I personally believe the Welterweight is currently the best division. In terms of star fighters, yes the lightweight is better. Islam, Oliveira, Poirier, Holloway, Gaethje, Chandler and Pimblett are great names, but some of these guys have a name bigger than their ability. Out of those 5, only Oliveira would make sense as a title challenger for Islam- but even then it wouldn't make sense to do a Makhachev Oliveira 2 when Islam destroyed Charles in their first match. Holloway, Gaethje and Chandler have not fought Islam yet- and yet it would make absolutely no sense for them to get a title shot right now. When Poirier got his opportunity (despite having a great fight) it was slightly undeserving as it should have been Gaethje but he brutally lost to Holloway for the BMF. Pimblett is the only up and comer and in the rankings, and to some extent Moicano, but they are both a couple of fights away from a title shot. Now you look at the Welterweight- you have a dominant champion like Belal who does not get enough credit for the fighters he beat on his way to become Champion. You have 2 former Champions in Usman and Leon who have been impressive- Usman had been one of the most dominant welterweights ever and Leon had not lost in 9 years until losing to Belal. You also have someone like Colby Covington- who like him or hate him is a very good trash talker and is a bit like Poirier, Gaethje or Chandler- who get high quality fights not always deserving them. And you look and the up and comers (if you can call them that as most of them are already established in the rankings)- Shavkat- undefeated, has finished all his opponents besides Garry who he fought while being injured. Garry himself- who looked really good against Shavkat and may still get a title shot after a win or 2. JDM- hasn't lost in the UFC, number 4 in the rankings. Sean Brady- 17 wins, 1 loss (to the current champion), number 5 in the rankings. Joaquin Buckley- 6-0 since moving to welterweight, number 6 in the rankings. All of these 6 guys (besides maybe Garry because he just lost to Shavkat) would be getting a title shot if they were in the lightweight- but because of how stacked the welterweight is they will need to have another fight or 2 to get that opportunity for the belt. Oh yh, besides that you also have undefeated Michael Morales, number 12 in the rankings, 17-0; and newcomer of the year Carlos Prates who has 4 fights in 2024- 4 finishes- not 1 fight getting passed round 2. Finally, we often talk about Islam moving up to welterweight, now I don't think that would be fair to the 6/7 guys that are waiting for a title opportunity, but if he does move up then he would bring his stardom alongside him. And speaking of stardom- UFC's biggest star ever- if Conor McGregor does ever return to the UFC, there is no way he'll be able to make 155- he will have to fight in welterweight too!

I've always fucked heavy with LHW ever since getting into ufc around the time glover became oldhead champ, jamahal hill was cool for a LITTLE bit, walker, pereira, rountree etc.. it's just the best of speed + power. Watching grappling at heavyweight can be a bit draining but 205 has it all, all divisions have ups and down but lightweight certainly is one of the most consistent

My personal reason for why I think lightweight is the best is because Charles Oliveira is my favorite fighter of all time. I got into the UFC because of him and I really like following his career. When he was champ it was hype and I loved it. With the competition being as stiff as it is. Tons of new prospects, drama, entertaining fighting styles etc. it makes it the most fun to be a part of. Especially because the fighters are all big enough to get crazy KOs, but small enough to move quickly and make the actual fights interesting. To me it just seems like the perfect blend of all the divisions. There’s great grapplers, great strikers, great personalities, great rivalries
