilarious. You literally zero the optic by undoing a screw on the objective lens and moving it. For some reason the battery life seems to be incredibly long as well, I have accidentally left it on for months.

The narrow frame on the Pan AV makes it the go-to red dot sights in videogames. Unfortunately we haven't quite figured out how to render a solid object out of focus, so the narrow frame comes in as an advantage when aiming down the sight.

From the hear-say I see on the various forums they're held up pretty well. It's just they eat a lot of space on the rail compared to more recent offerings.
@solwindp78-12 жыл бұрын
There are apparently quite a few different versions of the RX01, so your mileage may vary. I briefly owned the RX01-NSN 4 MOA dot version, tritium had long since died. I would not recommend buying any of them now considering that the tritium is dead on most of the used ones at this point (They did sell them until fucking 2020 according to the Trijicon website though so there might be some new ones around? Who was buying them I wonder). Without the tritium the dot is extremely dim and almost completely unusable. The tint is very strong, probably as bad as the sightmark in this video, and there is some glow/distortion around the edges of the objective lens. Additionally, even when they were new, these optics had a problem with being washed out by sunlight or flashlights which is why the polarizing filter (that screw-in extension up front) was added. The polarizing filter is also your only way to adjust brightness on the fly - you can rotate it like a flashlight bezel to change the amount of light that passes through - but keep in mind this is literally just a pair of adjustable sunglasses, so you are dimming your sight picture as well. I have seen them on the used market and the prices they command are really kinda silly. Many of them sell for far more than Comp M2/ML2s do and they're definitely significantly worse. If you have to get one at all, I would only go for the iconic triangle reticle.

@@solwindp78-1 Very awesome input! I wonder of Trijicon can replace the tritium in those optics like they do with older ACOGs. It's surprising to me that they sold them until 2020 lol **EDIT** Apparently re-lamp services are not covered by Trijicon, so if you get one and the tritium is gone then you're pretty SOL unless you know a guy who re-lamps those optics
@solwindp78-12 жыл бұрын
@Random Pickle I don't know if Trijicon actually offers that service for anything other than ACOGs, but keep in mind they usually charge anywhere from 250-550 dollars to recharge an ACOG depending on how old it is/which model. Sometimes they will just do a recharge, other times they will need to replace all the internals, its up to them really. Also Trijicon will check the serial number to see if it was USGI issued, as they only service those through the military. So if your optic walked off from an arms room somewhere (I know the RX01-NSN was part of the SOPMOD kit, although it was commercially offered as well) they won't work on it.

Man I remember researching this thing a while ago, although the earliest design of this red dot I was able to find was the ADCO solo sight.

These sight are great for long lens photography, especially if you want to photo wild bird. They are also used on telescopes as red dot finders - useful for aligning go-to scopes.

Nikon and Olympus now have dedicated cold-shoe mounted dot sights using the same principle. I have the older Olympus version that only comes with one sight picture and has an eye-searing brightness even at the lowest setting.

Finally, I know what's the OG version of that airsoft red dot sight commonly found in FPS games for some reason. Since it's really overused yet outdated, those games should try featuring other modern red dot sights such as the SIG Romeo 5, Aimpoint T-2/Acro, etc., cause they look really modern compared to this trash one. Edit: I though the original model was the Barska Electro because I once read on the Metro Wiki that it was the basis for the red dot sight used in Metro: Last Light.

I always liked this optic in games, least obstruction of your fov. I never considered something like this to use in real life because it looks, by design, hopelessly unreliable/fragile. If an optic aint bomb proof, it doesnt belong on a fighting rifle in my opinion. Acog is still the king of combat optics in my opinion.
@my9thaccount1402 жыл бұрын
Still saving up for one. The fact that it’s a battle tested sight with illumination that doesn’t use batteries is enough to sell it. Holy hell they’re expensive, but hey if you’re gonna spend some ridiculous money on something spend it on the thing that helps you hit what you’re aiming at.
@TheOneWayDown2 жыл бұрын
Well, acog for a magnified optic, then an aimpoint pro or eotech for 1x seem to be the ones that are not only bomb proof, they're almost Marine proof
@g00gleisgayerthanaids562 жыл бұрын
@@my9thaccount140 theyre really not that expensive all things considered. Leupold has some $5,000 optics thatll make you scratch your head going, "but why?" I have a Sightmark version of this red dot on my home defense shotgun. I like the circle dot reticle for it in that application. At some point I’ll replace it with a smaller Truglo Tru-Tec style red dot. At the end of the day, this style of red dot is basically exclusively a basic rimfire optic.

You can (or could) still find one of the knockoffs in Tarkov- the Walther MRS. Tarkov also has, bizarrely enough, NCStar shit and freaking UTG optics and gear. Literal airsoft tier stuff. But then again Tarkov is about on par with Ubisoft "tactical" games nowadays so I guess it's to be expected.

It's people who are too emotionally invested in inanimate objects that think whatever they bought is inherently the best. Best you can do is give objective reasoning such as battery life, durability, etc and hope they listen. A lot of people think optics that cost $40 are "just as good."

Maybe the nostalgia will give you +1 stamina recovery. Alsooo i dont think there are 4 emitters, i believe there is 1 & those are just different shaped holes. A dot sight works the same as holding your phone while looking out a window at night except the window is coated to reflect more visibly as the background(point of aim) will be well lit.
